THE SHABBAT VERSION OF THE TEN COMMANDMENTS 1. I am the Shabbat that takes you out of the bondage of lowly pursuits into the realm of life s highest values. 2. Thou shall have no other appointments on Friday evenings but home and synagogue. 3. Thou shall not take the name of the Shabbat in vain. Thou shall avoid all card-playing, movie attendance and other weekday ` pursuits. 4. Remember the Shabbat and keep it holy through worship and cultural pursuits. 5. Honor the faith of your father and mother by attending services with unfailing regularity. 6. Thou shall not kill the Shabbat spirit by following secular activities on the Shabbat. 7. Thou shall not be unfaithful to Jewish home life by banishing the Shabbat candles and Kiddush from your home. 8. Thou shall not steal from the precious hours that belong to the synagogue and Judaism for unworthy, unspiritual pursuits. 9. Thou shall not bear false witness against the Jewish people by showing irreverence and unconcern for Shabbat. 10. Thou shall not covet the pastimes of pleasure-seekers who live as if Judaism has no meaning for the modern world FAST OF GEDALIAH OBSERVED LABOR DAY S E P T ELUL TISHRI SUN MON TUES WED THURS FRI SAT elul 13 elul Maj & Mingle 10-12pm Flea Mkt. 10am-4pm elul 20 elul Sisterhood Brunch 10am elul 27 elul tishri 5 tishri Sukkah Raising 1 6 elul Officer s Meeting Sisterhood Brd. Our Selichot services and installation of officers will be held on September 20, 2014 (please attend, I like seeing your smiling faces). High Holidays begin with Rosh Hashannah on September 24th and Yom Kippur is on October 3rd and 4th. TICKETS ARE AVAILABLE, call the office. We would like to see you and your family. Madison is not perfect, we continue to strive for improvements in our programs. Your ideas are helpful, come to the meetings. The Annual Yizkor appeal is an important part of the process, your pledge is a major source of funding for improving technology, innovating new programs and most importantly keeping our Hebrew school. It keeps our doors open. Please donate what you can, every dollar helps. The committees have prepared new programs and refined some old ones. We are always in need of new ideas and help, so come to meetings and participate. Fresh minds and ideas will help us grow, be stronger, wiser and wealthier. Check the message for all the upcoming events and listings. Adult education classes are informal, no tests and fun to attend. YES, we had Shabbat services and minyons throughout the summer. I would like to thank the Madisonites who attended services regularly. We hope to continue to be as successful in the future. I look forward to seeing you. A Yasher Koach to all who volunteered for a D var Torah that made the Shabbat service meaningful. Thank you David Abels for your leadership and ability to set up the program. GREAT JOB BY ALL. Two of our members have asked me to insert the following questions: 1. What can your synagogue (MJC) do for you? 2. What can you do for your synagogue (MJC)? You can give the answers to Judy Posniack or Michael Sosin in person or call or Judy (jposniack@aol.com) or If you are in the mood for a little exercise and a good cause, then walk with the Posniacks and the Madisonites and others on the Alzheimers Walk on September 27th. Healthy and Happy 5775 and years to come. See you at services. SUPPORT MADISON JEWISH CENTER! SHALOM, Richard
