2 Pastor John s Journal Happy March! We are now well into I had forgotten how mixed the weather can be in Ohio. From days below zero to 70 degrees in the course of a week. In like lion, out like a lamb, people often say about March. But that can be a regular week in March in Ohio. February and March are also award show season. People honoring actors, directors, lighting people, costumers, and others for their contribution to film. It is so subjective to award one person a trophy over another person. Some of the Winter Olympics are the same. One judge s opinion on how someone did a turn or move can cost that person a metal. We like to think that life is black and white, but in reality, it is a series of choices and views that determine whether something is valuable or not. Some people like the zero-degree weather, while others prefer the 70 degrees. Some like the snow, others, the rain, and still others the precipitation free days. It is a matter of opinion. Faith is the same thing. Some people give thing up for Lent, others try to do something positive that they would not normally do. Some eat only fish on Fridays, some eat whatever they want no matter what the day. Some people like traditional Hymns, some like Praise Music. Some like Bible Studies, some like quiet personal devotions. All are valuable, as long as we do what we do for the glory of God. The 31 st of March is what is called in Christian circles, Holy Saturday, the day before Easter. Easter this year is April 1 st. Some say that Christianity is foolish and that it is inappropriate to celebrate something as unlikely as the resurrection of Jesus. I say that it is an appropriate day for we are all fools and sinners and the day of resurrections catches us off guard as we see the Risen Lord! Some will say that it is all smoke and mirrors. Others might say that Easter is a day for families, Easter Egg Hunts, and chocolate. I say it is the day of celebration that means we are no longer slaves to sin and death, but instead are free to love and laugh in the light of the Lord. That is my opinion. Come and celebrate Lent and Easter with us. Learn how we too can say, Thy will be done, to God and how we can fulfill our call to follow Jesus. We will look forward to seeing you. 4 Christian Education Update Easter Egg Hunt Sunday, April 1 An egg hunt will be held after the Easter breakfast on Sunday, April 1. Children through grade 5 who wish to participate should gather in room 101 by 9:45 a.m. Bags will be provided for the egg hunt. Come early for the Easter breakfast and be ready to hunt for eggs at 9:45 a.m.! The CE team would appreciate donations of wrapped candy to fill the Easter eggs. If you would like to help, please put candy bags in the marked container in the narthex by Palm Sunday, March 25 th. Thank you! Mark your Calendar! Vacation Bible School July Vacation Bible School will be held the week of July 9-13, 6:30-8:30 pm., for ages 3 years to Grade 6. We will be using Cokesbury s Rolling River Rampage, which invites children on a white-water rafting adventure to experience God s wonder. Throughout the week, children will discover they can trust God to be with them through anything. Save the date for a fun week of storytelling, crafts, science, games, and music!
