2 FROM PROPERTY MANAGEMENT Tips to Prepare for Bad Weather At your apartment 1. Keep flashlights, batteries and a portable radio on hand. 2. Stock up on non-perishables such as canned goods and have a manual can opener. 3. You may want to fill a large clean pot or bucket with fresh water. 4. Have medications filled and if you are on Oxygen, make sure that you have extra portable tanks on hand. 5. If you have a car, fill the gas tank. Secure your outside furniture and take in any items that may blow around. (ex. Bird feeders and wind chimes). If you feel you would be more comfortable with family or friends Call ahead to make arrangements. Please make sure that when you leave your apartment you: Close and lock your windows and doors Turn off all electrical items Ensure that your pets are taken care of or that you take them with you - Secure pet with carrier - Pack pet food and pet equipment, such as a leash or harness Pack your medications/medical equipment and list of medications (File of Life) Take outerwear: coats for warmth or rain Please leave a message at the Property Management Office that you have left your apartment. FROM MAINTENANCE As the days are getting increasingly shorter, we have to continue to turn our thoughts to the winter heating season. In an effort to increase our energy efficiency, we have started our weatherization program. We are encouraging everybody to think about how we can save energy. We have recently had additional insulation installed in some of the Woodside Village buildings, at no cost to us as part of an energy conservation program from Cape Light Compact. This is part of an ongoing program from Cape Light Compact and Housing Assistance Corporation. If you notice any drafty windows and doors please let us know so that we could try and repair or replace any weather stripping that might be needed. Greg Monka Maintenance Director

3 Marge Toenges November 2, 1926 Connie Sanborn October 1, 1926 TENANT CONTRIBUTIONS Written by Connie Sanborn on September 16, 2016 Connie and Marge Marge and Connie. Both will be 90 and that s not funny! Marge is a doer of endless good deeds. While Connie just sits there filling her needs with the amazing amazon. Her faithful friend. (Instant gratification...until the end!) Marge bakes good things and drives her car. Connie eats those good things whatever they are! Marge waters our plants Gives birthday cards to us all. Orders our memorial plaques...winter, spring, summer and fall. Quietly, generously she contributes so large. Connie says when I grow up I want to be just like Marge! Joan s Bible Study to start up again in November. All are invited! Classes will be held in the A Hall Community Room. Wednesday 9:30am-11am and Friday 9:30am-11am. Hope to see you there on Wednesday, November 2nd. Woodside Community Garden: Pride is when you see your veggies and flowers produce and the rewards for your efforts. I d say we had a good summer. Every garden bed was taken and producing. Special thanks to Doug Searle and Mary Gazaille couldn t do it without your willingness to help me. Edgartown Boy Scouts, their leader Jonathan Polleys took on a special project in July and September. Trent Bilodeau, JJ, Henry Kyburg and Willian Herman were here in July. In September from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints two visiting missionaries Elder Geardelli and Elder Riches took on projects and we thank them so much. Every bit of help makes the garden so lovely. 4 SUPPORTIVE SERVICES Food Pantry: The Island Food Pantry is open for the winter. The hours are: 2pm 4pm on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Eligibility letters are available in the Service Coordinator s office and the Hillside Village Manager s office. Dental Clinic Vineyard Smiles will be having a Dental Clinic at Hillside Village 1 on Friday, November 18. The Clinic is open to all IEH residents who do not have dental insurance. A free cleaning and exam is provided. Please call Ann to sign up. The Clinic will run from 9am 3pm Thanksgiving Dinner Volunteers from the Oak Bluffs COA and the Tisbury COA will be delivering Thanksgiving Dinners to IEH residents. The delivery is on Thanksgiving Day The deadline to sign up is Monday, November 14 th. Call Ann Baird to sign File of Life Very Important! Your File of Life should be filled out and updated as needed. The Oak Bluffs EMT s have asked that everyone keep a current File of Life on your refrigerator. New Forms are available at the Service Coordinator s office. Thank you to John Rose, Shawn Broadley, Cindy Hatt and Captain Erik Wildanger from the Oak Bluffs Fire EMS Department for coming to Woodside Village on Saturday the 22 nd of October to discuss Fire Prevention and Safety with us. Their presentation on Fire safety was well received by all in attendance. We appreciated their dedication. Hershel West from Woodside Village 1 and lifelong fisherman from Menemsha was being interviewed and filmed recently for the upcoming documentary about the history of the fishing industry on Martha s Vineyard. Congratulation s Hershel we look forward to seeing the film at the MVFC when it comes out!
