We have an excellent speaker this month, Vince Scriboni, that will get our chapter up to date on the best ways to manage and mitigate grease waste.. It seems like everyone in the Central Florida chapter is really busy, with many new projects happening. 8 President s Report By Robert Lowell, CPD robertelowell@yahoo.com April has arrived, and with it, very changeable weather, and allergy season! It is the time of year when you can t be sure whether you ll need a jacket or sunscreen, sometimes on the same day! When you add in all of the allergens in the air due to the entire state of Florida being in bloom, it can be challenging to stay healthy. Be sure to take good care of yourself during this time. Our sincere thanks go out to last month s speaker, Andy Faza with Moen. We learned about the latest in shower design and technology, along with new and innovative ways to apply those lessons to the ever-evolving plumbing codes. Everyone who attended the March meeting was awarded on CEU, applicable towards CPD recertification. I just returned from an extended business trip to Corpus Christi, Texas. We were fortunate enough to get hotel accommodations in Port Aransas, right on the Gulf of Mexico. This area is part of the Padre Island/Mustang Island area, and seemed to be a real hot spot for fishing, kite surfing, and windsurfing. During the trip we also visited San Antonio, where we made stops at the Alamo, and the San Antonio Riverwalk. Standing before the Alamo, it is not hard to imagine how terrifying it must have been like to be one of around 200 Texians defending themselves for 13 days against Santa Anna s army in such a small compound. Much respect to the brave souls who put up such a fight. In the last two years, I have included many concise reviews of my business travel in my column, because it has become such a large part of my journey in this vocation. I have been fortunate to visit many places across the country, and see firsthand the differences and similarities of plumbing and fire protection installations. There are certainly many ways to accomplish similar outcomes, some more orthodox than others. Unfortunately, the scope and frequency of this travel has made fulfilling the duties of my elected office a hardship for me, and many of these duties have necessarily been offloaded into the capable hands of the board. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time as President of this chapter, but I will be stepping down following the May elections. I plan to remain as Newsletter Editor, as this is a function I can perform from anywhere, and I want to continue contributing to the success of the chapter. I also plan to participate in future chapter leadership, if and when job responsibilities allow. Participating in chapter leadership is a great way to volunteer in your community. As chapter members, you deserve, and have the benefit of, an active, engaged Board of Directors. Our chapter is one of the strongest in the Society, and we are now up to 102 members as of this writing! To all who have spread the word about the benefits of membership, Thank You very much! Increased membership means we have a greater voice in shaping Society policy, which helps us as an engineering community to influence code development.
