I rolled over, I lay flat, but I could not get comfortable. It was 1:27AM. I got up and went into the living room, thinking that if I lay in the recliner I could be comfortable. That didn t work either. I fumbled around in the dark to find the blood pressure monitor, but in two attempts all I got was error messages. I was talking with the Lord and letting him know if this was my time to come home it was okay, but... By 3am the pain had not subsided and I decided to wake up Teresa. As gently as I could, I said, I think I need to go see a doctor but she was alarmed anyhow. As she was getting dressed I could barely stand to walk to the truck. The pain was from shoulder to shoulder and from the neck to the diaphragm. On the way to Jeff City I felt a bit nauseated and really did not want to make a mess in my truck. The pain was not subsiding. It felt like I had been kicked by a mule (yes, I have been kicked in the chest by a horse, so I know what it feels like!). As Teresa drove (faster than she usually does) through the dark I mentioned to her about the folder in the file cabinet that has my will, funeral plans, and other important info in it; and I told her who to call at Liberty should I not make it. She told me to shut up that was not an option. So we get to Jeff and they do an EKG and blood work and find out it is not my heart Thankfully! So then it is a question of what it could be. I apologized to Teresa telling her if I had known it was not my heart I would not have awakened her and worried her, and had her drive 30 miles in the middle of the night. But she said if we hadn t come I could have been in a lot worse place. No, I said, If it had been my heart and we didn t come to the ER I would have been in a much better place! She did not appreciate that either! But it is true... Later, I was relating this to the ER doctor and he said, So, you re pretty sure of that, huh? To which I responded, Yes, I am. Would you like to discuss it? He made an excuse about something and left the room.... For those of you who are wondering about my health it appears to have been an acute case of pleurisy, possibly brought on by enterovirus-d68. But the more important thing here is a reflection on such times. 1. The fear of death and what comes after life. I am confident of where I am going because I trust the Promise and Payment of Jesus. 2. Stewardship. Though Jesus made the payment for our sin and gave us a promise of eternal life, we need to have a plan for our loved ones we leave behind. That plan must include, first of all, sharing the

2 gospel with them and leading them to Christ. But beyond that, I know that when my time on this earth is over, Teresa will be well cared for. Financially, I am worth more dead than alive. 3. Faithfulness. We are not held responsible for how others respond to the gospel, but we are responsible for sharing the gospel. Even though the ER doctor was not interested in hearing what I had to say, it was evident he was not used to someone being so confident of their destiny. But if we are not confident of where we are going, how can expect others to follow, or go along with us? Are you confident of where you are going? Have you made preparation for those you may leave behind? Are you faithful in inviting others to go along? Your Fellow Servant Timothy MCBA ANNUAL MEETING HELD The Miller county Baptist Association held its Annual Meeting Saturday, September 13. We had a good group present. Below you will find pictures of the North Shore Kids who sang two songs for us. They did a wonderful job. There were twenty children in this group. Bro. Charles LaChance brought the sermon for the day. Following the message the business of the association was conducted. We elected officers and committee members, heard reports from various groups, accepted the proposed Constitution and the budget. Bro. Robert Smith from Calvary Baptist Church in Clarinda Iowa brought a report of work in Iowa. Bro. George Fulgham, representing the Missouri Baptist Children s Home, also brought a presentation on the work our monies support. The meeting adjourned to lunch and fellowship time. All in all it was a very good Annual Meeting. Thanks to Riverview for hosting, to everyone who sent and/or presented reports and for getting in your Annual Church Profiles. All trainees must submit a background check request, have a letter of recommendation signed by your Pastor or Director of Missions and attend the Introduction to Disaster Relief every three years. Those training in Chaplaincy, refer to the Chaplaincy information below. For convenience and efficiency we plan to offer all types of training at every location. Forms are available on our website for your convenience. Registration fees and requirements: Registration fee for first time volunteers is currently $40*. for those retraining and who do not need clothing items, the current fee is $20*. Blue hat trainees will have the additional cost for your blue hat; currently $5. Chaplain training (refer below for Chaplaincy information) *Registration fee is payable at the door or online when registering. 4 MISSIONS OPPORTUNITIES On Saturday, September 20, the Horseshoe Bend Baptist Church had a block party in conjunction with the Horseshoe Bend community garage sales. The Lord blessed with beautiful weather! They borrowed the MCBA block party trailer, along with the bounce house for this event and we were blessed to be able to share it with them. Several volunteers from Miller County Baptist Association pitched in to help, and over 400 people attended. ON MISSION CELEBRATION CONTINUES -- A NOTE FROM DAN OLSON An idea came to me today concerning some help that your churches could do for us. One of the things our new IMB president will be focusing on is reaching the Unreached, Unengaged, People Groups (UUPG) around the world. I am developing a strategy to try and engage our Top 8 UUPG s over the next three years. Below is an outline of the initial plan. What would be helpful is to have your churches pray for one or two of these UUPG s during the month of October. We can send prayer requests on each of them and the only commitment would be to pray for one month. NORTHERN AFRICA CLUSTER Shawiya Berbers of Algeria I would like to see this UUPG engaged in 2015 if possible. As of right now it continues to be difficult to get people into Algeria and so I m looking at mobilizing a national Algerian believer to target/live among them. We would like to have them in the mountains with the Shawiya, but they may have to start out in the capital at first. Pop. 1.4 million Middle Atlas Berbers of Algeria I would hope that they would be engaged by 2016 with another national Algerian believer who will be living among them. Again, we may have to start in the capital and then have them live among them shortly thereafter. Pop. 1 million

5 Drawa Berber of Morocco I don t know much about this UUPG of 457k living in Morocco at this time. I need to get more information about them from one of our team strategy leaders who works among the Berbers. I would like to get a church to adopt this UUPG and use other Berber resources that we have to reach them. Projecting for 2016 Riffi Berbers of Algeria Due to the location of this UUPG, I think that we have resources from the Riffi Berber team in Morocco that can be used. Maybe in 2017 we can set the goal of reaching this UUPG. This will probably be targeted from Morocco at first. Pop. 300k Fiala Berber of Morocco This UUPG is around 343k and I would look at a church adopting this UUPG by 2017 Algerian Arabs of Tunisia I think that either a GCC or a SBC church could take this on as a goal. I guess I would be looking at the spring of 2017 as being engaged within Tunisia. Pop. 250k Sidi Bedouin of Algeria This might be one of the more difficult UUPG s in North Africa since they are Bedouin and they are located in Algeria. The population is listed as 115k and I don t know much about them. I would probably want a national targeting them by Shawiya Berbers of Tunisia The population of this UUPG is 46k and we should be able to engage these Berbers once we get up and running with a strategy to reach the Shawiya Berbers of Algeria. We will talk about budgeting process and purpose, compensation planning and stewardship promotion. Conferees will receive information that will help them with the 2015 budget preparation: compensation planning which includes tax questions, retirement questions, and insurance questions; and how to promote Biblical stewardship in an ongoing way as well as an emphasis. This conference is being sponsored by the Stewardship Department of the Missouri Baptist Convention.
