1 Gospel Meditation Jesus is resolutely determined to journey to Jerusalem where he would suffer, die and rise. The image given today is a straight line. Our eyes are to be fixed on the Lord proclaiming the Kingdom of God by dying to ourselves to bring new life to others. What distractions do you find in your daily life that keep you from being focused on Jesus? What prevents you from resolutely following Jesus? Ways to Celebrate Fortnight for Freedom Each year dioceses around the country arrange special events to highlight the importance of defending religious freedom. The Fortnight for Freedom is from June 21 the vigil of the Feasts of St. John Fisher and St. Thomas More to July 4, Independence Day. PRAY Eucharistic adoration, the Rosary, and the Divine Mercy Chaplet are all forms of intercession for our country and our first freedom. The U.S. bishops have made prayer resources available at GATHER Join us on Sunday, July 3 after the 10:30 a.m. Mass in the Parish Hall for a hamburger luncheon. The Knigts of Columbus will serve fresh cooked hamburgers, the Guadalupanos will serve ice cream. LEARN Consider a religious freedom movie night. Some suggestions: A Man for All Seasons, about the martyrdom of St. Thomas More For Greater Glory, about the struggle for religious freedom in Mexico First Freedom: The Fight for Religious Liberty, a PBS video about religious freedom Becket, about 12th century English martyr St. Thomas a Becket, the Archbishop of Canterbury. Welcome to Christ the King! Thank you for joining us at Christ the King Catholic Church. We are happy to have you with us today, and hope that you feel welcome. Our parish is a very vibrant community of faith. Are you new to the Catholic Church? Have you been away from the Church for some time? You are invited to worship with us. Contact our parish office if you would like to learn more about the Catholic faith, discuss plans for marriage or baptism, or schedule a chat with Fr. John. If you would like to become a member of our parish, you can register online, or pick up a form in the office. We look forward to seeing you again soon! Page 1

5 Tour The Atrium Learn about Catechesis of the Good Shepherd For children ages 3-6 years old June 25 and 26 after all Masses Christus Center Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS) is a Montessori-based Catholic faith formation program where children can grow in their relationship with God through a deep engagement in Scripture and Liturgy. Meeting Times Sundays 9:15 a.m. 10:15 a.m. Wednesdays 4:30 p.m. God & the Child CGS is based on the belief that God and the child are already in relationship. Our work as adults is to provide a place for the child and God to come together and grow. The Atrium In CGS the children encounter God in a specially prepared place called an Atrium where the children can come to know Jesus, the Good Shepherd. It is a hands-on way of meditating upon the essentials of our faith found in Scripture and Liturgy. Come and see small clay figures of Jesus and his disciples used to meditate on the Last Supper; detailed interactive maps of the land of Israel and the city of Jerusalem, a small replica of our Mass vessels and a Paschal candle used to explore the significance of Baptism. Formation Leaders Formation leaders are trained catechists to lead the children through an encounter with Jesus. Formation leaders are trained in Levels I, II through the national CGS program.
