As most of you have heard, Bishop Hopkins will be appointing Rev. Jeff Lanzer to Faith effective July 1 st. He and his wife Carol view themselves as a ministry team. His profile states that his ministry issues from a solid, faithful, spiritually grounded center. He is covenantal in the United Methodist connection and of high character. His preaching is authentic and sincere, persuasive teaching style which is Biblically and theologically sound. His ministry gifts are: Administration, teaching, pastoral care, spirituality, shepherding, and encouragement. Your Staff Parish Relations Committee was very pleased with the interview they held with Jeff and Carol, and are anticipating a wonderful transition to their ministry here at Faith. Jeff and Carol have 3 children: Kara, Joshua, and Lauryn. Below is a picture of their family Kara and Joshua are married, and Lauryn will be graduating from High School this year. What a blessing to be able to welcome Rev. Lanzer and his family to Faith. May we continue to pray for Rev. Lanzer and his family in the closing time of his ministry at Belden, and in their move to Tiffin. How exciting to move into the future with expectant hope. Leaning into the Future with Hope, Rev. Donna Rev. Lanzer comes to us from Belden UMC and is a second career pastor. While he was working in architecture, God called him into ministry. He was ordained since 2002, and has serve 3 churches.
2 The U.M.W. would like to thank all who supported our Soup and Sandwich Luncheon. We made approximately $400 that will go toward our District Pledge and the many local groups that we help throughout the year. We would also like to remind everyone that U.M.W. Sunday will be April 27 and our guest speaker for both the 8:00 and 10:15 services will be Amanda Nicol from Flat Rock. Mark your calendar now for the All Daughters Banquet which will be Saturday, May 10 at noon. We are planning to have a Style Show in conjunction with Peebles Dept. Store and a delicious lunch including Chicken Croissant Sandwiches & Chips, Hot Dogs for the children who want them, Veggie Tray and Cupcakes. More information and tickets will be available next month SUMMER CAMPS Spring is almost here. That means summer isn t far behind. Time to think about camping. 4 Eco-Palms All palm fronds are not created equal. This year we will once again be handing out "ecologically friendly" palms for Palm Sunday. The idea is to ensure that impoverished workers and artisans receive fair pay for their labor and their artworks, instead of corporations taking a disproportionate bite out of the proceeds. Did you know that the coffee you enjoy each Sunday is also Fair Trade Coffee? Both Fair Trade Coffee and our Eco- Palms were ordered through United Methodist Committee on Relief. The benefits are threefold: The farmers who are in the poorer or Third World countries are being helped, the church is being helped, and we're being helped because we're going green." Fair trade is one way that we can live out our Lenten disciplines, expressing our gratitude for what Jesus did for us, and one of the ways we can do that is by caring for our neighbors. The ecopalms help us do that! Calling all online shoppers! Did you know that you can be donating while you shop? Amazon, Kohls, K-mart, Sears, Lowes, Bed & Bath, Hundreds of stores! There is a list at the site and what percentage each store will pay. It works like the Kroger rewards each store agrees to pay a percentage of your purchase to the church! How wonderful is that?!? You can start now- just go to and register choose Faith Tiffin as the organization and then you can start making a difference to our church through your shopping. Each time you want to shop online check into to see if your store of choice is listed if so, go through that link, and they will give the percentage to the church. Then as many of us shop this way, periodically the church will receive a check. Talk about being good stewards! Kroger Cards Do you have a Kroger Plus Card? Did you know that it could be giving money to the church? Each April we have to select the charity or organization we would like our money to go to. Just go to and register if you have not done so previously. Once registered, or if already registered, click on the Community tab, then choose Community Rewards and you can choose our church. Actually our church has 2 accounts: Type in Faithful Followers (account 81903) and you can choose for the money to go to that Sunday School class. They have had an account for years, and used their income to pay for the remodeling of the kitchen and various projects around the church. Or type in Faith United Methodist Church, (account and the money goes to the general budget. Either option is a great way to help out the church at no cost to you. Spackey Scholarship Established The Vision Team has established the Spackey Scholarship Fund to be available for High School Seniors who are members of Faith UMC. These funds will come from interest earned on the Spackey endowment. This a one time Scholarship and must be applied for the year of graduation from High School, however applicant may delay acceptance of the scholarship for two(2) years from the date of graduation. Applications are available through the High School Sunday School teachers. The Vision Team believes this is a positive way to honor Mr. Spackey who actively supported the work of missions and youth through the former Washington Street UMC. The Endowment Team is excited to oversee this expression of Mr. Spackey s interest in the youth of our church through this annual scholarship. Applications are to be received by the church on or before April 15 th of each year. 4
5 $5,700 Raised Children s Mission Fund in the past 5 years! How exciting to think of all the animals supplied through Heifer International these past years through our children bringing the coins up at Children s time. Each year as I compile the ballot, I look back so that we provide a variety. Over these years we have purchased goats, Heifers, Water Buffaloes, Llamas, Sheep, Rabiits, Ducks, Chicks, Geese, and this year we will add Honeybees, pigs, an orphanage, and a mission project in Oklahoma. We have also purchased anti- malaria nets, supported Seeds of Change ministry in Arkansas, Flat Rock Care Center, Horn of Africa mission, Fish Food Pantry and a Zoe House in Rwanda. Whew! God must be dancing just seeing all of the people who s lives have been improved because of our weekly gifts to missions! Congratulations young people (and all of those adults who give them money)! 2 Pigs $240 Pig gift donations are an excellent fit for some of the poorest families. Your donation supplies a pig for a family, & educate them 2014 Children s Mission Fund Ballot Total $1,043 in its care and feeding. Each donation of a pig: Produces as many as 16 piglets that can be sold for income Creates a steady supply of organic fertilizer, increasing crop yields A gift of a pig has the power to uplift entire communities. 2 Llamas $300 Will provide warmth with clothing and blankets made from dense, soft wool. Allow families to purchase medicine with the profits from wool sales. The gift of a llama means a child will finally get a chance at an education, thanks to the money earned from selling the wool. 2 HoneyBees $60 A honeybee gift donation includes a bee package, hive, box and training in beekeeping techniques. When you buy bees for a family in need, your gift: Boosts income through sales of honey, wax and pollen Stimulates growth of the family s crops through pollination Healthy beehives can double fruit and vegetable yields of small farms. Cookson Hills Center $183 Serving the last, the least and the lost This rural ministry serves a mostly Cherokee population in some of the poorest counties in Oklahoma with employment opportunities, substance abuse programs, ministries with senior citizens and a daycare service. It also operates a community garden and orchard and distributes seeds. Jalingo Orphanage Education $200 Home to 98 students, ranging in age from infant to 17 years old. The residents came from far eastern Nigeria. These orphans get three really good meals a day. They live in a family kind of atmosphere." The younger Jalingo residents attend school at the orphanage, while the older residents go to a junior secondary school nearby. This is a place where lives are really being changed." 3 Chicks $60 Each flock of chicks: Provides eggs and protein for nourishment Boosts income through sales of extra eggs and offspring Ensures security for generations. Chickens require little space and can thrive on readily available scraps; this allows families to make money from the birds without spending much. 5
