Beretania Street, Honolulu, Hawaii Volume XLV Issue 34 November 2015 Giving Thanks All are invited to a time of Giving Thanks on Saturday, November 28 at 5 p.m. Church members and friends are invited to share their talents food, desserts, music, song, dance. This informal event will celebrate all of God s blessings and help us to give thanks for the goodness of the Lord. The meal is potluck, and the talent show is being coordinated by Tupou Seini Kelemeni. Join us for a fun time with our church family! United Methodist Women United Methodist Women will be having their annual sale in Komuro Hall on Sunday, November 29 following the 10:00am service. Items for sale will be baked goods, books, white elephant, spam musubi, as well as Christmas items. Money raised will be used to support missions locally, nationally, and around the world. If you would like to donate any appropriate items, please bring them to the church office with a note to UMW or contact a United Methodist Woman. We appreciate everyone s help in this very worthwhile endeavor. 3 2015 FOCUS PARTY IN THE PARK was a great success! Over 150 guests were provided with food, gift bags, free clothing, medical clinic, and entertainment! It was a perfect church picnic. Donations and volunteers flowed in from area churches including Harris UMC, First Chinese Church of Christ, 1st Baptist, Central Union, Makiki Christian, and Voyager Church. Businesses also donated to the cause: Safeway, Goodwill, McDonald s, Rysku Printing, Subway and Phillip Li. Entertainment was provided by Kukui High School Alumni Band and the First UMC Youth and Young Adults. Rev. Lorenza Andrade Smith gave the blessing at lunch, and Rev. Dr. Se Hee Han, our new District Superintendent, helped serve lunch! It was a great time thanks to our Church & Society Committee! 4 2015 FOCUS A Picture is Worth A Thousand Words Abatement (hazardous material removal) has been completed in the sanctuary. In the process, they removed the wooden beams from the outside of the sanctuary. It revealed even more damage to the coral concrete columns than expected. Bids are being sought soon to repair them. Stay tuned! 4
