1 July 2014 Grand Knight Letter July 2014 It is very interesting how GOD is always speaking to us. We just have to listen. When I think of The Apostles of Jesus name I think of the Last Supper with 12 apostles with Jesus. I think of the rectory for The Apostles of Jesus that our council members are actively participating in completing. I even think further about our Knights of Columbus Council 4731 membership as the 317 members who are truly 317 Apostles of Jesus doing the work by their daily actions and deeds and prayers. We as the Apostles of Jesus continue the mission of Jesus Christ by serving God and His people through charitable acts. Three additional recent examples are: The Knight at the races where we collected $10, This is a charitable act for the benefit of Saint Augustines Rainbow Camp. Measure up Campaign where we collected approximately $3, The Measure-Up Campaign is the most significant charitable act we can do for our brothers and sisters with developmental disabilities The Charity Ticket Campaign where we sold 3,111 tickets and we were #1 in the state. Attached is a partial list of Charities that these Super Cash Bonanza Ticket Sales support in our North Olmsted Council North Olmsted Ohio Human Services Department: Developmental Disabilities Catholic Clerics: Catholic Nuns, Catholic Priests, Catholic Seminarians Catholic collections of: Used cell phones for those in need of an emergency 911 cell phone Used eyeglasses for those in need Lifeworks Ohio: Parmadale Family Services, Parmadale Institute, Parmadale Residential Treatment Right to Life Ronald Mc Donald House aluminum tab donation Saint Augustine Christmas party Saint Augustine Church Ministries to the disabled Saint Augustine Manor Saint Augustine Rainbow Camp United States of America Veterans hospital United States of America Veterans hospital gift shop The Knights of Columbus, Council 4731 Assembly 816, VFW, cub scouts, our council members, our members family and friends participated in the Flag Retirement (Internment) Ceremony in front of the Saint Clarence pavilion on Thursday June 12, 2014 at 6:30 P.M. This was the 60th anniversary of the date on which President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed the law adding the words Under God to the Pledge of Allegiance. The Knights of Columbus played a key role in having these words Under God added to the pledge. Note: due to the amount of pictures in this months Narrator we have omitted the patron list. 1

4 Two Resolutions Proposed at the Wednesday April 2, 2014 Meeting Be it resolved by the members of Council 4731 of the Knights of Columbus to donate $1, (fi een hundred dollars) for a sponsorship in Youth Challenge for children with physical disabili es. We understand that this sponsorship will be used to offset any fees so that one of the par cipants may a end all Youth Challenge events for a year without cost to the family. Be it resolved by the members of Council 4731 of the Knights of Columbus to authorize $1, for the purchase of 9 wheelchairs. Each will be donated to our 9 associated parishes for their benevolent use. Brothers, Thank you for supporting our 2014 Measure Up Drive. We collected $3350 over our 2 weekends at Walmart, & approx. $500 thru our Gimme5 w/dues. Once again, thank you for all your help & generosity! Fraternally, Ray Rowe Measure Up Chairman Brother Knight s Bill Marquard and Joe Hoehn PGK, in front of WalMart collecting for the Measure Up Campaign. Clubs for Kids The Knight of Columbus Cleveland Chapter collects golf clubs that are no longer used by members and their friends. The clubs are cleaned up and cut down and given to the Clubs for Kids program. Brother Larry Miller collects the clubs and delivers them to Garfield Heights Council. If you have any unused clubs, balls or bags please bring them to one of our meetings and we will arrange for them to get to Garfield Heights Council. 4

6 Lecture Topic "Project S.T.O.P." Stop The Oppressive Predator EMPOWERING AND EDUCAT- ING CHILDREN by Guest Speaker Cathy DuBois, CEO / Founder Reinventing The Cycle (protecting though educating). Did you know that 1 out of 4 girls and 1 out of 7 10 boys will be molested by the time they are 18? Mission statement: The mission of reinventing the Cycle, a 501 (30 tax deductible non prifit organization, is to provide educational programs that will empower people to break dysfunctional life cycle and then reinvent positive, healthy ones. Knight at the Races: an event North Olmsted Council 4731 presents each year to Help St. Augustine Church to fund there Rainbow Camp for the needy. This year we raised over $10,000 dollars.
