1 The Spirit A Monthly Publication of West Bloomfield, Michigan Holy Spirit Lutheran Church April 2016 SUNDAY, APRIL 10 During the Coffee Hour In the Fall of each year we have a Stewardship Event. That event focuses on our financial giving. But Stewardship is much more than money, it also involves our Giving of Time & Talents! Time Some of us or each of us at some times in our hectic lives are blessed with the gift of Time, whether it s a few hours once a week or an hour every day or some other piece of time which has not been eaten up by the necessities of our busy lives. We are called to consider filling those periods of time with some act of service, from caring for the church building and grounds to serving a meal to the homeless. Talent All of us have been blessed with some skill or Talent, but sometimes we think that our talent is not good enough. However, the desire to try to participate in a new activity or service sometimes helps us to grow in our skills. Many who participate in ministries at HSLC have taken a leap of faith, offering what they have, and discovering that there was more inside of them than they knew. Some of us have been blessed with special talents whether it s the ability to relate to other people, to create beauty through art or music, to think strategically and organize plans and events, to impart your knowledge and teach others, etc. Remember what Jesus said about not hiding your light under a bushel! Many HSLC ministries could benefit greatly by your gifts, and the entire community would be blessed.

4 Congregational Life Who would have thought that so many people would be eating the same soup for so long in February. Thanks to everyone who was willing to participate in our Soup Supper and so very sorry Mother Nature did not see fit to let the event take place! Here s hoping for much better weather next year. Thank you to all the men for again providing Easter breakfast under the great direction of Bob Frick. Thanks you also to Judy Bergman for the Easter Egg Hunt and decorations. Dinner with Friends is on April 8 at the Uptown Grille, 3100 E Maple Road, Walled Lake at 6:30 pm. If you ve not joined us previously, consider doing so now. There s a great group of people who enjoy conversation, food and getting out for dinner. Please sign up by Sunday, April 3, so I know how many to make reservations on Monday, April 4. WELCA s annual Fashion Show is April 21 at the lovely Bay Pointe Golf Club. The doors open at 6 pm and a light meal will be served around 6:30 pm with fashion show following. Tickets are on sale through April 6 from Barb Kunkel or Trudi Burns for $30 each. Fashions are provided by the Clothing Cove of Milford. Come and bring your friends. The golf season is not far off so mark your calendar for the Herb Martin Golf Outing on Sunday, June 26. Full details will be available in several weeks. Worship & Music Welcome to our new Choir Director Tai Yeung who is from Hong Kong, has a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from Bowling Green State University and is a candidate for Master of Music in Vocal Performance at Oakland University. He is fluent in Mandarin, Cantonese, and English. Tai plays clarinet and has a melodic tenor voice. The Spirit Page 4
