I love that day! I enjoy watching the Macy s parade and having our family all together to share in a wonderful meal. But most of all I enjoy counting my blessings and giving thanks to our God. But a day is not enough. I have so much to be thankful for that I need more than a day of thanks, I need a season of thanksgiving. Perhaps you do too. I want to encourage our church family to make the entire month of November a season of thanksgiving. Take time each day to reflect on your blessings and offer your gratitude to God. VETERAN S DAY One thing we should all be thankful for are the men and women who have served our country in the armed forces. Veteran s Day is on Sunday November 11 th and we will be doing a special tribute to veterans and active duty personnel in all three services. DECK THE HALLS For many years we have kicked off the Christmas season at the church by decorating the sanctuary during worship. This year we want to start a new tradition. On Saturday, December 1 st we will be having a family event at the church from 11:00 a.m.- 2:00 p.m. We will create a special holiday craft project, share together in soup and sandwiches for lunch, participate in some fun Christmas activities, then close out the event by working together to decorate the sanctuary and the Big room. HELPING HANDS MINISTRY This ministry responds to EMSCC members need for temporary assistance: LIGHT CLEANING, MEALS, RIDES TO DR. APPTS, LAUNDRY, ETC. Call the church office ( ) to be a part of this special ministry, if you have questions, or need HELPING HANDS. JUST A REMINDER ABOUT MEMORIAL FLOWERS! Those wishing to provide flowers for a certain Sunday in memory of loved ones must contact the florist of their choice to place and pay for the order themselves at that time. If you wish your memorial flower information printed the Sunday bulletin, please contact the church office by the Thursday before the Sunday you have selected. Thank you! CHRISTIAN GROWTH PLAN DAILY: Spend 20 min. Bible reading/ study & 10 min. in prayer (time can be divided). WEEKLY Participate in worship & do some service applying Scripture lessons. MONTHLY: Get involved in a ministry and/or mission opportunity. QUARTERLY: Read /listen to a book to educate, inspire, motivate and challenge spiritual growth. 3 NOVEMBER 2018 NEWSLETTER PAGE 3 NEWS & VIEWS FOOD PANTRY UPDATE If you can help, the Elwood Food Pantry always needs the following food items: canned fruit, oatmeal cereal packets, boxed cereal, boxed potatoes, Knorr Rice packets, canned potatoes, canned sweet potatoes, soups, macaroni, spaghetti, spaghetti sauce, cake mixes, Raman noodles, granola bars, cookies, crackers, peanut butter, jelly, toilet paper, soaps, hygiene items and plastic bags from grocery trips. They can also use cash and/or Needlers gift cards. Thank you...your support is so appreciated! COMMUNITY MEAL SCHEDULE 1st United Methodist Church : 2nd Sat., 5pm East Main St. Christian Ch : 3rd Thurs., 6pm St. Joseph s Catholic Ch: 4th Wed., 5pm St. John s Lutheran Ch 4th Sat., noon. MISSION MINISTRY UPDATE Each year in November we observe Veteran s Day by sharing together in a special offering to support our active duty personnel. Military chaplains have found that the best way to give the Bible to our troops is to use Bible Sticks. These are small digital Mp3 players that have the Bible loaded onto them. Each one comes in a box with earbuds and a Bible reading plan to help them find comfort and encouragement from God s word. Please join us in supporting our troops. Upcoming mission trips to the Dominican Republic: January 19-26, 2019 July 13-20, 2019
