Our Student Council candidates presented their platforms to their fellow Middle School students this week.

2 "East Meets West" By Rabbi Avraham Glustein, Head of School This past Shabbat, Politz took the show on the road to the East Side of town. Our middle school Shabbaton was a smashing success and a true team effort. The students split their time between Chabad and Torah Links, with Tefillot and meals divided among the two synagogues. On Shabbat day, Rabbi Mangel spoke passionately about Jewish education from the Bimah and generously invited me to share the stage to continue rounding out the case for robust Jewish education. Across the road, Rabbi Serebrowski also spoke warmly about Politz and went out of his way to make our students feel at home with a beautiful gala Kiddush. As the theme of the Shabbaton was Israel, our B not Sherut, Yahel and Moriah, led a variety of games and activities that revolved around Israel. In addition, Rabbi Miller hosted a lively Tisch for Dec. 16: Report Cards Sent Home Dec. 19: Parent Teacher Conferences (NO SCHOOL) Dec. 23: Grandparents' Day (1pm dismissal) Dec. 26 Jan. 2: Winter Break We look forward to welcoming our the students. The festivities concluded with a fun bowling trip. The students were on a high with a renewed sense of achdut (togetherness) and middle school ruach (spirit). 4 The Wonderful World of History By Mr. Peter Ent, MS Social Studies Teacher As we head into the second trimester of the school year, there are many exciting things planned for our Middle School students. Sixth Grade is navigating through the Nile River, studying about all its geographic features, both dangerous and beautiful. Students are working as cartographers creating maps of Africa, with emphasis on the Nile River. Along with our study of Africa, students are working on honing their map skills. Currently, reading the scale on a map is the focus. The students are eager to learn and work hard in my class. Seventh Grade has just started a unit on explorers and finding the ever elusive path to the exotic lands of Asia. The students' focus is on understanding how the world is expanding through assimilation. They are also working as cartographers on a much larger scale. They are completing their world maps that will show major exploration routes. The class has just been paired up for a skit in which they will interview Christopher Columbus about his voyages to discover a new world. This is sure to be very informative and humorous! Eighth Grade has been very busy this last trimester studying the Presidential Election, preparing for a debate, and completing history unit work. The second trimester will be just as busy and challenging for the students. They have just finished preparing for their second debate and they are feeling more confident with their research and speaking abilities. The students are also finishing their fifth historical essay about December 7, 1941, and their essay skills are improving greatly. Finally, they have been working on their bills for Mini Model Congress, which are coming along nicely. When we go to Trenton in the spring, the students will be ready to debate their Bills with confidence.

5 Confessions of a "Mystery Reader" This week, first grade received a special visit from "mystery reader," Mrs. Shira Baratz. Says Mrs. Baratz, "I just had the best time being the mystery reader for Dovid's class. The children sat so attentively and were such a joy to read for. What a treat! I also want to give kudos to Mrs. Cohen for involving parents in her classroom in this way." We look forward to hosting more surprise guests throughout the year. Middot Moment... This week's high scoring class is Second Grade, with 67 buttons! First Grade had 64 buttons, Third Grade had 35 buttons and Fourth Grade had 39 buttons. Keep up the great work! We are proud to announce Karla Mellul as the December Girl s recipient of the Sunshine Club s Mensch of the Month award. Karla is a very caring, friendly member of Politz's fourth grade class. The Sunshine Club reports that she is very inclusive and respectful of younger students. Mazel tov, Karla!
