1 THE ADVANCE Second Congregational UCC FACEBOOK: Second Congregational UCC, Grand RapidsCEBOOK: By the time you receive this Advance, Pastor David Alicea and his wife Mayra will no longer be with us. Together we can support the functions of our church and be strong in our ministry to each other, the community and our friends. We will get through this together! We will be forming a search committee. However, we will not rush into a quick decision to hire. 2 Meet our new Director of Music Ministries! Barbara Dulmage has served numerous churches in the East and in the Midwest. Most recently, she was the regular Sunday morning organist for Seventh Reformed Church in Grand Rapids for six years, and prior to her move to Grand Rapids in 2011, she was Organist and Choirmaster of Collingwood Presbyterian Church in Toledo, Ohio for seven years, following five years as Organist and Choirmaster at Trinity Episcopal Church in downtown Toledo. She also acted as Artistic Director for Toledo s community chorus, Sing Out Toledo! for two years. Prior to her move to Ohio she served Lutheran churches in Des Moines, Iowa. In addition to her church career, she acted as Artist-in-Residence at Park College in Kansas City, Missouri for two years, where she served as College Organist and taught organ and related courses. Barbara holds Bachelor of Music Education and Master of Music in Organ degrees from the University of Kansas, and the Doctor of Musical Arts in Organ Performance and Pedagogy from the University of Iowa, where she also completed requirements for the master s program in choral conducting. Aside from music, Barbara also enjoys her roles as licensed massage therapist, certified clinical hypnotherapist, and Soul Coach. She loves her dog, Charlie, and enjoys reading, traveling, cooking and sewing, among other activities that present themselves. "Stillspeaking" Tuesday Bible Study resumes on September 12th! Second Church is excited to announce that Forrest Hoppe will be leading a nine week Bible Study at 9:30 am on Tuesdays beginning on September 12th and running until November 7th. Rev. Hoppe will be using the UCC's "Stillspeaking Bible Study" and copies will be available at church beginning in early September. In this brief Stillspeaking Bible Study, nine different voices interpret nine different biblical passages that urgently say one thing: "We serve a living, loving God who is still speaking, who is not finished yet, who has more truth and light to break forth, and who is calling you and me to respond this day. Right now."
