And also with you. Let us pray. Give us, our Father, a sense of your presence as we gather now for worship. Grant us gratitude as we remember your goodness, penitence as we remember our sins, and joy as we remember your love. Enable us to lift up our hearts in humble prayer and fervent praise, through Jesus Christ, our Lord. who taught us to pray, saying, Our Father, who art in heaven

2 * Affirmation of Faith A Statement of Faith of the United Church of Canada We are not alone, we live in God s world. We believe in God: who has created and is creating, who has come in Jesus, the Word made flesh, to reconcile and make new, who works in us and others by the Spirit. We trust in God. We are called to be the church: to celebrate God s presence, to love and serve others, to seek justice and resist evil, to proclaim Jesus, crucified and risen, our judge and our hope. In life, in death, in life beyond death, God is with us. We are not alone. Thanks be to God. Amen. You forgave the iniquity of your people; you pardoned all their sin. You withdrew all your wrath; you turned from your hot anger. Restore us again, O God of our salvation, and put away your indignation toward us! Will you be angry with us forever? Will you prolong your anger to all generations? Will you not revive us again, that your people may rejoice in you? Show us your steadfast love, O Lord, and grant us your salvation. Pam Johnston Rev. Bill Culpepper Let me hear what God will speak, for the Lord will speak peace to his people, to his faithful, to those who turn to the Lord in their hearts. Surely salvation is at hand for those who fear the Lord, that glory may dwell in our land. Steadfast love and faithfulness will meet; righteousness and peace will kiss each other.

3 Faithfulness will spring up from the ground, and righteousness will look down from the sky. The Lord will give what is good, and our land will yield its increase. Tommy Perkins God of all good gifts, we come before you today with praise in our hearts and thanksgiving on our lips. We thank you for your creation and the wonders of this world our nation our community our work opportunities to learn and serve this church called Mulberry Street United Methodist Church our new bishop in the South Georgia Conference, Lawson Bryan the riches in our lives and the greatest gift of all, given through your Son, our Savior and Redeemer. Knowing that you desire to bless us with all good things, we offer these intercessions: for all that has happened in our world this past week for our country for our nation, our government and the election of a new president for our community, especially for schools, students, teachers, and administrators for the church universal, its mission, and those who minister for the churches of this community for our church and its ministry of the gospel We pray this all in the name of the triune God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, to whom all thanks and praise are due. Amen.

5 Mulberry Street United Methodist Church July 24, 2016 Today s Sermon Once Upon a Time: Bible Stories You Need to Know I ve Had Enough, Lord Today s Scripture 1 Kings 19:1-8 (NIV) 1 Now Ahab told Jezebel everything Elijah had done and how he had killed all the prophets with the sword. 2 So Jezebel sent a messenger to Elijah to say, May the gods deal with me, be it ever so severely, if by this time tomorrow I do not make your life like that of one of them. 3 Elijah was afraid [a] and ran for his life. When he came to Beersheba in Judah, he left his servant there, 4 while he himself went a day s journey into the wilderness. He came to a broom bush, sat down under it and prayed that he might die. I have had enough, LORD, he said. Take my life; I am no better than my ancestors. 5 Then he lay down under the bush and fell asleep. All at once an angel touched him and said, Get up and eat. 6 He looked around, and there by his head was some bread baked over hot coals, and a jar of water. He ate and drank and then lay down again. 7 The angel of the LORD came back a second time and touched him and said, Get up and eat, for the journey is too much for you. 8 So he got up and ate and drank. Strengthened by that food, he traveled forty days and forty nights until he reached Horeb, the mountain of God.
