This was our biggest crowd ever! This month we have our Men s Breakfast at IHOP on September 7th, then we will be going to the Health and Senior Expo on September 14th. Our theme dinner this month will be FOOTBALL! All of your favorite game foods and tailgate treats on September 19th. Finally, we will make a trip to Homestead Hollow Arts and Crafts Festival on September 28th. I hope you will make a point to join us for one of these fun events this month. 2 Recent Events Supplies 4 Our Students (SOS) August For the first time last month, we asked our Regency family to donate school supplies to Jessie s Place. Jessie s Place is the women and children s shelter of the Jimmie Hale Mission ministries. This was our chance to get these children off on the right foot as school begins. And boy, did you respond! We collected lots of loose leaf paper, colors, markers, rulers, glue sticks, spiral notebooks, and backpacks! Thank you for your contributions! You are the greatest! Remember, in December we will collect mittens and gloves for the children. Staff Appreciation August In any job, an employee wants to know that he or she is valued and appreciated. Here at Regency, we do both! At various times throughout the year, our top-notch employees are rewarded for their exceptional service with a special treat. During August, Chris Blackerby and Chef Austin created, served, and delivered fruit smoothies! A HUGE thank you goes out to all the employees who go above and beyond the call of duty for our residents every day! 1 September 2018 Newsletter

3 New York, New York August Our theme meal for August was New York, New York! You were at the wrong place if when you heard Chef Austin was preparing a deli buffet and all you thought of was just a cold sandwich! How about hot braised beef brisket, French Dip Roast Beef, grilled Polish Sausage with onions and peppers, ham, turkey, various breads, sides, Peanut Butter Pie, New York Cheesecake, and Hello Dolly Bar just to mention a few items?! Our entertainment for the evening was Christy Vest, who performed show tunes. Great job everyone! Hope to see you at the next theme meal on September 19th for Football Kickoff. Celebrating Raymond Tanner August If you have lived at Regency for more than a week, you know Raymond. He s the soft spoken giant of a gentlemen who holds the door for you, an Alabama fan, a Chicken Foot Dominoes pro, loves his Lord and just an all-around good guy. August 2018 is Raymond s 19th year at Regency! He came here when the Homewood Church of Christ owned it and it was known as Victory Place. Regency is a better place because Raymond lives here. Birmingham Crossplex is our designation for a morning of free screenings, community resources, entertainment and door prizes. The bus leaves at 8:30 am and we will return for lunch. 5 Let s Go to The Movies September 7th & 24th Hop on the bus for two free movies. Patton Creek Theater: Unbroken: Path to Redemption The true story of Olympian and World War II hero Louis Zamperini. Hoover Library: Hail Caesar An all-star comedy set during the latter years of Hollywood s Golden Age. Football Kickoff September 19th September brings cooler days, Fall colors, and football! Our theme meal for the month will celebrate the football season. So wear your school colors if you have them. The evening meal begins at 5:00 pm in Somerset s Dining Room. Berkshire residents are invited. If you need a ride, the bus will depart Berkshire at 4:45 pm. Homestead Hollow Festival September 28th at 9:45 am We are headed to Springville to see wood carving, blacksmithing, honey making, wood stove cooking, and quilting. There will be beans n greens, fried pies, hot dogs, BBQ and funnel cakes. Or you can sit by a stream and enjoy the entertainment. There will be arts and crafts to view and buy. Lunch is on you. Departure is 9:45 am. Please sign up! Shop Til You Drop Besides Wal-Mart and taking you to your doctor appointments, Charles also makes several stops at various businesses during the month. For example, The Thrift Store, Publix, Dollar Tree, Target, and this month, Ollie s Bargain Outlet. If there is somewhere else you would like to go, please let Debbie or Charles know. 6 Community Spotlight Sara Barry Sara grew up in Walker County in a community called Pocahontas, which is near Jasper. She graduated from the University of Montevallo, where she studied Business Administration. For 30 years, Sara worked for the Department of Commerce. She traveled overseas for her job, where she participated in trade shows. Sara was a member of the Eastern Star and the United Methodist Church. She has enjoyed studying genealogy for a number of years. Welcome Sara! We are so glad you call Regency home! September Fun Facts This year s Harvest Moon occurs September 24th. 8 Thank You, for your outstanding service & care! Employee of the Year Linda Banks Linda Banks began her tenure at Regency as a volunteer in our Activities Department. Linda enjoyed her time with our residents so much she decided to join us as a part-time First Impressions team member. Linda has a quick laugh and a warm smile for all who meet her. She is dedicated to providing great service to our residents and guests. We are thrilled to have her as part of the Regency family. Thank you, Linda, for having a servant s heart and adding to the enjoyment of life at Regency. Congratulations on being named as our Regency Employee of the Year! Employee of the Month Janik Robinson Janik is relatively new to Regency. Each day, she serves our residents in the Reflections Unit. She was raised in Hooper City and went to school in Centerpoint. Janik is the oldest of six children. She is working on her goal of becoming a social worker. Janik says to be patient in your job. Thanks, Janik, for the great job you do daily!
