One of the wonders of the modern age is that no matter where we are we have access to all the knowledge of the world at our fingertips through the internet. So as we look forward to the summer here are some great Jewish websites to keep in touch with the Jewish world on our travels. Our congregation is a merger of Reform and Conservative congregations and is a member of the Union for Reform Judaism (URJ) so we can start with websites that connect to those movements. The Union for Reform Judaism can be found at URJ.org and reformjudaism.org and the Conservative movement is at USCJ.org. Both sites give lots of information for what is happening in the movements and provide weekly Torah commentary. For those interested in a good website from an Orthodox background you can t do better than the website of Rabbi Jonathan Sacks, former Chief Rabbi of Great Britain whose extensive and thoughtful commentary on all things Jewish can be found at Rabbisacks.org. For general Jewish information and learning you can go to MyjewishLearning.com or Jewishvirtuallibrary.org. Both provide excellent general resources and unlike Wikipedia they are both well sourced so you can see where the information came from. Just enter in your query on any subject from Abraham to Zachariah and anything in between and you will surely find an answer to your question. For anyone wanting to know what is going on in the Jewish calendar Hebcal.com is the place to go. The site allows you to check the Hebrew date, the Torah and Haftarah portion, festivals and many other aspects of the Jewish calendar that you might want to know about for any particular date. And for Jewish texts there is no better pace on the web than sefaria.org where you can find Jewish texts of all sorts from Torah to kabbalah, to Jewish philosophy in Hebrew and English. If you are in need of a Jewish ritual on the fly you can go to Ritualwell.org where you will find prayers and ritual for pretty much any occasion you can imagine. For those looking to add a little Jewishness to their kids summer, Kveller.com is a great website for Jewish parenting. And no matter where you are in the world you can follow along with Jewish news and views on sevral good news websites. For general news there is JTA.org and Forward.com and for Israel news there is TimesofIsrael.com, Haaretz.com and Jerusalem Post (Jpost.com). 3 Time goes so quickly when we stay busy It s been a very busy month for us and we still have events and activities to look forward to at the end of May. ONE of the Highlights of the month of May was our Always Andy musical program at our Temple on May 21. Andy was in our CBI High Holidays Choir for quite a few years, along with being in many productions at the Harbor Playhouse. It was a wonderful event and 125 people enjoyed the afternoon program. We were so enthralled & entertained by the musical talent right in our own Temple. Rabbi Emanuel was our Star. He, and we, enjoyed every note of music presented to us by Kim and Laurie Bryce, David Hines, Flicka Rahn, and Ilan Emanuel. We presented donations of almost $1800 to the Harbor Playhouse to fund summer camp workshops in honor/ memory of Andy Moore. It was a great outreach into the community at large and greatly appreciated by many who were close to Andy and his wife, Brucie. Our New Member Shabbat, on Friday, April 28, was widely attended by about 12 of our new member families, along with a large attendance of our members. We introduced all of the new members, presented them with a welcome to our family gift, and then had a delicious dinner. It was such fun and we enjoy having new people in our community and our Temple. Welcome the new members and our visitors, and when you see someone you don t know, stop and say hello. Havdalah with the Hooks was another fun event. George Kopf put that program together. We met at Brewster Street Restaurant for a no host dinner and then walked over to the Hooks Field together and watched a great game. Such a fun evening.perfect weather, great friends, and lots of fun.by the way, who won??? Most of us were so busy talking, laughing, and eating, we didn t see much of the game. Full month coming up.beginning with Mira Emanuel s Bat Mitzvah. We ll be there cooking, and decorating, and enjoying all of the Emanuel s relatives that are coming from across the country and grandparents from England. We love celebrations like this one.happy times are best of all, aren t they? I m sure there s a calendar of upcoming events, but be sure you plan to attend the CONGREGATION DINNER on Wednesday, June 28, at 6 p.m. David Jacobs is preparing gourmet burgers and other delightful dishes for us to enjoy We ll be installing a new slate of officers for the Temple and we need to give them our support. See you there. BTW.events that I have talked about don t just happen.we have people who chair them, bake, come early and set up, help clean up, and many other helpful jobs. I can t name all of you, but a jillion thanks to Suzy Hilliard and a dedicated group of men and women for always showing up, chairing events, filling in gaps, and helping out in so many ways. Also, a couple of pictures attached on some important repairs we are doing at the Temple. We had a leaky roof a time ago, and have started fixing it. If you recall, our 2016 High Holiday funds were designated for general repairs to our building. Thank goodness for that!! We are using those funds for repairs. 4 Corpus Christi Community Religious School Meredith Ryan & Manuela Sela, Directors Religious School has come to an end for the school year. We have a fantastic group of teachers and we hope that you will let them know what a great job they are doing. Manuela will be your Religious School Director next year. I am sad to leave my post but have truly enjoyed my time with the Religious School. Have a wonderful summer and don t forget to practice your Hebrew and continue to enhance your religious education at home and at Temple. Look for registration and Religious School information over the summer. Enjoy your break! A Big thank you to all the teachers who made this day a great and educational day. End of the year pool party was a great success and the weather was great! Mira Emanuel s Bat mitzvah is coming in June. Ill hope to see you at the service where Mira is participating and reading out of the Torah. There is no religious/ Hebrew school in the Months, June, July and August. We have some great things on the calendar for next school year. Have a great summer and enjoy your time of from school. 6 CBI Sisterhood News Summer is quickly approaching!! A new slate is coming into our Sisterhood! We, Odelia Rios and Manuela Sela, would like to take this time to say Thank You on this wonderful opportunity in taking over the baton from Jerri as the new Sisterhood Co-Presidents for the upcoming year! We would like to thank Jerri for all her hard work and everything she has done for the sisterhood and we are honored to work with you all. More information will follow, but below are two scheduled events we are planning already. Our Annual Sisterhood Kickoff Party will be in August. As the time comes closer we will have more specifics. Mira Emanuel will be called to the Torah as a Bat Mitzvah on June 3rd! We are so proud of her! We will be baking for Mira s Oneg and we could use some help. It would be greatly appreciated! 7 Family Shabbat Dinner Shalom Y'All, Our Mexican-themed Family Shabbat Dinner last month was so much fun bringing in Shabbat together and enjoying our yummy Taco Bar too! The bountiful desserts topped off our end-of-year dinner, and I want to thank everyone for attending. It's hard to believe this completes my 6 th year planning and preparing meals for our congregation, and it warms my heart that you love my cooking! I want to thank everyone who gave their time to help me this season ~~ Linda, Suzy & Rose as well as Sue Williams, Linda Snider, Venita Crow, Odelia & Love Rios. Thank you ladies for your help and expertise, in and out of the kitchen, to make these Family Shabbat Dinners delicious and successful!
