Everyone is encouraged to include this special service of honoring our nation as part of your family s Independence Day celebration.
2 Pastor s Writings Where there is no vision, the people perish! As a people of God, we are called to live each day as servants in the service of god. Each day becomes an opportunity for us to reach out and welcome someone new into the family of God. On July 12, 2015, we will be receiving new members into our church family. Everyone is valuable for our mission in this community. Each one of you and your ideas; your gifts of ministry and leadership; your gifts of music, dance and art; your willingness to use your gifts that God has given you to be of service to others. God calls some of us to lead, some to teach, some to preach, some to cook, some to sew, some to sing, some to dance, some to play piano and organ. But most of all, our loving God calls all of us to pray. We are called to offer acts of love and commitment to others. Jesus calls us to serve our neighbor. We wonder why our neighbor is hungry. We ask God to feed the hungry. God calls us to feed our neighbor. We ask God to find homes for the homeless. God calls us to find homes for the homeless. We ask God why there is violence. God calls us to love our neighbor as ourselves. We ask God to care for our children. God calls us to nurture the children. We ask God for peace. God calls us to work for justice and peace. We are called to end the violence. We are called to make God s ways our ways. God loves us and forgives us and Jesus taught us to Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind and body, and then to love our neighbor as ourselves. We are called to love and forgive the same as God loves and forgives us. So here we are, ready to be the people God calls us to be. May God grant us days filled with meaning, times filled with purpose, and the assuring promise that we have been called for such a time as this. Because we have so many new people, you might not know who serves as our trustees and deacons. They serve faithfully in recognizing your goals and dreams. They are diligent and faithful as they accept the positions of leadership for this church family. Our moderator is Mark Robinson; Bob Hallock serves as chairman of the trustees; Tom Henderson, music program; Hank Boomer, legal advice; John Hucks, stewardship; David (Continued on Page 5)

4 In Memory and Honor Dennis was the only child of Glen (Burnie) and Hulda Maki Burnside of McCall. He attended school in McCall, graduating from McCall-Donnelly High School. Following his graduation, the Burnsides moved to Salem, Oregon, for a business opportunity. Dennis then attended the University of Idaho in Moscow to study civil engineering. He entered the U.S. Army in 1962 and attended the U.S. Navy Language School in Monterey, California, to learn Romanian. He then was stationed in Turkey as an intelligence interpreter. He was honorably discharged in October 1965 and took the opportunity to tour Europe. When Dennis returned to the United States, he worked in various sales positions throughout California. He met his devoted life partner, Sherry, while working in the city of Charter Oak. Later the couple moved to Salem to care for his elderly parents. After his parents passed away, Sherry and Dennis moved back to McCall to enjoy the mountains, skiing and wildlife. He loved music (especially the Beat- Dennis Burnside les), attended live concerts of The Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen, and Tina Turner. He also went to theatrical productions whenever the opportunity presented itself. He had a love of art of all kinds. While he was in California, he studied art and history at UC Riverside. He had an active, inquiring mind, always saying that the only thing that counted was what was between one s ears. He had a lot between his ears. Dennis and Sherry became members of McCall Community Congregational United Church of Christ in October Dennis passed away on June 10 at McCall Rehab and Care Center. A service celebrating his life was held at the church on June 18. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Sherry; stepdaughters Kim and Christina; five grandchildren -- Amber, Ashley, Anthony, Brandon and Justin and four great grandchildren -- Finn, Braylee, Brody and Riley. His positive attitude carried him through life to the end. He will be truly missed by all who had the honor of knowing him.
