2 Dear Friends, October is upon us! Did you know October is: Adopt a Shelter Dog Month, American Pharmacist Month, Apple Jack Month, Awareness Month, Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Clergy Appreciation Month, Computer Learning Month, Cookie Month, Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Eat Country Ham Month, International Drum Month, Lupus Awareness Month, National Diabetes Month, National Pizza Month, National Vegetarian Month, National Popcorn Popping Month, Sarcastic Month, Seafood Month????? That s a little overwhelming so for us here at Faith, I would like to challenge us to make October our own Ephesians 4:29 month. To begin trying to live by the advice found in Paul s words. Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. What if we paid enough attention to what we are saying that we focused on uplifting encouraging words and try to eliminate the words that are unproductive, or unwholesome? Someone has said that it takes 21 days to develop a new habit. And so, I place before you the challenge to begin striving to live by Eph.4:29. If you will join me in the challenge, I have purple bracelets that say Ephesians 4:29 on one side, and Faith UMC on the other. The challenge is this. Place the bracelet on your wrist, and when you say something that is unwholesome, you have to remove the bracelet and put it on the other wrist. Next time you say something unwholesome, you place it on the other, and so on. The goal is to go 21 days without having to move the bracelet! Ask me for a bracelet if you want to join me! Now there is no magic in this the bracelet merely raises our awareness of the words that we speak and when we take the challenge and wear the bracelet we are also submitting ourselves to one another to help keep us accountable for our words. After all, our words reflect who we are to the world. Join me won t you in striving to live by Paul s words found in Ephesians, so that we might be imitators of God, as dearly loved children, and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God. (5:1&2) Leaning into the Future with Hope, Rev. Donna All Saints Sunday November 4 h! On All Saints Sunday, we remember those who have gone on to the Church Triumphant in the past year. During worship on that Sunday, we will have a candle on the altar in memory of your loved one. During the worship service, the name of each loved one will be read, a chime struck, and the candle lit. If you have had a loved one die in the past year, please fill out the form below, or contact the church office to include your loved one. We would also invite you to be present that day and light the candle if you wish, or one of our acolytes will light it for you. Name of Person to be remembered: Your Name: Phone: Which Service? 8:00 or 10:15 (circle one) Please place in offering plate. 2
