Cox, District Bishop Sept. 30, 2018 To the excellent Pastors, Ministers, and Congregations of our District Church, Wednesday 9/5. Early this morning Margaret and I heard rumors that Bishop Loyd Naten had a massive heart attack during routine therapy and passed away. We began to pray. A few hours later we received this post on Face Book from the PCG Page. It was true. He will be greatly missed! Today is also Trisha Naten s birthday. She greatly impressed us when she posted, I am so honored that our LORD chose my birthday to promote Loyd to Glory. Trisha s faith is very strong and her love for Loyd is exemplary. Please pray for all of Loyd s family this month. Rest In Peace dear friend. Attention: These churches are OPEN: PLYMOUTH PCG. We are accepting resumes, and tryouts are scheduled to begin in October. If you feel led, please call Presbyter Judd at SHERIDAN PCG. We have no try outs yet. If you feel led, please call Presbyter Hicks at We have a proposal for WILLOWS that will be considered by the Executive Committee on 10/2. 1

2 Tuesday 9/4. The special AD HOC Committee (ad hoc is Latin meaning: for this specific purpose. ) from last year reconvened to assess the progress of the General Operating Fund for our District Church. We were delighted to discover that the changes implemented affected a monthly increase of $3,831 p. mo. to the General Operating Fund. i.e.: $1,831 over the projected need. Since implementation (June 2017) the General Fund has operated in the black every month, and the fund has reversed from -$58, to a positive +$4, PTL!!! The GOF is the garbage can fund (it collects all the undesignated bills and unfunded mandates) and was the only under-performing fund in the District Church. God bless these committee members for their outstanding work, and the District Board for facilitating it. Amen. Vision Visits and Other Events of Interest: 9/2. Labor Day Weekend Sunday. I was honored to preach for New Life PCG at Oroville while Pastors Ken and Brenda Malone visited their son Josh at college. We were blessed with an outstanding congregation, despite the holiday! PTL! And, the lady pictured in the center accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior for the very first time! This lady is Evelyn Dickey and she is 101 years old. I know it s not Mother s Day, but Margaret says any woman who makes it to 101 deserves an honorable mention! Amen to that! Labor Day lunch with Mom at the Cornucopia! This is Mom s favorite eatin place, and we were delighted she was able to go out with us! She s the OKIE Cutie! FAMILY NOTE: Today was our son Don s first Sunday back in the pulpit since his motorcycle accident. This was a huge event for us and New Beginnings PCG! He will preach again in a month. PTL!!! Fri-Sunday, 9/7-9. On our way to the Women s Ministry Banquet, Rally, and Sunday services at Redwood Family Worship Center in Crescent City with Pastors Jim and Cindi Ford, we were appalled by the destruction caused by the Whiskeytown/Carr fire (N/W of Redding). This is a file photo from the Keswick area. We were on Hwy 299 and it looked just like this, from the lake and on towards Weaverville. Caltrans workers were wearing respirator masks. Pray church pray!!! Amen. 2

3 Saturday 9/8. Pastor Ford says this is the prettiest street corner in Crescent City! No argument from me! During the WM Rally he gave me, Presbyter Daisy and Bro. John Sampson the nickel tour of the new Sanctuary addition and the new Youth Ministry building and storage facility. Wow! Sat-Sunday, 9/8-9. At 11am, the Redwood Empire WM Rally began with the ladies on the starboard side worshipping in song. Late Saturday afternoon, after the sectional fellowship, Margaret and I drove up to Brookings, OR, just to look around. It is beautiful! I preached Sunday morning and Margaret Sunday night. Sunday afternoon the Pastor s treated us to the Chartroom! PTL! I love to listen to the Sea Lions barking as they sun themselves in the harbor. What a beautiful place. What a wonderful weekend. Monday 9/10 Happy %#th Birthday to Margaret Cox! We enjoyed an excellent birthday breakfast at the Seascape on the Pier at Trinidad CA on our way home. 9/11. Can you believe this is the 17 th Anniversary of that infamous day in 2001? God save America! Amen! Today, we watched the Celebration Of Life service for Bishop Loyd Naten. Thank you JFWC and Pastor Wermuth for making it available! 3

