The executive committee has discussed and recommended that we fund and additional $2,500. Brother Steve made a motion that the council fund an additional $2500 towards the required $8,000 for the ultrasound training. The motion was passed, unanimously. A another meeting was held (immediately after the general membership meeting) to hold the required second vote, which also was passed unanimously. 9. Brother Tim is requesting funds for an initiative that we have been discussing at the officers meeting for 2-3 months. Brother Tim has done significant research and from what I have heard it sounds very good. It s called Fight the New Drug and has requested Funding.

The executive committee has discussed and recommended that we fund it. It s called the Call to Purity Sponsorship Funding There s a group that does presentation nationally about the dangers of pornography, the addiction to pornography, and the rates at which our children are exposed to it. It is a presentation to raise awareness of the dangers of pornography to our youth, our families, and, our culture. The presentation will be given by a nationally recognized antipornography group, which is a non-profit organization that gives live presentations on the harmful effects of pornography at schools and universities around the country. It will cost $4,000 plus to host the group and provide a light meal. There will be one presentation for middle school/high school youth and a second presentation for parents and educators. This will take place February 11 th, in the PLC Brother Tim made a motion for the council to commit $1,000 toward this effort. The motion was passed unanimously. The required second vote was also passed, unanimously during the second meeting. Brother Tim made a second motion for approval to use the council s logo, the councils name and number, pending approval from Supreme. This motion was also passed unanimously. 10. Every year we as Knights support food for families. During the Thanksgiving and Christmas times it is felt more so than at other times. As in times past we would like to give $500 to the foodbank for the Thanksgiving season. 11. T-shirts can be ordered. A blue one is on display. You can sign up for one after the meeting. Also, from PGK Moe Powers: Those who have ordered council polo shirts, please contact me with the $22 to pick them up. Those who would like one, I have extras in various sizes. GK recognized the following new Third Degree Knights: Drew Tulson, John Childs, Ray Villaroja, Joseph Quinn, Robert Young, Thomas Kraus, Deacon John Shin, Nick Ducanos, Paul Roberts, (first name?) Timmons Report of the Fourth Degree: (Brother Franklin Bevel) No Report Field Agents Report: (Tim Pugh) There are some annuities out there that the K of C has with 4 percent interest rate; there are some we have that are 3 and 3 ½ percent; There is talk the Knights will eliminate deposits into these in the future, because it is getting harder to get this rate of return. Annuities guaranteed lifetime minimum is 1.5 percent. With interest rates being at a historic low, there is talk that that may be as good a place as you can get for your money right now. The point being, some agents got people to open 3 and 3 ½ percent annuities right before the Knights eliminated those. So 1.5 might not be a bad rate going forward in a few years we might regret not having a 1.5 percent annuity. Now might be a good time to do that.

Good of the Order: Deacon Lou Marini shared I m Not Lion : This story was told for true at a recent mission s conference but don't believe it! A stalwart young missionary was chased through the African bush for a week by a ferocious lion. Finally the missionary found himself concerned and, in despair, fell to his knees and prayed for deliverance. To his amazement, the lion also began to pray. It s truly a miracle, said the missionary, you, a killer lion, joining me in prayer just when I thought my life was going to end! Be quiet, said the lion, I m saying grace. Meeting Closure: GK closed with the Knight's Prayer and the meeting was adjourned at 8:11 p.m. Next general membership meeting is November 1st at 7 p.m. After-meeting Social: Attendees remained for a social at the end of the meeting. PGK Steve Zajac provided the snacks and beverages.

