To help prevent accidents: Install grab bars on walls around the tub and beside the toilet, strong enough to hold your weight. Add non-skid mats or appliqués to bathtubs. Install a portable, hand-held shower head. Add a padded bath or shower seat. Install a raised toilet seat, if needed. Use non-skid mats on floor surfaces that may get wet. 4 COMING TO AMERICA (A Family Moves) William Taylor and his son James emigrated from Manchester, England to New York on the 6th of January, Wife Elizabeth, son David and four female children arrived from England on November 4th of the same year and the family first settled in Bellville, NJ. The family moved from Bellville to other places in New Jersey, New York City, and New York State and after 19 moves in 9 years and one more child, on April 21, 1820, the family came to New Lebanon, NY and were able to live in one of the houses on the Shaker Farm and join the Shaker Colony if desired. The Shakers were a religious society. Family members were not allowed to live together or take part in family activities. Everyone had their duties including farming, house cleaning, cooking, and making items to sustain the church colony. They were known for their dancing, thus the shaking and well known for inventing packaged seeds and making furniture. The family left the Shaker colony in 1827 and then desired to return in During this period William Jr. was born. He was determined to be simple (mentally deficient). The family was allowed to return but William Sr. would not sign the covenant so was not acceptable to join the church as a Shaker. He was well respected by the sect so he, Elizabeth and William Jr. were provided a place to live in one of the houses near the mill pond with the stipulation that they sign over all their belongings so that upon their deaths William Jr. would be cared for and not be a burden to the Colony. William Jr. died one year after his mother in When the family returned in 1830, all the children stayed in the church except son David who settled in Athens, NY. Daughter Eliza Ann Taylor become of the strong leaders in the Church and as an Elderess she was appointed First in the Ministerial Order and served in that position for 21 years. David was the family member who kept most of the family records and was Bill Taylor s Great Grandfather. AAUW Movie: The Sapphires Sunday, November 17 2 PM The Sapphires is a 2012 Australian musical comedy-drama based on the 2004 stage play of the same name which is loosely based on a true story. The film is about four indigenous women who are discovered by a talent scout, and form a music group called The Sapphires, traveling to Vietnam in 1968 to sing for troops during the war. A lady went to her psychiatrist one day and said, Doctor, my husband thinks he is a refrigerator when he sleeps.
