1 FAITH UNITED METHODIST CHURCH LOVING GOD, SERVING OUR NEIGHBORS Phone: Website: tiffinfaith.org November Worship November 3 All Saints Sunday Sermon Inspired! Scriptures II Thessalonians 1:1-4, Luke 19:1-10 November 10 Sermon Running Red Lights Scriptures II Thessalonians 2:1-5, Psalm 145:1-5, November 17 Sermon Warning Signals Scriptures Isaiah 12 Luke 21:5-19 November 24 United Methodist Student Day Sermon Called to Finish Scriptures Luke 23:33-43 Colossians 1:11-20 Dear Friends, A father wanted to read a magazine but was being bothered by his little girl, Shelby. She wanted to know what the United States looked like. Finally, he tore a sheet out of his new magazine on which was printed the map of the country. Tearing it into small pieces, he gave it to Shelby, and said, "Go into the other room and see if you can put this together. This will show you our whole country today." After a few minutes, Shelby returned and handed him the map correctly fitted together. The father was surprised and asked how she had finished so quickly. "Oh," she said, "on the other side of the paper is a picture of Jesus. When I got all of Jesus back where He belonged, then our country just came together." This story reminded me that some times our lives get so busy, we feel pulled in so many ways, that our journey with God seems disjointed. Today it seems that chaos appears all around us. The world s gruesome images of ethnic cleansing, tortured bodies, and hungry masses. And every family is to some extent dysfunctional. God has called each of us to be in this time and place, living out of this chaos. The Bible tells us that God created all things from chaos. Maybe we need to do as little Shelby did, and put Jesus back where He belongs, in the center of our lives, and then our lives will come together. As we move toward Thanksgiving, may we discover that we indeed are God s work of art, created in Christ Jesus to: Glorify God live the good life manifest the God s power at work in the world through us. When we think of this world in which we live, let us be mindful that Jesus, the Holy One of God, lived in this same world and worked and smiled, and laid down his life for all of us saying thanks to God for it all. Oh, that we might be more like him. Shalom, Rev. Donna A GIFT TO Faith s endowment fund is a gift that will last forever.

2 The UMW will meet Saturday, November 9th at 10:00 a.m. at the church. Our program this month will center around the Thank Offering. All women of the church are invited. World Community Day will be celebrated November 1st at 1:30 p.m. at our church. We will be hosting and we invite all who are able to attend. During the month of November, we will be collecting for the Flood Buckets. The items that we need to complete the buckets are: One can of air freshener (aerosol or pump) One can of insect repellent spray (6-14 oz, aerosol or pump with protective cover) As always, we thank you for your generosity that enables us to help those in need. The Serve Team would also like to thank everyone who participated in the Operation Christmas Child Shoe Box Ministry. To date, we have received 100+ Shoe Boxes. Final totals will be in the December Newsletter. Two of our Missions for November are the Flat Rock Wish List Tree and the Basket of Love (Mittens, Gloves, Scarves, Hats & Socks). There will be ornament tags on the tree in the Narthex which have items requested by the residents at Flat Rock. We are asking, if you are able, to please take at least one tag and purchase the requested item. Please DO NOT WRAP your gift(s), but DO include the original tag with the gift so we know to whom it is going. Please note: Flat Rock will only accept new, unused items. There will also be a basket located in the Narthex in which to put your items for the Basket of Love. The items from this basket will be given to the Salvation Army and the Sharing Kitchen for distribution. Please note: The items for this basket need to be new, unused items. As always, thank you for your generosity. Your Stuff brought in $1,300! That s right- the Rummage sale was a great success thanks to all who cleared out your closets! The Workmission Team to Henderson greatly appreciates all who: Donated stuff Set up for the sale Worked the days of the sale Helped Karl in the kitchen with the Luncheon Made pies or jello salads for the lunch Cleaned up after the lunch Packed up after the sale! The wonderful part is that some of the clothing leftover went to A Little Faith Ministry s clothing bank, and the rest of the items went to the Humane Society s Rummage Sale. Praise be to God for all of you! 2

