2 PRESIDENT S MESSAGE Dale Gathman president@foxvalleyaero.com 2017 is rapidly coming to an end. As we do each year, we had another great Christmas Party. Debbie, John and Katie Howe put forth a lot of effort in planning the party, and we all owe them our appreciation. They did a fantastic job. Thanks also go to Alvin Cole for handling the sound and background music, as well as our own Dave Farquhar and his quartet Implied Harmony for singing for us. Thanks also to Dorie Jacobs and Susan Galle for assisting at check in, and once again, thanks to Doug Swanson for helping out with shooting the photos. They are already available on the web site for your enjoyment. I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Don t forget the Frozen Fingers First-in-Flight event coming up on January 1st. Details are available on our web site. Even if you do not compete, it can be a blast to watch. Hope to see you there, Dale Electronic Election. This was the first time that we voted for our board members via an internet based service. Debbie and John Howe set up the election ballot for us, and almost everyone seemed to have no problems with this new process. A couple of our members had an incorrect address on the spreadsheet, and Debbie did her best to contact those members via telephone. Let me know what you thought of the electronic vote. I believe that this is the way to go in the future. It was much less work and also saved us postage costs. Thanks again to Debbie and John for all of your efforts in making this election an Electronic Success. Congratulations to the 2018 board members. 3 FROM THE SECRETARY Debbie Howe Fox Valley Aero Club - Member Meeting Minutes November 9, Township Hall buponed up for the year. He also said that sadly this will be his last term as field chairman, due to family member s health issues he will need to spend his.me with them and will not be able to do the du.es of the job in the coming year. The club all thanked him for the wonderful job he has done. Flypaper editor Susan Galle did not have anything at the moment but was congratulated on a good job with the paper. Tom Spriet said the turkey fry was in the rear view mirror and that using the shed worked out well especially with the weather we had. He thanked everyone for coming out and bringing a dish and it all worked out very well. Thanks Tom President Dale Gathman opened the mee.ng and welcomed everyone to the last regular mee.ng of the year. Secretary Debbie Howe asked for an approval of the October mee.ng minutes, mo.on to approve was made by Gary Stephens and seconded by Dave Co7on, all approved. Treasurer Paul Jacobs said the checking account is doing well and the next major expenses will be the Christmas party at the Hilton Garden and then the Christmas party at Rookies. He will be calling the grass cueng company to stop service for the year. Paul also said he is accep.ng dues renewal. Paul then explained how the Big Dog raffle worked. A mo.on was made by Sal Perno and seconded by Kevin Kessler to accept the treasurers report, all approved. Dale Gathman said that safety chairperson Jeff Peca was out and had hip surgery, all our hopes for a speedy recovery. Membership chairman Tony Bahowick said we s.ll have 193 paying members. He also reminded the club about membership dues are due. Field Chairman Mark Knoppkie said the field is all Dale Gathman got a head count for the mee.ng to make sure we had 70% of the members at the mee.ng in order to vote on the change of the by-laws. We had 34 members, (the change of the bylaws is apached under separate cover). A vote was taken to amend the by-laws. A mo.on was made to approve the changes by Orvil Fluharty and seconded by Tom Spriet, all approved. Walt Thyng brought in his Maxford Albatross; he had it in his car wai.ng for a good.me where the wind was not too heavy so he figured he would bring it in tonight. He was impressed with the build. He had some problems with the incidences working with a Robart incidence meter due to the flat bopom wing. This will be electric pueng out 2500 waps with an easy to get to hatch. Walt did find some differences in loca.ons against the full scale on vents and guns, but is doing his own modifica.ons. Everyone agrees, it looks great. Dale Gathman wanted to make it clear that the Robart MFG. incidence meter does work well for symmetrical wings but not flat bopom wings. Tom Flint was up next with his Super Decathlon by RC Guys. 4 damage and said that he sent a picture to the company, and even though he did not get it directly from them they sent him a new cowl at no charge. He said his grandson calls it the candy cane plane. He did warn against using an iron on the covering because even at the lightest seeng it shrivels. He will be pueng in a G38 for power. He rear mounted the servos and it was s.ll nose heavy. He is looking for help seeng up his radio with a smoke pump. Nice Job Tom! Dale Gathman went over the nomina.ons that we already have for the club and opened up the floor for more nomina.ons. So far we have: Dale Gathman for President Dave Murray for Vice President Paul Jacobs for Treasurer and Debbie Howe for Secretary Director Posi.ons we have so far nomina.ons for: John Fischer, Tom Flint, Orvil Fluharty, Tom Spriet, Glenn LaRocco, Sal Perno, Armin Weber, Joe Pedone, Mark Knoppkie, and Jim Thompson. Dale said we will be doing elec.ons this year using Survey Monkey, there will be FVAC in the subject line and we will send out an leeng everyone know when vo.ng is open. Reminder to check your spam account. Please make sure any campaign statements are due by Saturday night. Vo.ng will end on the 24th at midnight. We will mail out elec.ons results on the 27th. collected funds that night will go to the Salva.on Army, to help provide Christmas gims for the needy in our area. John Turner said that due to health issues Bad Brad Graphics has closed. He will be missed at our swap as he has been part of our swap for a long.me. We did receive a Thank You leper for the gim we sent for the AMA Founda.on of $325 on Na.onal Model Avia.on Day. John Turner said that the Swap Meet will be held the third Saturday of February. We will be talking to the car guys and doing an R/C car swap behind the check-in area. That way we bring in more people coming through the door. R/C flight desk is up and running. We are not sure if we will have a club table at this.me. We will be doing the foam fly amer as usual. John Fischer said the Warbird and Classic event will be June 21-23rd. Mark your calendar! The registra.on will be up on R/C flight deck. Fees will be going up to $40 and then $45 at the event. We will be working on a theme for the T-shirts and hats. Mo.on made to adjourn by Sal Perno and seconded by Dave Murray, all agreed. Debbie Howe said we will be doing our Christmas/ Holiday Party at the Hilton Garden in St Charles. Bar will open at 6pm, appe.zers will start at 6:30 and then Dinner will be at 7:30. We have been over to see Jeremy at HobbyTown and we will have a lot of different items on the raffle, hopefully something for everyone. We will have the Implied Harmony singing quartet singing for us. We will also be limi.ng the presenta.ons. Please get your reserva.ons in tonight if possible. On the 27th at 7pm we will be having our Rookies Christmas/Holiday party to help raise funds for the angel giving tree for the Salva.on Army. The club will provide the pizza, and wine and beer. 5 FROM OUR TREASURER Paul Jacobs Dues remain $125 and are due on January 1st. You may pay them by check payable to FVAC and send it to the P.O. Box 837, St. Charles, IL or to my home at 1010 Bankfield Ct., Naperville, IL Remember to keep your AMA dues current as you cannot fly at our field unless they are paid. Most expire on December 31st so check your AMA card. Members not paying their FVAC dues by March 31st are considered late and are forbidden from flying at our field un.l they are paid. fun year writing again for you (something which I really do enjoy!) and thanks to Orvil, I have a whole bunch of tips for you as well in the upcoming issues so please let me know if I m boring you or if it s something that you didn t know or whatever - I m always up for input and have some new ideas of my own as well (like getting a new and improved picture of myself for starters!). I won t be at the frozen fingers because I do a pretty good job all by myself being cold all the time anyway - so it s just not something I m up for but I know you will have fun, dress warm and most of all have fun!
