2 WOMEN S MISSIONS What a summer it has been! It has been one of the hottest and stickiest ones I remember. Indian summer can be just as bad-continue to stay cool! By the time this newsletter goes out, school will be back in Session, and with it many changes for some. Keep the administration, teaches, students and school board in your prayers. We will be feeding the Community Inn on Thursday, September 15, at 6:00 p.m. We are going to serve chicken, potato salad, green beans and dessert. We would love to have you join us for a time of fellowship and fun. We will have our fall session on Monday, September 26, at 7:00 p.m. We would love for a church to step in and offer to host, but if not, then we will meet at the associational office. Remember our red shoebox item: LOTION (8-11 Ounces) and NO pumps. Lotion is due in the associational office no later than Tuesday, November 1. We still need a church to host our spring session in May. If your group is interested, please let me know. Fundraiser ideas are needed to help us be able to provide a $750 scholarship to a deserving young lady. If you have any good ideas, please feel free to share. Please remember to pay your dues of $2.00/member. $.50 of each $2.00 will go towards the scholarship. Please mail your dues to our new treasurer, Teresa Carriker, 1034 Smith Grove Road, Oakboro, NC You can call ( ) or text her. When you send your dues, please put your church name on your check that would be appreciated. Know everyone is getting ready to get back into the groove of missions. If there is anything we can do to assist, please don t hesitate to give us a buzz. Our next associational meeting will be Tuesday, Nov. 1, at 7:00 p.m. at the associational office. Continue to keep God foremost in your life and missions. He will take you far. In His love, Barbara The Singing Americans of Stanly County will kick off rehearsals for the Christmas concert season on Tuesday, Sept. 6, 6:30 p.m. in the First Street United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall in Albemarle. 3 The Eyes of a Leader Effective leaders have trained eyes to see the past, present and future differently than casual observers or participants. Leaders see and understand dynamics, the cause and effect of decisions and actions. They connect the past, present and future. Leaders look at the past dynamically. They interpret past movements and traditions beyond the what and who to understand why. Many traditions in churches were established in resistance to a situation. Other traditions were established because of their connection with a movement of God. The wise leader will discern this in choosing what to embrace and what to release. Effective leaders eye current situations dynamically, as the result of past choices. Past successes can create positive momentum for years. If things are going well now, it is likely because of past decisions and actions. Most present troubles spring from seeds of neglect, discontent or misbehavior from the past. The leader perceives more than what the untrained eye observes. Helping others to discern the roots of a problem provides them with tools to resolve it. Otherwise, this same problem will have a way of cycling through the life of a congregation again and again. Finally, effective leaders see possible futures based on the spectrum of options made available. The wise leader will ride the wave of current success with an eye to the horizon. What do current trends suggest for our future? While the future is ripe with risk and unknowns, the wise leader will not be caught off guard by cultural waves building in the present. Judy Hartsell Disaster Relief/Recovery teams have now been requested to volunteer in Louisiana because of the extensive flooding there. Mud-out teams are needed to begin cleaning out the debris from thousands of water-damaged homes. Teams from N.C. will need to bring their own tools and supplies for a 6-7 day deployment (counting hour travel days on each end). NC teams will also need to have a blue hat as a supervisor to travel with them because the NC teams will be working under the Louisiana Baptist Men s organization. Please pray about this opportunity to be the hands and feet of Jesus to the survivors of this current deluge of flooding in Louisiana. Also, please be in prayer for all of the different needs of those families affected by the flooding. Chris Simpson, Region 6 Disaster Relief Coordinator, will be glad to answer questions about the preparations and equipment needed for this response from NC Baptist teams. His mobile number is (704) Also, donations can be sent to support the flooding recovery efforts in Louisiana, South Carolina and West Virginia through the NC Missions Offering (NCMO) through the NC Baptists on Missions website: Flood/Update or if you would like to pay by check, please make your check payable to NCBM, PO Box 1107, Cary, NC Designate on your check to Louisiana Flood Efforts.