3 Sunday, November 24 th The Connect Team will again sponsor the annual Thanksgiving Dinner on November 24, The meal will be after the second service. We will cook the turkeys and make dressing, gravy, and mashed potatoes. We are asking for the donation of four (4) fifteen (15) pound turkeys to be at the church on November 12. Each family or individual is asked to bring their own table service and a covered to share. We will be looking for some help. We will need set-up help during the second service, servers during the meal, and a clean-up crew. Please watch the bulletin for opportunities to sign-up to help. Hope to see you there! November 24th after the Thanksgiving Dinner! While some are cleaning up after dinner, we invite others to help us decorate the church for Advent and Christmas. With many hands, the work will go quickly. If we have several people, the tree will be up in no time and the decorations around the church will be completed in a timely fashion. Coordinated by the Celebrate Team. Veterans Day Recognition November 10 We would like to honor our veterans by listing them in the bulletin on November 10 th. Please help us have an accurate list by filling out this form, and dropping it off in the office, or calling and giving us your information. Name: Staff Christmas Gifts Branch of Service: Sunday, December 8 th Once again, the SPRC is inviting you to be part of expressing our appreciation to the staff of this church through a love offering to be shared equally between the support staff. Those employees are: Chris, Jane and Adam Arnold, Custodians; Charlene Thomas, Secretary; Nancy Ferguson and Jan Foy, Organists; Greg Harkins, Youth Coordinator; Bonnie Scherger, Financial Secretary; and Woody Plank, Treasurer. Thanks for affirming their work for our church! Looking for Bell Information! The Trustees are asking for help from any of you who might have information on the Bell from the old Market Street Church. In going through the historical files, we discovered that: it is a very fine toned bell and was placed in the Washington Street Church large through the efforts of Richard Boyer. We also found an invoice for the moving of the bell by B.H. Baugher, Teaming & Hauley dated March 1 st According to the invoice, the 2000 pound bell was moved from the old church on Feb 26 th and took 10 hours, it was placed in the new church on Feb 27 th, and that also took 10 hours. We also found a picture of 6 men standing around the bell which is placed on a wooden sled. If you have more historical information on the bell, please let Laura O Millian or the office know. We are planning to put some type of plaque out by the bell that commemorates the fact that it has announced Church services in Tiffin since

5 Words of Thanks from The Landing Youth A few weeks ago, as a part of the Landing s 12 step program to overcome hurts, hang-ups and addictions, several Youth wrote the following words of thanks to our Church: Thank you for letting us use your space. I just want you to know that God works through this program and I'm thankful for it. So again thank you. From One of God's children. I just want to say thank you for letting us use the church every Wednesday night. Thank you for allowing the youth to use the church on Wednesdays for the Landing. Thanks to the Landing I am now cut free and have a real smile on my face. Also it is a place to eat and food is a good thing. Thank you for allowing us to use the church for the Landing. It is an amazing program that we are very privileged to be in. Thank you. Thank you so much for letting us use your church for the Landing. The Landing really helped me change to become the person I am today. I appreciate it every single day. Thank you for giving us a place to hang out and to fix our problems. Thank you for the church every week. What a wonderful ministry is happening on Wednesday nights at Faith! There are many opportunities for adults to become a part of this impact on our community. From cooking dinner, to driving bus, or leading small groups, if you feel God tugging at your heart to make a difference in these lives, please sign up, or talk with Greg Glover, Phyllis & Daniel Kinn, or Lindsay Tusing. From George L. Dupey: I want to thank all of you from Faith United Church for all of your prayers, cards, and phone calls during my recovery. A special thanks to Rev. Donna for her visits, calls, and prayers. From FISH of Tiffin: Dear Friends at Faith UMC: Fish of Tiffin, Inc. would like to thank you for your generous gifts of food items. We appreciate your gift and valuable support in helping our neighbors who find themselves in need at this time. From Joe Kidwell: "Thank you for thinking of me in prayer. I'm proud to be a member here with members that care for others." We Give Thanks Our Father in Heaven, We give thanks for the pleasure Of gathering together for this occasion. We give thanks for this food Prepared by loving hands. We give thanks for life, The freedom to enjoy it all And all other blessings. As we partake of this food, We pray for health and strength To carry on and try to live as You would have us. This we ask in the name of Christ, Our Heavenly Father. --Harry Jewell 5
