1 FOCUS a Newsletter of first United Methodist Church Making Disciples of Jesus Christ for the Transformation of the World 1020 S. Beretania Street, Honolulu, Hawaii Volume XLIII Issue 32 September 2015 Pastor s Page Our strategic goals for First United Methodist Church over the next 5 years is to GROW SPIR- ITUALLY and INCREASE ACTIVE INVOLVE- MENT. Two ideas from the retreat were put into place very quickly revising the 10 am worship liturgy and taking down the bushes that were covering our wall/gate to open up our church to the neighborhood. Pastor Linita and I are now focusing on small groups. We will be starting prayer groups, bible studies, and interests groups to encourage deep spiritual growth and continued connection with one another. Stay tuned for more information. We are also wanting to hear from you what gifts and interests do you have? Where do you feel called to serve? The Lay Leadership/ Nominations Committee will be meeting soon, but more important than filling slots is finding your passion for Jesus. Please fill out the enclosed survey and return to the offering plate or church office. With God s help we will grow spiritually and be actively involved in the amazing ministries of God s church!
