S E P T E M B E R September 5, 1774: The 1st Continental Congress was called to order. Comprised of delegates from all 13 American colonies, it served as the governing body during the American Revolution, from 1774 to Two years later, on September 9, it changed the name of the United Colonies to the United States. September 22, 1862: President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation, which ended slavery in the territories held by the Confederacy, effective January 1, In spite of the ruling, the Civil War would not end for another year and a half after that. September 1, 1939: In the early morning hours of this day, Hitler invaded Poland, starting World War II in Europe. Der Führer called the move a "defensive" retaliation against the persecution of Germans in Poland. September 5, 1961: President John F. Kennedy signed a hijacking bill, making air piracy a federal crime. Punishment ranged from a $10,000 fine to 20 years in prison; if a deadly weapon was used, the perpetrator(s) could receive life in prison or even death.

2 John s Jabberings It s been a busy time the last couple of months. I attended AirVenture and then July and August just flew by. AirVenture was fantastic again this year. I flew in with Dr. Lee Trotter in his Mooney and that was an adventure in itself!! We had marginal weather and there were planes everywhere. One group arrival of Bonanzas had 150 aircraft scrambling to find a place to land until the weather improved at Whitman Field. If you haven t heard my story, ask and I ll give you all the details. We had another Chapter 39 Group camp site that allowed our members to camp together. Next year consider camping with us so we can grow the camp site size!! The Labor Day weekend camp and breakfast hosted by Schindlers and Hasses was a great success. We had over 50 attend for food and fun. The meal had everything you needed, eggs, pancakes, sausage, biscuits and gravy, fruit and sweets! Great job and it was good to see everyone that came out! We had four aircraft fly in so next year we need more!! Be sure to check the calendar for all the upcoming events, Sturgis fly in and Benkert s fly in Burger burn September 11 th at 6:00 PM with program and meeting to follow. See you all at the meeting!! 3 God Bless America!. In this crazy political season, a little religion might be appropriate so here is a short Bible study. Remember what Jesus said: 'Goats on the left, sheep on the right' (Matthew 25:33) Jesus also told Peter that if he wanted to catch fish do it from the right side of the boat. They did and filled the boat with fish. John 21:6 (NIV)... He said, "Throw your net on the right side of the boat and you will find some. When they did, they were unable to haul the net in because of the large number of fish. Origin of Left & Right...I have often wondered why it is that Conservatives are called the right" and Liberals are called the "left. By chance I stumbled upon this verse in the Bible: Ecclesiastes 10:2 (NIV) - "The heart of the wise inclines to the right, but the heart of the fool to the left. Thus sayeth the Lord. Amen. We had 50+ people attend!. Thanks Milo and Betty! It was delicious!! End of lesson!...test to follow on November 6, Remember, November 2018 is to be set aside as rodent removal month. Please share this Bible Lesson with all your friends and buddies to help achieve that goal. Never grow a wishbone where a backbone ought to be. 4 Chapter 39 Meeting Minutes August, 2018 Gary Schroeder, Secretary 8/14/2018 John started the meeting at 7:15 Charlie Summers told us about his tour in Vietnam when he was shot down. Treasurer s report GAAC account $3, and the Chapter 39 account $3, Minutes were read and corrected to clarify the GAAC account is Chapter 39 s account not the GA committees account. Josh Scott was a guest tonight. Labor Day breakfast/campout is Saturday September 1st at Custer State Park in the Calvin Coolidge campground. Some Oshkosh stories were shared. The EAA website fee costs $50.00 now. Jerry P made a motion, Brad D second the motion to pay $90.00 to Molly for the chapter web site fees. The motion passed. Scott advised the rent should go up due to higher utilities and expenses. The Lakeland club is looking for donations for their Cub that needs an overhaul. Brad D made a motion, Charlie S second the motion to give them $ The motion passed.
