Kopotic KC INSURANCE Luke Meinholz Cottage Grove Chaplain s Corner Dear Brother Knights, This time of year is one often in people s lives of endings and new beginnings. School years end. Students graduate. The transfer of priests takes place in the Diocese. Life in the summer tends to slow down a bit and we have the opportunity to reflect on how the last few months of activity have gone. The one constant through all our days is Jesus Christ. So much of life is in flux. There seems to be constant change and new challenges. We would be overwhelmed if it were not for the steady direction given by our faith. Constantly we have the assurance of the Presence of the Lord in our daily life. This is what gives us the hope to look forward to the future with confidence. I often hear parishioners say and I wonder myself how people cope without faith. Thanks be to God that we have this wonderful gift in our life. Brother Knights, Right to Life Pro-Life Meditations on the Sorrowful Mysteries of the Rosary The Agony in the Garden Let us pray for mothers and fathers who are in agony because they are tempted to abort a child. May they be given the good news that there are alternatives, and may they make use of the help that is available. The Scourging As Christ's flesh was torn by the instruments of those who scourged Him, so the bodies of babies in the womb are torn by the instruments of the abortionists. Let us pray that abortionists may repent of these acts of child-killing. The Crowning With Thorns Jesus suffered the pain of thorns in His head, and did so silently. We pray for the mothers and fathers of aborted children. So many of them suffer deep grief and regret over a choice they can never reverse. So many suffer in silence, because others tell them it's no big deal. The Carrying of the Cross Jesus was not condemned by the power of wicked people. He was condemned because of the silence of good people. Silence always helps the oppressor, never the victim. Let us pray that we may never be silent about abortion, but rather will clearly speak up to save babies from death. The Crucifixion As we ponder the death of Christ, let us remember the many women who have died from so-called "safe, legal" abortions. Let us ask forgiveness and mercy for them. May their memory save other women from making this tragic mistake. (from priestsforlife.org) Grand Knight s Report June brings the start of summer, graduations, Father's Day and backyard cookouts. Speaking of cookouts, mark your calendar now for Sunday, July 24. The Council family cookout is back! Thank you to Brother Marv Derr who volunteered to chair the cookout. Our council Chaplain, Msgr. Duane Moellenberndt, will celebrate 40 years of ordination to the priesthood on June 12. Msgr. Duane will be honored at the 11:00 am Mass of Thanksgiving at Sacred Hearts. Congratulations Msgr. Duane, and thank you for your year s of service to our council and our church. June also marks the end of the Fraternal Year. You may recall me speaking of achieving Star Council this year during past council meetings. The Star Council Award consists of winning three individual awards: Father McGivney Award for membership growth, Founders Award for insurance growth and the Columbian Award for council service programs. Since I am writing this in mid-may things could change, but as of now it looks good for our council to achieve the Columbian Award and the Founders Award. However, we need a surge in recruiting to achieve the Father McGivney award. Have you asked two men if they want to learn more about the Knights? Have you asked your eligible son? 4 Chaplain s Corner-Continued At Sacred Hearts we are just concluding the current academic year. Already staff is bringing me the dates for approval for the September through June time frame. My feeling is can t we just finish what we are about first and then look at all the months ahead. I know we can t do that and our future plans for parish and school must be done now. One thing we are all aware of is how fast time goes. Time doesn t belong to us. The one constant as time passes is Jesus. All time belongs to God. God, of course, sees with the eyes of eternity. God views time differently from us for God always was, always is and always will be. As we get caught in our own schedules and the speed with which time passes, may we be comfortable in the knowledge all our days are in God s hands. So let us rest secure God will care for us. As Jesus said in the Gospel of Matthew, So do not worry about tomorrow. Tomorrow will take care of itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. God bless and summer blessings, Msgr. Duane Moellenberndt Council News & Events Cont. Charity Raffle/ Tootsie Roll Campaign The Charity Raffle came to a close at the KC State Convention in Wisconsin Dells on April 30 th. Our council purchased or sold a total of 684 tickets that resulted in sales of $3420. Despite our best efforts our council did not have any winners. These funds will be deposited into our Worthy Cause account to aid our charitable contributions, specifically to fund two seminarian scholarships. Thank you to all the members that participated and helped in making this years raffle a success. I would also like to thank Brother Steve Kueffer s commitment of time and effort for again leading our council in ticket sales. The People with Intellectual Disabilities Campaign (PWID) was conducted the weekend of May 13 th -15 th with $2655 being raised. Proceeds from the collected donations will be used to support the Special Education programs at Sacred Heart s School and the Sun Prairie School District and also to support the Sun Prairie Special Olympics. Thank you to all the KC volunteers that participated in the Tootsie Roll Campaign and especially to Brothers Ralph Weitzman, Joe White and Jerry Kreitinger for counting and recording all the donations and for staffing the Roundtable office during the campaign. Seagren 20th 2016 May Family of the Month Mike Pertzborn and family Brother Mike and his wife Shirley are members of Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Church. Mike is a Bingo caller and Shirley can often be found helping with Bingo while Mike is working as a caller. Mike and Shirley are also regular helpers at the annual Groundhog Ball. Mike is a Past Grand Knight and has chaired a number of programs such as the Columbus Day Banquet. Outside of the Knights Mike is an Usher at Sacred Hearts. David Foelker KC Kudos 2016 May Knight of the Month Sir Knight and Brother David is serving our council as our Chancellor. just completed chairing two important council programs. In April he successfully finished leading our council participation in the Wisconsin State Council Charity Raffle ticket sales. In May he planned and organized another successful Tootsie Roll Drive. Proceeds from the Charity Raffle ticket sales go towards our charitable activities, particularly our Seminarian support. Proceeds from the Tootsie Roll Drive go towards Sun Prairie Special Olympics and the Special Education programs of Sun Prairie Schools and Sacred Hearts School. In addition to his time spent on KC activities David is an Usher at Sacred Hearts and a Knight of Divine Mercy..!