Family of the Month October 2016 John and Ann Foley Brother John received the honors of the 4 th Degree Knight in He actively participates in numerous Council activities, including the Sunland summer and Christmas events, youth outreach programs such as the KoC sponsored Spelling Bee, Soccer Challenge, and Free Throw Competition, and annual celebrations including the Council s Widows Social and the Clergy Appreciation Dinner. He can usually be seen in the background of many Council functions doing behind the scenes clean-up duties. He is the combined HNJ and COR Bingo Chairman, is also a reliable caller and team chief in charge of Bingo Team #4. He and the other members of the four Bingo teams have been instrumental in the success of the activity in producing over 80% of the income used in charitable, community, and council support. Additionally, he volunteers to support the handicap citizens (Tootsie Roll) drive every year. In past years, he and his wife Ann, and the other volunteers worked at several key store entrances in the Niceville area and collected contributions, while handing out vast quantities of donated Tootsie Rolls to the contributors. On a yearly average, over $2000 is typically submitted to the State Council to help various groups assisting the handicapped. They were both actively involved with helping with past annual Sunland picnics and Christmas Parties. John assists in the efforts of the HNJ and COR Councils in providing a picnic for handicapped members of the State managed Sunland facility for the handicapped located in Marianna, Florida, and a full up party and Christmas Gift exchange in the HNJ Parish Hall. Our Council has sponsored these events annually for the past 29 years. John serves within the Eucharistic Minister, Lector, and Usher Ministries, rarely participating in Mass as strictly an observer. He is also a core member of the Parish Bereavement Ministry, reaching out to parishioners during their grief. John enjoys the camaraderie, fellowship, community outreach, and challenges associated with actively supporting our Council. He volunteered his time over a full weekend to repaint the Parish Hall, which is used by the council for Bingo and social events. Ann is a member of the Parish Ladies Sodality and a Choir member. As an active member of the distinguished group of women in the Sodality, she helped to work unselfishly with the set up and execution of social functions such as Cakewalks, picnics, and other Parish events. The group also hosts receptions at Funerals and memorial services while aiding the grieving friends and relatives of those whom have passed on. In the Choir, she participated in the last four Holy Name of Jesus Parish Annual Christmas and Easter Choral presentations. Ann participates in virtually all Council and many Parish activities, to include the Knights Widows Social, the Clergy Appreciation Dinner, and together with John, uses her Master Gardener knowledge to provide perpetual upkeep of the Council s Memorial to Unborn Children in front of Holy Name of Jesus, as well as managing plant sales during both our Spring and Fall Rummage Sales. She also is a primary POC for the ministry to upkeep the church grounds. Ann supported a Wine Tasting social as the wine pourer during an appreciation event for the last Past Grand Knight celebration. She received training to operate the Audio-Visual system used during masses, and performs this duty on a regular basis at the 0800 Sunday masses. She is a regular team member of the Bingo Kitchen crew during the Team 4 scheduled support. Ann is a mainstay volunteer for short-notice set-ups and clean-ups at Council functions, where her quick smile and community spirit motivates others to pitch in. Both Ann and John prepare and serve Polish food during our Annual Fall International Food Festival, which raises funds to support our local Seminarians. Brother John and Ann demonstrate through hard work their Christian values and the KOC principles of Charity, Unity, Fraternity and Patriotism.

Knight of the Month October 2016 Gary Hetzel Brother Gary has been in the Knights since 2012, and earned the 4th Degree in Gary worked hard this year in many church, KOC council 7667, and community related activities. He and his wife Rosanna are active and consistent members as servers on the Knight s Pasta Team # 2. The monthly event has become a model of success, and usually collects over five thousand dollars a year in support of such programs as Life Incorporated. This activity has attracted dozens of interested volunteers such as the Hetzel family, allowing several designated teams to take turns in supporting the preparation and serving of the dinners, as well as the cleaning up of the Parish Hall after each dinner. It has also provided members of the parish with an excellent dinner on Saturday nights at a very reasonable cost, and typically over 100 people show up for the monthly dinners. Brother Gary supports the annual Handicapped Citizens Drive. He and the other volunteers work at store entrances in the local area and collected contributions, while handing out a vast quantity of donated tootsie rolls to the contributors. The collections are submitted to the State Council to help various groups assisting the handicapped. This year over $2200 was collected by the Knights. He and Rosanna work tirelessly in support of Council and parish social activities, this being one of the major reasons for the overwhelming success of these events. They were both actively involved with helping with the annual Sunland Christmas Party for members of the State managed Sunland facility for the handicapped located in Marianna, Florida The two local Councils plan and execute a full up party and Christmas Gift exchange in the Parish Hall. Our Council has sponsored this event annually for the past 30 years. Both he and his wife provided invaluable assistance during the past Council sponsored Christmas Party for a group of over 50 handicapped persons. This event involved both providing of food for the handicapped, as well as for their family members and staff of the agency, and the distribution of gifts. The Council members purchased presents for the guests and then helped Santa to distribute the presents by name to each guest. Brother Gary attends all KOC activities as much as possible between his active schedules as a full time Civil Servant at Eglin AFB. At work, he volunteers to assist in providing an informal and well stocked snack bar for the employees in his office, and also is a volunteer tax preparer for anyone on the base needing assistance. He and Rosanna are active members of the Eglin AFB St Michaels Parish, and they both volunteer to perform the jobs as Eucharistic Ministers and ushers. Gary assists the primary coordinator of the St Michaels KOC Round Table, which consists of six members in Council He often substitutes for the Round Table Chairman in the monthly Council Executive and Columbian Meetings. He supports and attends the effort to perform the Rosary every month at St Michaels. He and his wife participate in the efforts to provide an annual parish picnic on the base, selling Keeping Christ in Christmas Cards, and to participate in a Stations of the Cross event, complete with a Lenten luncheon with soups prepared and served by the knights. He currently serves as the Treasurer for Council 7667, and is responsible for paying the bills for the council and providing the budget status at the monthly meetings. The support of knight families such as Gary and Rosanna help form the backbone of today s Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus charitable activities.
