Basker Musician Schedule: April 21 - April 22 Ken's Kaleidoscope April 15, 2018 I am very grateful for the many liturgical ministers who assisted in the liturgies of Holy Week -- musicians, servers, the art & environment crew, sacristans, ushers, lectors and minsters of Holy Communion, in addi on to our always hard-working parish staff. Many of the volunteers did double- and triple-duty, which was so helpful due to the absence of many people enjoying spring break! Thanks to all of you for your generous offering of me. We are excited about the launch of our new parish website a er Easter. We waited un l April 2 so that people would not think it was an April Fool joke. Many, many hours were devoted to crea ng the new website, especially by staffer Kendra Stampor and parishioner Deb Dozeman, assisted by staffers Julie Walen and Gary Townsend (photographs). Lots of parishioners contributed texts and photos through the parish evalua on process last year. The funds for crea ng our new website were provide through a generous grant to our diocese which allows all parishes to upgrade or design their website at no cost to us (which saved us several thousand dollars). In the coming weeks, we ll be unveiling some exci ng news for the parish. The announcements will take place in a series of videos for the rest of the Easter season through Pentecost, and repeated in the bulle n and on the new website the following week. This coming week I will be away for a few days in Chicago at the Equity Summit sponsored by Policy Link. I am par cipa ng as a representa ve of the Kellogg Na onal Fellows Alliance to which I belong a er having been a Kellogg Na onal Leadership Fellow back in the 80 s (they s ll keep us ac vely engaged). I con nue to par cipate in the Preaching Academy hosted by the University of Notre Dame in order to improve my homilies. We are encouraged to solicit feedback from the people in the pews so for several weeks I will have cards available in the pews for you to fill out anonymously a er I have preached at that mass; then you simply drop it into the collec on basket. This request only pertains to me, Fr. Ken, and not the other parish priests. Thank you. April is designated as Child Abuse Preven on Month. I am very aware through my work in the Trauma Recovery Program about the long-term devasta ng effects of abuse and neglect that occurs in childhood. The Program is a special offering by the Diocese of Kalamazoo to all survivors of such trauma, and morning and evening groups meet each year in the fall or spring for 10 sessions. You may call if you are interested. Other resources you can use this month can be found at preventchildabuse.org and americanspcc.org. 5:30 pm Cantor 7:30 am Cantor 9:00 am Cantor 11:00 am Choir 5:00 pm Life Teen Band

3 St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church PAGE 3 Portage, MI RCIA & Adult Faith Forma on Jay Landry jlandry@stcatherinesiena.org The Priestly Office of Our Bap sm This Easter Season, I'd like to share with you the three offices of our bap smal priesthood that flow from the priesthood of Jesus Christ, beginning with the office of priest. As Lumen Gen um, from Va can II, boldly states, The laity by bap sm are incorporated into Christ, are placed in the People of God, and in their own way share in the priestly, prophe c, and kingly office of Christ, and to the best of their ability, carry on the mission of the whole Chris an people in the Church and the world. Bap sm is a way of life! A priest is a mediator between God and humanity who calls us to live in right rela onship with God, each other, and crea on. Chris an ritual, sacrament, and prayer at home, church, and in the world form us to live priestly, holy lives like Jesus. How? By allowing the Spirit of Jesus to shape our hearts and ac ons, so that in all things, we glorify God, to make God known, loved, and served. As St. Paul calls us in Romans 12:1, " offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God, your spiritual worship." The goal of the priestly office of our bap sm is discipleship that radiates the presence of Jesus, so that we might imitate Jesus in all parts of our lives, announcing that "God is love" (1 John 4:16). As 1 John 1:1-4 proclaims, What was from the beginning, what we have heard, what we have seen with our eyes, what we looked upon and touched with our hands concerns the Word of life; or the life was made visible; we have seen it and tes fy to it and proclaim to you the eternal life that was with the Father and was made visible to us. What we have seen and heard, we proclaim now to you, so that you too may have fellowship with us; for our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ. We are wri ng this so that our joy may be complete. ELECTRONIC GIVING IS POSSIBLE - AND EASY!! Save me and paper by enrolling in electronic giving. All of our systems are safe, secure, and confiden- al. You set the amount and frequency. Forms are on our website (h p://stcatherinesiena.org/ dona on-opportuni es/ach-form/). For more informa on, please contact Linda Reaume at or lreaume@stcatherinesiena.org. We are s ll accep ng your D&W and Family Fare receipts to help our St. Vincent De Paul with hea ng and housing assistance. Simply drop your receipt off in a collec on basket. In recogni on of April as Na onal Child Abuse Preven on Month, Bishop Bradley will celebrate a Mass of Healing for vic ms and survivors of child abuse on April 17 at the 12:10 pm Mass at St. Augus ne Cathedral. Please contact Marina Hentz, with any ques ons at (269) or mhentz@diokzoo.org. In living the priestly office of our bap sm at home, work, church, play and rest, we proclaim by our lives that we are a holy people consecrated to God in bap sm. We announce God's love to all people by our witness. As St. Francis of Assisi exhorted his followers, "Go out, preach the Gospel, telling everyone about the amazing love of God the Father in the life, death, and resurrec on of Jesus Christ. And, if necessary, only if necessary, use words." May living the priestly office of our bap sm lead you to abundant life and joy.
