1 Dear sisters and brothers in Christ: As you have probably noticed, the City of Belton has begun to widen the sidewalk along Main Street in order to prepare for the future. This project is in partnership with TXDOT who has the right of away on Main Street. The city officials visited our church with Mrs. Wanda Slye, the head of landscaping committee, Mr. John Gillette and I to discuss the whole project with them. I was very glad that the city was very cooperative and friendly. They understood the importance of our front flower beds and therefore, are working very hard to make the damage minimal. The duration of the construction will be about 4 to 5 days, and they promised us that it will not interfere with any weekend services. Although we might need to reshape our flower bed and irrigation system, we will still have them as well as some grass along the street and at no cost to the church at all! In the end, if the construction is done as planned, this will produce a beautiful sidewalk so that we might accommodate pedestrians and cyclers passing by our beautiful church. Who knows, one of them might stop by and encounter our Lord! Let s hope and pray that everything goes well according to the plan. Thank you very much for your warm farewell to our summer resident seminarian, Greg Gehart. It is always wonderful to see a young man who continuously discerns the vocation to the priesthood as a seminarian. Witnessing him refreshes my commitment to the Lord beginning from the seminary formation to now in Belton, Texas. As you probably know, we have one religious sister from Christ the King parish, Sr. Marissa Wick. She is a member of the Sisters of Lamb of God in Owensboro, Kentucky, and her parents are Steven and Phyllis Wick. During her vacation, I had an opportunity to meet with Sr. Marissa, and here is a quote from her vocation story: High school was a big adjustment for me going to a public school after spending ten years in parochial school. I missed Mass & religion classes. I wasn t satisfied with the CCD classes my parents insisted I attend. One semester during open campus lunch when I had final exams, I arranged for someone to take me to Mass without my parents knowing about it. My mother took me to Mass every day during my Christmas break that year. [ ] Over the years there were other career possibilities I was looking into, but I always kept the possibility of becoming a nun in the back of my mind. My thinking was if God wanted me to become a nun, He d make it happen. Then God granted her prayer! Now, in two years, if God willing, Sr. Marissa will profess her perpetual vow and completely offer herself to our Lord. It is a great joy to know that one of our parishioners pursued the consecrated life. I hope that many young people open to God s calling to priesthood and religious life. It is indeed a challenging yet beautiful and meaningful life! If you feel that God is calling you to be a part of His mission, please do not hesitate to talk to me. I am more than happy to guide you in the right direction. School is about to begin. That means the end of the summer is just around the corner. I hope that it has been a peaceful and restful summer, and the rest of summer will be with God s abundant blessing. God loves each of you very much!
