1 2018 STERN FAMILY SUMMER PROJECT The Stern Family Summer Project, now in its 13th year, is made possible by the generous support of long-time Holland & Hart client and Holland & Hart Foundation donor, the Stern family. This project encourages the daughters, sons, nieces, nephews, and grandchildren of attorneys and staff at Holland & Hart to learn about the value of philanthropy and volunteerism from an early age, and also helps benefit the organizations that are selected by the kids who participate. To participate, a child needs to volunteer or, if too young to volunteer, to visit an organization of that child s choosing. After volunteering or visiting, the child writes a letter or submits a drawing to the Holland & Hart Foundation telling us about the experience. A donation is then made directly from the Holland & Hart Foundation to the organization in the name of the child. This year, 15 children ranging in age from 3 to age 17 with connections to the firm s Boulder, Cheyenne, Denver, and Salt Lake City offices volunteered or visited an organization of their choice, and $1,500 was donated to 8 different organizations on behalf of the Stern Family. Please take a moment to enjoy these children s experiences through the attached letters, drawings, and photos. Ashley Wald President, HHF 20 TH ANNIVERSARY
2 2018 STERN FAMILYSUMMER PROJECT SALT LAKE CITY Carter and Mason Maxwell, Primary Children s Hospital Their letter is typed below and two pictures are attached to this We made two blankets for some kids at Primary Children's Hospital. Our little brother Owen had to get some tests done at the hospital earlier this year and we got to visit his clinic. We talked about other kids who had to stay at the hospital and were very sick. We picked out some fabric at the store that we liked basketball and Avenger superheroes. Then we made two blankets with our friends and parents one night. We brought the blankets to the hospital to help make some other boys at the hospital happy and comfortable. Carter (5) & Mason (3) Maxwell 2

6 CHEYENNE Luke Gregorio, St. Joseph s Church Y Disciple Program Luke Gregorio 248 Ames Ave Cheyenne Wy July 13 th 2018 Dear Stern Family Project, My grandmother is with Holland and Hart and has always offered us a way to give back to a charity every year. This, as I have been informed will be my last time being able to request a company to sponsor. I am very grateful for all you have helped with, through just me writing a simple letter of request. This past year has been a hectic one and it can be summed up with one word, eventful. Prior to beginning my senior year of high school, I set goals for myself, those being good grades, apply for scholarships, and begin planning for my future. I achieved two of those goals, the future is hard to plan. Good grades weren t enough for me to go to college, money started to become a big topic on my mind. And scholarships were my only solution to that up incoming problem. Along with this came with some advice from my mother don t put all your eggs in one basket. To which I would now answer sorry mom. I went all in (not really) on one scholarship which I received and am very grateful for. After surveys and interviews with this program I was awarded the Daniels Fund scholarship, 1 out of the 36 awarded in the state of Wyoming. The programs and ministry s I have been a part of, have influences and guided me and I thank them for the opportunities they have given me. One being Y Disciples, a program at my church that helps the young people in my churches community to help others. Through community service along with informative classes this program teaches young people to be active in their community s. Being that the small budget of this program has been cut this final year I would ask that you once again sponsor St Joseph s Y Disciple program so that others can be able to continue to attend and participate to form their journey of faith. Once again, I thank you for always sponsoring many companies, through the writings of children and young adults. I think this has also made an impact in my life, and hope that one day I will make a small difference in the world, like you have made in mine. Thank You, Luke Gregorio Please send to: St. Joseph s Church Attn: Father Carl Gallinger P.O. Box 1141 Cheyenne, WY
7 CHEYENNE Olivia Gregorio, St. Mary s Cathedral, Vita Nova Coffee Ministry July 13, 2018 Dear Stern Project, I am Olivia Gregorio, my grandma Jan works at Holland and Hart. I am now 16 years old, am at Wyoming Connections Academy and will be a senior next year. I got my first job, working for the City at the Prairie View Golf Course, and I really like it. I am still a helper for our Faith Formation program for 1 st grade, this is my 4 year doing this. Last year my other grandmother, began to let me teach, we had students in the class and I found that I am really good at teaching. My mom inspired me on that, I also helped lead music at our Vacation bible school program, we had a lot of kids come this year, and I was one of seven that got a pie in the face at the end. I am also in the YDisciple program at my church at St. Joseph s. Every year you help with whatever I ask for with a company. Last year I asked for help with a priest who began a coffee shop on an Indian reservation, and then he got moved to Cheyenne WY, and still does this ministry through his office. His name is Fr. Andrew Kinsetter. I promised him to help continue his ministry where ever he was. I know God works through so many people and I know that He works through gifts that are given. My mother always says I should never give up on any calling, and I think that Father Andrew s coffee ministry is a calling, just like I am being called at being a teacher or a business owner of my own (that s my dream). So this year, once again I would like to ask for help with Father Andrew Kinsetter s coffee ministry of the VITA NOVA. So he can continue with his ministry and calling. My mom always says, never give up on people, there is a purpose that God put them in your life. I haven t been much help with him this past year, but I still want to make an effort, when I can. And I hope this will help him a little. Thank you for all you do for so many who write these letters, and thanks for always answering my letter and helping me help another as well. Address to mail to: St. Mary s Cathedral Attn: Fr. Andrew Kinsetter 2107 Capitol Ave Cheyenne WY Thanks, Olivia Gregorio 7
