1 Tiferes Today VOLUME 2 ISSUEI 2 OCTOBER 22, 2010 ן ע א י ד Professor Stefan Reif, Founder/ Director of the Taylor-Schechter Genizah Research Unit and Project Consultant, Cambridge University Library, addressed some of the Chumash Kvutzot last week. Dr. Reif spoke about the origins of the siddur and how we account for the different. Thanks to Mr. & Mrs. Dov and Nancy Friedberg, and to the Friedberg Genizah Project, for arranging this speaker. A school assembly was held this week to commemorate the YAHRTZEIT OF ROCHEL IMAINU,. ל The girls heard from Rabbi Feigenbaum and Mrs. Ribacoff about the strength of Rochel Imainu and the ways we can emulate her. 2 2 Our BACK ACK TO PRESCHOOL theme continues this month. Titled Colours -, s focus will be on appreciating the beauty of the world that ' has given us. ACTIVITY PERIOD sessions have begun. Taught by women from around the community, each class provides a creative break from the busy school week. Thank you to our instructors: Miss Naomi Callan - Djembe Drum Mrs. Itka Dalfen - Improv/Drama Mrs. Barbie Dukes - Pilates Mrs. Chaya Finkelstein - Woodworking Mrs. Shaindy Goldberg - Makeup Application Mrs. Rivky Nadoff - Baking Mrs. Sara Plonka - Knitting Ms. Irina Rozenberg - Dance Ms. Ranya Sapirman - Food Garnishing Mrs. Susie Weitz - Jewellery Making MISHMERES NIGHTLY LEARNING has begun. Each night, girls learn the halachos of which can earn them an added 5% on any test at the end of the month. This year s CHESSED OMMITTEE continues to find COMMITTEE chessed opportunities for our students. One new initative, started with the help of Mrs. Rivky Coffer, is the Chai Lifeline Respite, which provides a much needed break for families. Every Wednesday, Tiferes students run programs and activities for children living with disabilities and illness. COFFEE-PIZZA SHOP is held every Wednesday night. Organized by Mrs. Rivky Coffer, Rochel Mindy Axelrod, Blima Ehrentrau and Devorah Kurtz, the program pairs high school girls with young women from the community to learn ת ר ח. Our new PEER EER TUTORING GROUPS continue to offer support to students who are still adjusting to the challenges of high school. Our seniors working with their fellow students during their spares and breaks. Thank you to our Special Ed Department, Mrs. Shayna Friedman and Mrs. Lynn Lichtenstein, for their support and guidance. This year s SIMCHAS BEIS ASHOEVA was a great HASHOEVA EIS success. Thank you to Mrs. Daliah Appelrouth for her inspiring talk about. Homemade treats, a kumsitz and dancing made this evening enjoyable for all who attended. We extend our to the Weinberg family for opening their home and for this event.

3 3 The Succos Poster sale was a great success and the FUNDRAISING COMMITTEE continues its efforts to raise funds for fabulous graduation trip. SPC Cards and Pizza Fridays are just two ongoing programs - stay tuned for more exciting opportunities. Hold The Date: The DESSERT RECEPTION FOR WOMEN & GIRLS will be held Motzei Shabbos, December 18th. Stay tuned for further details. YEARBOOK PHOTOS took place last Tuesday with Mani Melnick Photography, and the girls continue to sell ads to offset the costs of this tremendous project. You can help too! All parents, family & friends are invited to PURCHASE A YEARBOOK AD to honour their graduate. The SENIOR SWEATSHIRTS are on the way! Thanks to our fundraising committee and our designers for their hard work, and to the entire class for your suggestions. Grade 12 parents and students are invited to a GRADE 12 INFORMATION NIGHT, Tuesday November 16th 16th, where they will receive valuable advice about the seminary and university application process. Representatives from several seminaries will visit Tiferes to address the seniors about their schools.
