If you haven t registered your children and grandchildren yet, now is the time! Join us Sunday, July 15 Thursday, July 19 th from 6:30pm until 8:15pm where kids discover that everything is possible with God! Sky is filled with incredible Bible-learning experiences kids see, hear, touch, and even taste! Sciency-Fun Gizmos, team-building games, cool Bible songs, and tasty treats are just a few of the Sky activities that help faith flow into real life. Plus, we ll help kids discover how to see evidence of God in everyday life something we call God Sightings. Parents, grandparents, and friends are invited to join us in First-Class Seating section each day at 8:05pm in the sanctuary because that s when we ll be having Fly Away Finale a daily celebration of God s love you won t want to miss. You may register your child(ren) at or pick up a registration form at the Welcome Center and put it in the box in the office. 2 PRESCHOOL NEWS God created the Earth and the Universe. The school year at Messiah Preschool begins with the story of creation. The children see God s marvelous works everywhere in nature. Summer is the perfect time for you as a family to explore the out-of-doors with your child and talk about the great world that God has made. He made each blade of grass, each beautiful butterfly, the song of the birds, the sunshine and the clouds, the water for our sprinklers He made everything we see or hear in nature. This summer you may be going to the lake, to the park, to the zoo, to a farmers market, to your cabin, or maybe just your back yard. Take these opportunities to talk to your children about what God has made and thank Him for it. Thank Him for the seasons too. God gave us all the beautiful things in nature but the best gift of all was His Son, Jesus, who paid the price for our sins and rose again that we might one day join Him in heaven. The children in preschool will learn about Jesus throughout the school year. They will marvel at what He has done. They will explore the world around them. Messiah Preschool is a wonderful place for children to learn about God and to prepare for kindergarten. If you have not yet registered your child for the school year, it is not too late. Registration forms are available online or in the church office. I hope to hear from you. STEPHEN MINISTRY Do you need someone to listen to your concerns and to physically be with you through your challenging times? God provides Stephen Ministers to act as our golden parachutes. So when you feel like you ve been pushed out of an airplane, and you don t know where or how you re going to land; a Stephen Minister can help you glide to a safe landing in a peaceful place. All you need to do is ask for one. It is as easy as filling out a request on-line or on a card found in the pew rack. You can also contact the church office. 2 THE MESSIAH JULY NEWSLETTER Show your Minnesota Nice to the Kollmanns: There will be a book available for signing, to offer them your well-wishes and your words of wisdom about living in Minnesota. The book will be by the Welcome Center after all services on July 8, 15, and 22. It will be given to the Kollmanns at the reception following the Installation Service of Pastor Chris as Associate Pastor on July 22. If you aren t in town to sign the book you can mail (or bring in) your well -wishes to the office on a piece of paper and it will be added to the book. If you prefer you can them to Betty Delano at e.delano@comcast.net and it will be printed and included. The Kollmanns are new to Minnesota and have lots to learn about what there is here to enjoy, how we deal with the things we don t enjoy, the many places to see, things to do, places to eat, fun facts, local sayings etc. Share your insights, your ideas, even your Ole and Lena jokes! Minnesota is a great place to live, dontcha know! You betcha!

6 BLOOD DRIVE TUESDAY, JULY 10 th 2:00 7:00 P.M. It is not too late to sign up for an appointment time to donate blood at our July 10 th Red Cross Blood Drive. You can sign up on line at Redcrossblood.org or by calling Kay Kinzie at Or you can just come and you will be taken as soon as possible. If anyone has forgotten the time that they signed for or needs to cancel, call Kay at up until the day of the Drive. If you need to call on that day (July 13 th ) please call the church office and they will get the message to Kay. Thank you! MESSIAH PRAYER SHAWL MINISTRY The Messiah Prayer Shawl Ministry is off to a great start. Over 20 beautiful knitted or crocheted shawls have been made to date and donated to this ministry plus tied blankets for children, chemo hats and gadget bags (for walkers or hospital beds.) Many have already been distributed to individuals. If you know of someone that you think would be comforted by one of these, please contact the church office, Dayle Boyce or Linda Schwanbeck. All receive a special pastoral blessing before being distributed and completed shawls receive a cross and angel charm. There is no charge this is a gift outreach. Just fill out the yellow slip in the bag and attach it to the clipboard. If you would like to be a part of this ministry we have directions for making all of these in the church office. All are kept in a cabinet in the first room to the right as you enter the offices. Please feel free to contact Dayle or Linda if you have any other questions. WOMEN OF MESSIAH Serving the Lord with Gladness We hope everyone is having an enjoyable summer! While there are no WOM meetings during summer, we hope everyone is working on their contributions to the Bazaar. Its difficult to think about the Bazaar right now, but it is only 4 months until November 3 rd the big day. Watch for workshops which are held downstairs in the big Sunday School room near the maintenance and storage room at Messiah. There are notices in the Sunday News and Notes of the days and times when they will happen. Even if you can t make it to workshops, please be working on crafts, sewing, knitting, gardening, canning, and any other crafts or contributions you can make to the Bazaar. If you have a suggestion for a recipient of the Bazaar proceeds pick up a form in the church office, fill it out, and return it by the first of September as we will vote on where the proceeds go at the September 11 th WOM meeting. SPECIAL THANKS to everyone who has helped out in the office during June answering phones, working on the computer, addressing envelopes, assembling the Sunday Bulletins and Newsletter, putting labels on our mailings and getting to know the members of Messiah. We very much appreciate each one of you. The need for volunteer help continues to be an important part of Messiah. 