Eighty per cent of persons with disabilities live in developing countries, according to the UN Development Program (UNDP). HHRD helps these children rehabilitate by utilizing holistic and comprehensive approaches. Helping Hand for Relief & Development is currently supporting 400 children throughout different areas in Pakistan. Each child is medically and educationally assessed in order to determine the services and treatment needed. Fortunately with enough intervention from HHRD, the government of Pakistan has issued Disability Certificates to our children providing them with a number of benefits.these benefits include: discounts in transportation ; free medical treatment from Government hospitals; employment quotas in private and government sectors Currently, over 163 children have been fully sponsored through the help of our gracious donors. The World Bank estimates that 20 per cent of the world s poorest people are disabled. For as little as $60/month, a child with disabilities will be able to receive the necessary treatments and aid for recovery. 12 Hidaya Foundation West Africa Ebola Crisis The most widespread epidemic of the Ebola Virus in history is currently going on in the West African countries of Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia. Many other cases have been reported in other countries from people traveling from West Africa to those regions, but thankfully, so far all have been isolated and contained before the virus was able to spread. Thousands have died from the current outbreak and millions more are at high risk as the fatality rate of those who contract the virus is currently over 70%. Governments and humanitarian organizations are struggling to contain it and treat the sick while symptoms are in the early stages - which is crucial, as the disease is highly deadly once it gets to later stages. Hidaya Foundation is partnering with local organizations on the ground and will be providing medicines, food, and other necessary supplies to help with the containment efforts and treating the sick.
