1 From Fr. John Kim It is World Mission Sunday, and it is a day designated for all Catholics worldwide to rekindle the Church s missionary activity through prayer, sacrifice and almsgiving. Please pay attention to the words of Fr. Small, the national director of the Pontifical Mission Societies. Thank you for your attention and support to this important work of the Church. Annually, World Mission Sunday is celebrated on the next-to-last Sunday in October. As described by Pope John Paul II, World Mission Sunday is "an important day in the life of the Church because it teaches how to give: as an offering made to God, in the Eucharistic celebration and for all the missions of the world" (Redemptoris Missio 81). Pope John Paul II has spoken of the Propagation of the Faith's General Fund of support, calling this a "central fund of solidarity." In a message delivered on a recent World Mission Sunday, the Pope said: "The offerings that will be collected [on World Mission Sunday] are destined for a common fund of solidarity distributed, in the Pope's name, by the Society for the Propagation of the Faith among the missions and missionaries of the entire world." Your ongoing support of the Society for the Propagation of the Faith is vital to the missionaries serving in 1,150 dioceses throughout Asia, Africa, parts of Latin America and Europe, and on the Islands of the Pacific. Your generosity makes it possible for local priests, religious, and catechists to reach out to communities, families and children in desperate need, bringing the light of Christ to the darkest of circumstances. The World Mission Sunday celebration highlights the outreach of local churches through priests, religious and laity among the poor and marginalized half a world away. Life-changing help is provided to mission churches in territories covering more than half the globe. Your prayers and generous support offered to the Society for the Propagation of the Faith on World Mission Sunday directly benefit the mission church and help deepen your relationship with Jesus by helping so many missionaries around the world. 3 Faith Formation YOUTH Camping with Jesus! To all who helped out with our annual Camping with Jesus event, I thank you so much! It really takes a village to run a youth group and I'm so grateful that we have such a faithful and generous village. A special thanks to Krista and Kevin Kaulfus for cooking dinner and chaperoning, Alma Trevino and Alma Cantu for cooking breakfast, and to Andy DeHart, and Sally and Anthony Rios for chaperoning. Thank you for sharing your time and gifts with our teens as they journey toward heaven. Let all that we do be done for the greater glory of God! - Abby Riley Turkey Trot 5K - November 8 Everyone is expected to attend this fundraiser! It supports our entire youth program! Mark your calendar and stay tuned to see what food donations we will need as the event gets closer. The 5K will start after the 10:30am mass at Christ the King! Costumes encouraged whether or not you or your teen are participating in the run. We need many volunteers to help make this a success! Registration begins at 11:00 a.m. Cost is $25 for adults, $15 for students, $75 for families. Register by November 1st to be guaranteed a t-shirt. There will also be a silent auction, sweet treats, and great food such as turkey legs and turkey burgers. Be sure to check out the wonderful items in the silent auction...bid early, bid often! The Giving Tree will be in the Narthex this weekend if you would like to donated needed items. ADULT We Celebrate the Jubilee Year of Mercy! Jesus Christ is the face of the Father s mercy. These words might well sum up the mystery of the Christian faith. Mercy has become living and visible in Jesus of Nazareth, reaching its culmination in him. The Father, rich in mercy (Eph 2:4), after having revealed his name to Moses as a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness (Ex34:6), has never ceased to show, in various ways throughout history, his divine nature. In the fullness of time (Gal 4:4), when everything had been arranged according to his plan of salvation, he sent his only Son into the world, born of the Virgin Mary, to reveal his love for us in a definitive way. Whoever sees Jesus sees the Father (cf. Jn 14:9). This is a shelter created specially for young (teen) mothers as a long-term facility to help these women not only with their pregnancy and birth, but also to help them become fully functioning adults when they leave. Their needs include Gently used or new baby or maternity clothes, diapers and wipes, monetary donations or gift cards to HEB or WalMart, and personal toiletries for mothers and babies. Around the Diocese Bella Sona Concert - October 18 You are cordially invited to attend the Bella Sona Concert, Put a Little Love in Your Heart, Sunday, Oct. 18 at 2:00 p,m. in the Father Charles Davis Memorial Chapel on the campus of Holy Trinity. The concert will last about 45 minutes. Admission is free. Donations are gratefully accepted. Volunteer at Formula One Race with KCs The Greater Austin Chapter of the Knights of Columbus has an excellent opportunity to raise a lot of funds for the Office of Pro-Life of the Diocese of Austin. We will again be staffing some of the concession stands for the Formula One Race, Oct at Circuit of the Americas. Volunteers must be at least 16 years old and do not need to be a Knight.
