Six weeks of Zumba on Tuesdays, beginning May 6. Classes will be held in the Wiltse Center from 6:30-7:30 p.m. The cost is $25.00 for the entire six week session. You don t need prior experience or expertise to participate. The only requirement is a desire to have a great time while exercising. This hour workout does not discriminate based on age or gender. All are welcome! Sign up in the church office no later than Monday, May 5. Questions and sign ups may also be directed to Karla Wischmeyer or Gay Cole. We need 15 prepaid participants to offer the class. Hope to see you there! SALVATION ARMY NEEDS: Canned peaches, canned pork & beans, jelly and macaroni & cheese. TO ALL OF YOU WHO PARTICIPATED IN THE WEAVING, A HUGE THANK YOU! Now we have another project and we hope everyone can participate. The courtyard needs some color so we have a few pots that we are going to do mosaics on. If you have an old chipped plate or a colorful bottle, even a beautiful stone, please consider contributing to the mosaics. You can give us a small piece that you ve broken off or give us the plate and we ll finish the breaking. Next week there will be a basket in the entry by the offices that you may put your offerings in. We d also love to have you join us to help adding pieces to the mosaics. While the Tuesday evening Creativity class will not be devoted totally to this project, some in the class will be working on them and would be happy to have you join in. We d like to get them done in time to put out Memorial Day weekend. "MUFFINS FOR MOTHERS" will be available for pick-up next Sunday, May 11 in the Wiltse Center, 9:30 a.m. to noon. FOOD FOR FUEL Please pick up some M&M candy in the Wiltse Center during coffee fellowship. Simply eat the candy inside the tube, replace with quarters (checks and cash will be accepted too). The money will be used for our fuel for the Mission Trip in June. These may be returned any Sunday in May to the basket on the brick wall or to Ashley Boersma. BLANKET SUNDAY: A blanket for Mother s Day? Sure! We are celebrating Blanket Sunday next weekend in honor of mothers across the globe. For decades Church World Service has been sending blankets and disaster aid around the world when tragedies happen, and we will include a special offering envelope next week to support these efforts. If you would like to donate to Blanket Sunday in honor of your mother, you can pick up a small note in the entry way near the offices to place in your Mother s Day card. This is another opportunity for you to change our world. ANNOUNCEMENTS, PAGE 1 THERE IS NO CHILDREN IN WORSHIP THIS MORNING BECAUSE OF THE CHILDREN S MUSICAL. JUBILATION CHOIR REHEARSALS: Wednesdays, May 7 and 14 from 6:45-7:30 p.m. in the Choir Loft. We will sing at both services on Sunday, May 18! Please come sing! A NEW ADULT CLASS, SIMPLY CHRISTIAN: WHY CHRISTIANITY MAKES SENSE, BY AUTHOR N.T. WRIGHT (THE BISHOP OF DURHAM) BEGINS TODAY and runs through June 15 at 9:30 a.m. in Room 10. Join facilitator Ray Komray to watch a DVD and discuss this engaging study. Wright challenges skeptics and explores what the Christina faith is all about. Insights will be provided to some of the toughest questions believers face today: justice and spirituality, relationships, God, Israel, Jesus the Holy Spirit, and the new creation. CONGREGATION INVITED TO CELEBRATE CONFIRMANDS: This year our church family will be celebrating with the young people who will make a decision to join the church through Confirmation. They have been meeting with their Mentors through the winter months and will take this important step on Sunday, May 18, Beginning on May 11 and continuing through May 18, there will be bags placed on the brick wall in the lobby by the church office, each bearing the name of one of our Confirmands. We are inviting the congregation to celebrate these young people by placing into these bags cards, or any small tokens to affirm this step in their spiritual Journey. BOOK REVIEW NEWS: We will meet on Monday, May 19 at 6:30 p.m. in the Ryder Lounge to discuss David & Goliath, by Malcolm Gladwell. All are welcome to join in the discussion. Call Karyn Gillan at 616/ if you have questions. MUSKEGON RIVER KAYAK RUN: The annual Church of the Dunes Kayak trip on the Muskegon River is scheduled for Monday, July 7. Arrangements for the kayak rentals, launch and pick-up will be organized through Wisner Rents Canoes in Newaygo. A lunch is planned following the trip from Croton Dam to Hi-Rollway Boat Launch. Those interested in joining the group for a fun day on the river should contact Pete Peterson at 616/ or Herm Tanis at 616/ ASAP to allow time for advanced reservations with Wisner Rents Canoes. THE CHURCH OF THE DUNES GOLFERS welcome all golfers for informal play on Monday mornings at Terra Verde Golf Course in Nunica, beginning May 12 at 9:00 a.m. for 9 holes (some play 18). Join us for the kick off luncheon which will be held on Monday, May 5 at 11:30 a.m. at Snug Harbor in Grand Haven. UNITED METHODIST MEN: On Monday, May 12 at 6:00 p.m., the UMM will hold their final dinner/meeting in the Social Hall prior to the summer months ahead. We, however, remain active with a variety of projects. This invitation goes out to all men in the church; although anyone is welcome to join us for the evening. Scott Klingberg from Holland Rescue Mission will present a program on their mission work, objectives, and activities to those in need. Please join us for an enjoyable evening. Any questions, call Dick Tanis ( ). THE CHILDREN S HARBOR HUMANE SOCIETY MISSION IS BEING EXTENDED. The children are close to their goal to raise funds to build one full kennel at the Harbor Humane Society. Children have until Sunday, May 18 to return their Lenten banks. We have decided to commit all of the children s offerings through the end of the school year to this project. Remember, there is an anonymous donor that is matching dollar for dollar so every donation given is automatically doubled.
