1 Leader: People: Leader: People: Leader: People: Honor the LORD with your wealth, with the firstfruits of all your crops; then your barns will be filled to overflowing, and your vats will brim over with new wine (Prov. 3:9-10). Money is not evil unless it leads us away from you, Lord. May we honor you with our wealth and use it for good. Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies (1 Cor. 6:19-20). Our lives are not our own. We cannot save ourselves. We need you to rescue us from death. We have been bought with your precious blood; may we live not for ourselves but for you, Jesus. The Lord Jesus himself said: It is more blessed to give than to receive (Acts 20:35). Lord, change our orientation from being getters to being givers, so that we might know the joy of your blessed life. PASTOR: Rev. William Schram PASTOR EMERITUS: Rev. Dr. Charles E. 2 THE ORDER OF MORNING WORSHIP 32 ND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME 10:00 AM NOVEMBER 12, 2017 THE FIRST NOTE OF THE PRELUDE begins our worship. Please use the prelude time to turn your attention to God s presence and help. Worship is a natural response to God s goodness. Take time to consider all the reasons, big and small, for which you are thankful unto God. Nurturing our relationships and friendships in fellowship is essential to our life as a congregation, so please continue to do so following our time of worship. Those who are able are invited to stand. WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS APPROACHING GOD PRELUDE The Blessing PAUL MCKLVEEN Adult Handbell Choir CALL TO WORSHIP Leader: Much of the time, we carry with us the following: enough cash to give us a sense of buying power and security; plastic cards that allow us to act now, while deferring consequences to the future; paper checks that receive value only as we place our name on them. People: All of the time, we carry with us aspects of the Living God. Enough love to be a source of power and security; hope that urges us to act now, trusting God, who grants us our future; faith from contact with Christ whose values we embody as he places his image on us. Leader: Funds we find useful. People: God s presence we find vital. So we gather to worship to give thanks for faith, hope and love from God our Creator, Redeemer and Sustainer. HYMN #443 There Is a Redeemer GREEN CALL TO CONFESSION UNISON PRAYER OF CONFESSION Loving God, we confess freely that all is not well with us. We seek your encouragement and renewal, your forgiveness and grace. We seek this knowing all too well that we too often respond to wrongs done us with vengeance rather than forgiveness. We pray for the wounds of our world and the ways we respond to them. Forgive us for injuries caused by cutting words and deeds, by the cruelty of neglect or uncaring. Forgive us for feelings hurt by by unnecessary abrasiveness and rough handling. Forgive us for seeking to return hurt for hurt, or even for returning more pain than we received. Forgive us for bruising others because of our stung pride. Instead help us be those who learn to forgive as Jesus bids us and to be wellsprings of grace. In Jesus name. Amen. ASSURANCE OF FORGIVENESS Leader: This saying is true and we should believe it: that Christ Jesus came into the world to rescue sinners. He himself bore our sins in his body on the cross, that we might be dead to sin and alive to all that is good. To all those who repent, therefore, I proclaim to you the forgiveness of all your sins, in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. People: Amen. HYMN OF ASSURANCE Behold, I Make All Things New INSERT BACK PAGE SHARING THE PEACE Leader: The peace of the risen Lord be with you. People: And also with you. Amen. DOXOLOGY LITANY OF STEWARDSHIP DEDICATION Leader: Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver (2 Cor. 9:6-7). People: Lord, grant us joy in giving. Light a passion in our hearts for building up your body and providing for the work of your kingdom.

6 Litany for Veterans Leader: God of love, peace and justice, it is your will for the world that we may live together in peace. Yet we live in a broken world, and there are times that war seems inevitable. As we gather here, we may give thanks for those that have served with courage and honor. People: God, we praise you for those that are willing to serve. Let all Soldiers, Marines, Sailors, Airmen and Coast Guardsmen serve with honor, pride, and compassion. Do not let their hearts be hardened by the actions they must take. Strengthen their families. Keep them surrounded in your love and peace. Leader: We give thanks for those that have served in the military in the past. People: God, we praise you for those that have served in the military. We thank you for those that put the welfare of others ahead of their own safety. Let us all be inspired by their selfsacrifice in service to those who needed protection. Leader: We pray for the fallen comrades of our veterans and for their families. People: God, we praise you for those that have made the ultimate sacrifice. We ask that you comfort those that still feel the pain of their loss. Keep us mindful that you have promised to comfort those that mourn. Leader: We are those who have gathered in your name in safety because of the sacrifices of others. People: God, we praise you for granting us these freedoms. Let us honor those who have served by working for peace. Let us never forget those that have served, and let us never let go of your promise of peace. Page 4
