1 From Fr. John Kim Gospel Reflection My brothers and sisters, it is time to celebrate Wingfest and Springfest! I am eager to join you this weekend as we come together to build God s kingdom right here in Belton. I have a vision that this will be a time to bring our parish family together as one. We will not be separated by different mass times, or our usual pews. We will have the opportunity to be in one place, at the same time. In this way we can see how we are like the vine, connected to each other. And so we are called to nurture and take care of the vine. What better way to do so than to spend time with our spiritual family? Last week our Gospel reflection focused on being a good shepherd for our parish community. So many of you have done just that this week, with your generous donations supporting Wingfest and Springfest. You have contributed your time, talent and treasure to ensure we have a successful event. It has taken much preparation and hard work to get ready for this weekend. Your efforts make a difference, and have purpose. Thank you for joining us for this amazing annual parish event, and for doing so with unconditional love as Jesus shows us! (Acts 20:35) Thank you for your generosity! Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion Our parish is very much in need of new parishioners to distribute Holy Communion for all masses. By summer we could be so short-handed with folks vacationing that we will have only host ministers, temporarily cut cup ministers. We are also in need of ministers to bring Holy Communion to our brothers and sisters who are homebound or in nursing homes and hospitals. A meeting to provide information for those questioning or answering this call to service will be held in the main sanctuary on Thursday, May 14, from 7:00 (immediately following the evening mass) 9:30 P.M. The ordinary ministers of Holy Communion are the priest and deacons. Can you imagine how long it would take to distribute Holy Communion if we didn t have lay persons who are Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion (EMHCs)? This is your opportunity to be considered EXTRAordinary! You qualify to be an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion (EMHC) if: You are a confirmed Catholic. You are in good standing with the Church and attend mass and receive Holy Communion regularly. You are able to walk up and down the two stairs in our sanctuary. You are not always available. You will have the opportunity to choose the mass times you prefer and to opt out of times when you are not available due to travel or other commitments. You consider yourself unworthy. EVERYONE is unworthy, including our priests, bishops and even Pope Francis! No human is worthy to touch the Divine; it is a gift and a privilege bestowed on us by Jesus Himself! So, please prayerfully consider committing to this most blessed ministry. We shall look forward to meeting with you on May 14. Meanwhile, we d be happy to answer any questions you may have. 3 Faith Formation YOUTH CYM THE WEEK "The Week" camping trip for the youth program will be June 9th-13th at Garner State Park! Sign ups have begun. We also need adult chaperones to help with carpooling and to be part of the fun! to sign up The Week. WORLD YOUTH DAY PARENT MEETING Parents of World Youth Day participants: we will be having a meeting to discuss fundraising plans, sign official documents and other details on Wednesday, May 13th at 6:00 p.m. in the RE Building. This meeting is mandatory, so please ariley@ctkbelton.org if you have a scheduling conflict. NO SNL OR CONFIRMATION CLASS THIS WEEK Springfest is here! That being said, there will be no Confirmation class or SNL this weekend, May 3rd. We hope you will attend Springfest, volunteer to help with the kids games, and celebrate parish life! ADULT Discussion Questions for Gospel Like the good shepherd, the vine and the branches are an agricultural image. In biblical times, many people were familiar with farms and vineyards. What images from modern life do you think Jesus might use to illustrate how we belong to him? What evidence do we as families or as a parish give that we are branches of Jesus' vine? What good works do you most want your parish to produce abundantly? How can you help to make that happen? Name some of the ways your family, school, and parish keep their branches alive and well. Gospel Meditation For the vine to produce good fruit, it must be pruned and trimmed. What needs to be pruned from your life in order to produce more good fruit? END OF YEAR BBQ We are having a BBQ to celebrate the end of the youth ministry year on Sunday, May 31st. Remember to mark your calendar! CONFIRMATION 2 CLASS We will have a class on Sunday, May 31st from 12:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. in place of the class originally scheduled on June 7th. Please plan accordingly and bring a lunch! Students must select their Confirmation saint and sponsor names by May 10th at the 12:00 p.m. class. ariley@ctkbelton.org if you have questions. 4 Around the Parish Food Pantry Report This Month, the CTK Salt and Light Food Pantry served 84 families. This represents 310 individuals, and 7 new clients. Thank you for your continued support of this important ministry! May Crowning, May 6 Please join us for the May Crowning ceremony on Wednesday, May 6 at 6:30 p.m. in the main Sanctuary. All parishioners and families are welcome. We will be reciting the Glorious Mysteries in honor of Mary and celebrating the end of Religious Education. Please bring a flower to honor Mary. Bella Sona Concert, May 8 You are cordially invited to attend a concert by Bella Sona, Holy Trinity Catholic High School s choir directed by Pam Fette. Music in Full Bloom will be performed on Friday, May 8th at 7:00 p.m. in the Christus Center. Admission is free, donations are gratefully accepted. Grief Recover Support Group The Grief Recovery Support Group meets in the Mary Queen of the Rosary Gift Shop on the first, second and third Wednesdays of the month at 7:00 p.m. Focus is on growth, identity issues, coping with change, reassessing needs and dealing with grief. Sunday, June 7 Friday, June 12 A mission trip opportunity is being offered for adults and high school students with Kids to Kids (K2K) Mission Hope to present Vacation Bible School (VBS) for the first time to the Little Ones in our Mission Church located in Colonia Las Palmas, Penitas, TX. It is a JOY to follow Christ into the Mission Field and serving His Little Ones always brings a smile and a sense of fulfilment to those who respond to their Call to Mission. I hope you will join us in this pioneer effort to bring VBS to some deserving kids. The cost of the trip will vary according to hotel assignments but the general cost will be $50.00 per room per day (each room accommodates 2-4 people) and $25.00 per day for food; transportation is separate. Call to Mission will depart at 8:00 a.m. on Sunday, June 7 and will return following a Pilgrimage visit to Our Lady of San Juan Basilica on Friday, June 12.