4 Thursday-Monday 9/ Margaret flew to Austin TX for the SW Texas District Women Conference at San Marcos. She loved Bishops Bob and Eileen Jayne and all the District ladies! The conference was focused on humor and God used it to perform several remarkable healings (according to the Bishops). They treated her royally and she met many wonderful women and also saw some beautiful Texas landscape. Margaret loved every minute! Thursday-Saturday 9/ Lead Pastor s Wives Getaway at Lake Tahoe. What a Blast! From Peanut butter Cheeseburgers at the Red Hut, to Swiss breakfast at Heidi s, to make-to-order Pizza at Macduff s; we gorged on fun, food, and fellowship! Margaret may change the name to Lead Pastor s Getaway and include the men every year! Meanwhile, back at home: Friday 9/14 was Don and Giovanna s 27 th Anniversary. They re looking pretty good! This photo was taken at Yosemite where they joined a motorcycle run (in their car). Don has since got the halo removed from his neck, and he hopes to be released from his wheelchair in the first week of October. His pain is still constant, but he is progressing remarkable. We feel the effects of your prayers everyday! Thank you all! Sunday 9/16. While Margaret preached for Trinity PCG at Cuero TX, I was honored to preach for Don and Giovanna at New Beginnings. Margaret flew in from Texas late Monday night and we were all anxious for her to get home. PTL! Ron, Roger, Jim & Mike golfing at the Tahoe Paradise GC. (Don and I came too, just ride in a cart, but the course would not let us. Boogers!) 4

5 Teresa, Jeanie, Laura, Peggy, Margaret, Janice, Gail and Suzi enjoying the Gondola ride (the photo on p.4 was taken from the observation deck). I heard Janice is scared of heights! (she s clearly posing) and Jeanie tortured her mercilessly! (she s clearly loving it) God help us all if we ever get stuck on a Gondola with PCG women! If you go to Lake Tahoe, you ve got to visit Macduff s! It is a unique dining experience. More importantly, we laughed and laughed until we could laugh no more! The ladies said we men were welcome, but you can see they still put us at the end of the table (and ignored us too! We were in the man zone again.). Sat-Sun 9/ Margaret and I drove straight from Lake Tahoe to Bethel Island for the New Covenant PCG 25 th Anniversary service with Pastors John and Lori Thomas. I was so impressed by Pastors from 5 different sections being in attendance. Wow! Pastor Larry Roper from Antioch opened the service. Daniel Thomas and the worship team were dynamic (he writes most of his music). We enjoyed great testimonies followed by an incredible catered dinner provided by the church. PTL! I was also blessed to stay over and preach Sunday morning and evening. What a memory! Thanks to daughter Denee, I got to play a great joke on Charles Scott. I teased him about Judge Ruth Bader Ginsburg being attracted to him back in 1879! She asked me to call him so he could respond in person. It was wonderful to chat with him and enjoy his spirited conversation. 5

6 Thank you Pastor Scott Nalley for these before and after photos of the brand new roof job on the Vallejo PCG Parsonage! Beautiful job guys and we are delighted to see it! PTL! Tax Warning! Perhaps this would be a good time to advise all our Pastors to make sure any taxes owed on the property are paid up. If a Pastor before you missed a payment, the city/county can hold that payment for 7 years without warning you, add penalties to it, then threaten to auction the property is you do not pay up. So, go on line and look at your tax statement and check for default taxes. I am writing this Newsletter on Thursday 9/27. Tomorrow we leave for Winnemucca NV. Margaret is preaching the Women s Conference for Pastors Allen and Darla Peavy; and I will be preaching Sunday. We are very excited to get to return to this wonderful church, way up in Silver Mine country. We will return on Mon. 10/1. On a Sad note: the original plan was to go on to Elko NV to preach a revival at the PCG Indian Mission for Missionaries Danny and Eldonna Figuel, but Pastor Danny has passed away. I was grieved to hear this news, and also grieved about waiting too long and missing the opportunity to know these Pastors better. THIS JUST IN!!! The Sacramento Kings blessed my son Don, on behalf of Impact Ministries, with some complimentary GUEST TICKETS for the NBA Basketball season! He received a neat gift box for a keep-sake, but he can t actually use the season tickets. Too bad! But wow anyway!!! Why couldn t it be Golden State? (Just joking Don!)
