It definitely causes many different emotions, feelings and responses from the various people you speak with. At its core it causes everyone to evaluate their position regarding whatever topic you may be discussing, consolidation of the churches, changes in mass times, losses or gains in terms of attendance at church, etc. Some people like the changes others despise them. No matter which side of the discussion you are on you have a vested interest in the conversation and the eventual outcome. The On Mission process has caused many changes to occur and there will be more to come as the process refines down to its final form. These changes are not just at OLOJ but also at the other churches in our grouping and in the entire Catholic faith in the Diocese of Pittsburgh. I hope this doesn t sound harsh or cold hearted, but we are spiritually involved and invested in the OPV Catholic grouping and not concerned with the other areas. Over the next 2-3 years we will experience more changes, these continuous changes will ultimately form the new Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh. These large scale changes will either enable OLOJ to remain open, vibrant and growing or lead to its closing. Either outcome will cause heartache, anger and frustration for the parishioners of the closing churches and conversely excitement, happiness and relief for the surviving churches. I use the word churches but I really mean the entire congregation of people who attend, support and maintain that church building. Everyone in that congregation has a personal relationship, almost a Family feeling, with their church, fellow parishioners and their Priest(s) that they interact with on a weekly basis. Much of our lives are focused and enriched by these interactions and the people we share them with. That is what makes this process so unsettling and why it creates such deep emotions from everyone involved. We feel at home, comfortable, secure in our parish, the Ministries we serve and with our church families at Mass. Many have put their hearts, souls, and finances into building our Church and no one wants to see their Church close. Unfortunately that decision is not in our hands, it is up to Bishop Zubik or higher. Today at mass Fr. DeWitt spoke about these changes and their impact upon each of us. He said a parishioner told him that change is good. That may be true but I also believe that it depends upon what the change is and in this case - which outcome your church receives. Change forces all of us out of our comfort zone and forces us to grow by undertaking and conquering new challenges, new surroundings and to make this new normal acceptable and livable. If we don t change and adapt we will become stagnate, uninvolved and bitter ultimately leading to more grief and heartache. None of us knows what the outcome of this reorganization will be, but we do know one thing for sure - it will be different and we will need to adapt to it. We need to continue on with our lives and have faith that God will provide for us. It may not be easy but as faith based Catholics we need to accept our new church, church family, mass schedule and all of the other changes that will occur. We will meet new people and make new friends, possibly lose touch with others who may not adapt to the changes and stop attending Mass. Those people may find their peace in another church or religion, everyone has to make their own decisions when it comes to changes. It is a personal journey and one filled with plenty of emotion. If it wasn t then change would be easy. Like you, I will deal with whatever changes are handed down to us and I will stand behind the decisions I make in response to the changes. I just pray that God speaks to me and helps me make the right decisions so that I have no remorse or regrets. Let s all pray for the best and let God s Will be done. God Bless You & Keep You Safe. VIVAT JESUS, Duane Cardamone, Grand Knight MISSSION STATEMENT Our Lady of Joy Parish, Knights of Columbus Council #12219, is a brotherhood of Catholic gentlemen. The Council provides an opportunity for fellowship with men who hold the same beliefs, values and priorities in life and in God. Most of us finished in under 4 hours which is unheard of in a scramble! The winning team was once again Don Stanczak s team which finished 10 under par! Well done Don you guys are getting harder to beat each time you step on the course! Our skins game was a great success especially if you ask Joe Clark and his team! One Eagle on number 9 took all the money in the pool! The folks at Spring Church once again were going beyond our expectations, being that Mother Nature really did a number on 2 or 3 greens! COATS FOR KIDS PROGRAM Our Lady of Joy Knights of Columbus donated 24 new winter coats for elementary students at Plum School District elementary schools. Coats are being distributed to students through the assistance of the elementary guidance counselors and school resource officer. Pictured in the photo from left to right are Pivik Principal Kristen Gestrich, School Resource Officer Joe Little, Pivik Guidance Counselor Amy Palumbo, and Knights of Columbus representative Len Manganello. Coats for Kids is one of the many charitable programs that the Knights of Columbus conducts to help our community. SEMINARIAN DINNER Each year the CCD program at Our Lady of Joy has a vocation/dinner for the seventh and eighth grade classes. The Knights have participated each year by preparing and serving a spaghetti dinner and arranging for speakers. On Tuesday, October 16 four seminarians from Saint Vincent s Seminary in Latrobe joined us for dinner and spoke to the children. One of them was from Beijing, China. They told their individual stories on how they received their calling to study for the priesthood. Their stories were both interesting as well as entertaining. A large turn-out of Brother Knights got things started early in the kitchen making dinner, covering tables, setting out food, serving dinner and cleanup of the kitchen and hall. The program began at 6:30p and ended at 8:00 PM. The entire evening was a success. Brother Knights Bob Carozza, Tony Morell, Frank Papciak, Jeff McCarrick, Rich Wegrzyn, Mark Tierno, Bob Marks, Rob Cecchetti, Sal Altomare, Duane Cardamone, Len DiGirolamo and Ken Wyland pitched in to make the night a success.

6 FAITH IN ACTION: THE SUPREME COUNCIL HAS ANNOUNCED A NEW PROGRAM MODEL FOR K OF C ACTIVITIES At the October 18 Business Meeting, the Financial Secretary reported that Councils, to be eligible for Council awards such as Star Council, etc., must participate in the new Faith In Action Program instituted by Supreme. The new program is different from the way our Council is currently structured. At present, we have 6 Program areas; Church, Community, Council, Family, Youth and Respect For Life. The activities under these six areas are to be re-aligned in accordance with the Faith In Action Program. Below is a description of the new Faith In Action Program. A new program model, titled Faith in Action, will take effect as the umbrella for Knights of Columbus-related activities beginning with the fraternal year. Faith in Action replaces Surge with Service, which was introduced nearly 50 years ago. This model is an evolution of the Building the Domestic Church While Strengthening Our Parish initiative that was introduced in November 2015, Supreme Knight Carl A. Anderson wrote in a letter to state deputies April 6. Faith in Action, the supreme knight explained, embodies a simplified overall program structure, featuring four instead of six categories. Developed by the Supreme Council s Fraternal Mission department, the Faith in Action model carries the Order s unchanged mission into the challenges of a changing world. It includes a strong call to action and focuses on programs in four categories: Faith, Family, Community and Life. Some other key points regarding the updated program model are: Councils should appoint individual faith, family, community and life directors. They will no longer need to appoint a youth or council director, as the Youth and Council categories have been consolidated into the Community, Faith and Family categories. The new model reduces the requirements to earn the Columbian Award, which recognizes excellence in programming and charitable outreach, to completing four programs in each of the four categories. To earn the award, there is one required program in each category, designed to enrich the spiritual life of the council, family and community. These are: a Spiritual Reflection Program; Consecration to the Holy Family; Helping Hands, and a Novena for Life. All current Supreme Council priority programs denoted in bold below will continue. Nine new recommended programs will be introduced.
