1 Tiferes Today VOLUME 3 ISSUEI 2 NOVEMBER 11, 2011 חשון תשע ב י ד T i f e r e s students and teachers were once again honoured to hear Rabbi Yerachmiel Milstein address.לכבוד שבת the school at Rabbi Milstein is a senior lecturer for Discovery Productions and is the Executive Vice President of Project Chazon, which presents preventative workshops to reduce at-risk behavior in over 365 high schools across North America and Canada. Rabbi Milstein showed us how we can learn many lessons from אברהם אבינו in.פרשת לך לך The words of לך,ה',לך tell us that what Hashem asks - לטובתך from each of us is Even when something is difficult, we should remember that it is for our benefit, as we know Hashem does not need anything from us. מארצך וממולדתך ומבית אביך to leave his אברהם tells ה' - country, city and home. We can learn a lesson from this to be careful of our surroundings and influences and always remember that we are different. - אל הארץ אשר אראך Perhaps the key lesson learned is that after we ve done our,השתדלות the rest is up to.ה' He will show us where we re headed and our job is to have בטחון that it is.לטובתך ולהנאתך A YOM IYUN to commemorate KRISTALLNACHT was held this past week. Students were divided into teacher-led groups> They discussed pre-war Europe and were asked to to draw how they imagined Jewish life might have looked before World War II. Girls drew pictures depicting every day life, how שמחות were held and how schools, homes and cities looked. The goal of the session was to further appreciate the contrast of life before and after the war and how quickly everything changed. 2 2 A S IMCHAS B AIS HASHOEVA for our students was held at the home of 12th grader, Shira Spitzer. Over 60 students gathered to hear from graduate, Elliesheva Selevan ( 09). ACTIVITY PERIOD has begun. Every Tuesday, girls attend workshops led by women of our community. Some of the classes offered this session are Cake Decorating, Yoga, Felting, Make-up Application, Food Garnishing, Vocals, and Dance. This year s CHESSED JOB ORDINATORS, Miri Morris CO-ORDINATORSORDINATORS OB and Shira Spitzer, have networked with city organizations to find chessed opportunities for our students. Some of these jobs include: mothers helpers, tutors, volunteers at D.A.N.I., drivers for Tomchei Shabbos, among others. The FRIENDSHIP CIRCLE ORIENTATION was held to train new volunteers, who will be working with children with special n e e d s weekly. Our MISHEMERES program continues to provide girls with daily opportunities to practice their הלשון.שמירת The לפי מחסום is observed daily at הלכות 11:00 am and girls learn every night. A recent לשון הרע LUNCH & LEARNL EARN, run by Misheres Heads Elisheva Bahar and Rachel Bressler, addressed the way we speak to people we feel closest to. Our PEER TUTORING GROUPS continue to help fellow students acclimate to the increased work- load of high school. Thank you to our Special Ed Department, Mrs. Shayna Friedman and Mrs. Lynn Lichtenstein, for creating this program, and to our volunteers for giving up their personal time. You can contact her at (647) CAREER DAY - Students of Grade 10 spent M o n d a y, November 7th visiting various places of work as part of their Careers course. Some of the professionals our students shadowed Dentists, Engineers, Bakers, Social Workers, Doctors, Veterinarians, University Professors, and Chocolate Makers. 3 3 The Succos Poster sale was a great success and the FUNDRAISING COMMITTEE continues its efforts to raise funds for a fabulous graduation trip. FOR WOMEN & GIRLS will be held Motzei Our YEARBOOK editors continue their efforts to create a colourful keepsake of their senior year. YEARBOOK PHOTOS took place on Thursday, October 6th, with Mani Melnick Photography. The girls are busy raising money for the yearbook by selling ads. You can help too! All parents, family and friends are invited to PURCHASE A YEARBOOK AD to honour their graduate. The SENIOR SWEATSHIRTS are on the way! Thanks to our designers for their hard work and to the entire class for your suggestions. 14th, Grade 12 parents are invited to an INFORMATION NIGHT, on Monday November 14th where they will receive valuable advice about the seminary and university application process. This week, Rabbi Fix of Tomer Devorah, Rabbi Kurland of Darchei Bina and Mrs. Osnat Nemetz of Stern College spoke to the senior class. Several representatives of seminaries will visit Tiferes in the coming weeks to address the seniors about their schools.