7 XYZ Steak Fry July 31 Peggy and Richard Diehl have offered their beautiful home in Lino Lakes for the July 31st Steak Fry. Since residential parking Is always a problem, we will meet at church at 3:30 to carpool. If you choose to go directly to Diehl s, the time is 4:00 p.m. ZYZ ers are retired or nearly retired folks from Messiah who are committed to getting to know each other better. Whether singles or couples, new members or folks who have been members forever, our aim is to use interesting activities to build community. Peg and Rich will provide the location and activities. Drinks will be provided. Bring something to grill (it doesn t have to be steak) and a dish to pass. There will be a sign up sheet in the usual place, which will help us plan. Plan on attending and bring a friend. If there are any questions, talk to Lee or Aneita Hitzeman or Wayne or Helen Leverkuhn. THANKS! 8 8 Please join us in prayer each day- that God would be the Lord of our nation. ( Psalm 33:12) God and Father of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in whose name we pray. You are Holy, You are just, You are all knowing, all wise and all powerful. Nothing is too hard for you. You reign, Sovereign Lord! Because your word promises the following: Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord (Psalm 33:12.) AND because our nation is far from you and your ways; we ask you to search us, O Lord, and know our hearts, test us, and know our anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in us and lead us in the way everlasting. (Psalm 139:23-24 NIV ) We are challenged by your word and therefore confess our sins knowing that you are faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. ( I John 1:9) Your word says that if we lack wisdom, to ask for it. (James 1:5-6.) We ask for Godly leaders who desire and seek your wisdom. We pray that you guide them and give guidance and courage to follow your ways. Thank you Lord, for the men and women who have stepped up to sacrifice in so many ways for our freedom. Thank you for all who speak forth your truth and take a stand for justice, who love mercy and walk humbly before you. (Micah 6:8) Lord God, your word says that if your people, who are called by your name, will humble themselves and pray and seek your face and turn from their wicked ways, then you will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. (11 Chronicles 7:14) Great is Your Faithfulness, Oh God my Father! Our hope and expectation is from you! Thy will be done in Jesus name Amen. Our next meeting will be Friday, July 13 at 1:00 pm in the Fireside Room. Who should come? Cancer patients, care givers, cancer survivors and anyone with a heart for people who are experiencing cancer are welcome. It is a time of sharing, support and collecting information on any new resources that are available. Also, remember we have Prayer Shawls, chemo hats and gadget bags available in the church office for anyone you think would be comforted by one of these. There is no charge this is a gift outreach. If you have any other questions feel free to contact Dayle Boyce or Linda Schwanbeck. STEWARDSHIP Does God Need the Steward s Gifts? No! God says, I have no need of a bull from your stall or of goats from your pens, for every animal of the forest is mine, and the cattle on a thousand hills...for the world is mine, and all that is in it (Psalm 50:9-12). There is nothing we can give God, for He owns it all. He created it, He sustains it, it is His. No God does not need us to care for His creation. Without our effort, the sun rises and sets each day. All our knowledge cannot make that dead seen in the ground come to life unless God performs that miracle. No, the Church is not dependent on our programs and policies. Only the Holy Spirit working through Word and Sacrament can work faith in the heart of the believer. As St. Paul wrote, I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God made it grow. So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God, Who makes things grow (1 Corinthians 3:6-7). However, God has chosen us as stewards to share our financial gifts for the kingdom of God. Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give (2 Corinthians 9:7). God has chosen us to care for His creation....rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on the ground (Genesis 1:28) God has chosen us to make the Gospel known. But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have (1 Peter 3:15)

Messiah is very excited to have been assigned a new Associate Pastor from the seminary! Our new pastor's name is Mr. Christopher Kollmann and he is from Eastchester, NY. His wonderful wife Stephanie is originally from Tampa, FL. Chris and Stephanie enjoy hiking, camping, reading, outdoor activities, and cooking. The installation service for Pastor Chris Kollmann will be held on Sunday, July 22, The exact time is still to be determined, so watch your News & Notes or Messiah s website for all of the up-to-date information!
