2 Lesley Page is a Private Pilot and Motivational speaker. Her first flight was in a small airplane when she was 50. It was love at first flight! Never one to be content to just go along for the ride in life, she obtained her Private Pilot license in the spring of When she s not using her airplane for trips, her passion is sharing her love of flying with others. She has received several awards for introducing women and young people to aviation by taking them for free flights in her airplane. Lesley is an experienced public speaker and engaging story-teller. She enjoys inspiring people to overcome their fears and obstacles and to achieve their dreams. Lesley Page Brilliant Minded Women 2017 Volunteer of the Year Lesley s most popular presentation is entitled Life is Too Short to be a Passenger. It is the motivational story of her journey from burned-out corporate executive to awardwinning private pilot. She describes how she conquered her fears, overcame obstacles and achieved her dream. Although the stories and examples used are related to her flight training, the presentation has relevance beyond aviation, as the strategies that she covers can be applied to many aspects of life, and are particularly useful when facing large life changes. It is also entertaining, as she employs humour and lots of photos throughout. Audiences will be inspired to take charge in their lives and have the courage to soar to new heights. 2

6 Many of our PROBUS members volunteer in our community. We have highlighted some organizations where you can volunteer. Peggy Neely, Diane Burley, Sonja Garlick, Leslie Caswell, Judy Clapp, Mary Beth Jarvis, Anne Mundy, Lynn Todgham and Lynne Newell help with the local canvas in April. June and Tom Banks volunteer along with Gayle McCaig, Cathy Nystrom, and Diane Burley. Jeannine Colvin volunteers for the St. Vincent de Paul organization which helps the economically disadvantaged. The Hospital Auxiliary (helps with a variety of jobs within the hospital) members include: Tom Banks, Beryl Clayson, Dian Davenport, Susan Dirks, Kira Hadden, Ron Hadden, Heather Hockin, Barb Johnston, Diane Litchfield, Susan Magee, Marg Masterson, Jane Rice, Ann Rogers, Marilyn Stirling, Mary Ray Ward, Ray Ward, Marg Wood and Peter Wood. Sam Havens is the largest individual fundraiser for the Terry Fox Run in Huntsville having raised over $71,000. 6

7 Volunteerism: those who serve always benefit more than those who are served... Jim Grieve Jacquie and Jack Howell celebrated their 32nd year as volunteers for the Triathlon. They also volunteer for Knitting for Global Warmth. Rod McLean, Cathie Flanagan and Lorraine Blondin volunteered for the Dwight Library expansion fundraiser. Rod McLean and Ann Rogers serve on the Lake of Bays Library Board. Lynne Newell volunteers for the Friends of Algonquin Park by cleaning a trail. Meals on Wheels volunteers are: Judy Clapp, Beryl Clayson, Paul Clayson, Anne Cumming, Patrick Flanagan, John McCaig, Peter Rooke, Pat Spencer, Mary Ray Ward, Ray Ward, Marg Wood and Peter Wood.
