1 Leader: We are thankful for the many contributions that the entire Dooner family has made to our congregation. Their friendship, smiles, encouragement, and participation have made a significant impact here at Faith. We will miss each one of them, but also know that they will continue to share these blessings with those they meet in their new location. Congregation: We give thanks for the grace of God that has established the Church and this congregation. We give thanks for the Dooner family's time among us. We give thanks for Pastor Tim's kind leadership, sage words, caring and compassion. We must now accept the satisfactory conclusion of his ministry among us, as we prepare for a new chapter for our church family. Leader: Do you, the members of this congregation release Tim from his pastoral duties? Congregation: We do, with the help of God. Leader: While Tim leaves this congregation, he continues to serve the Presbyterian Church USA as a Teaching Elder. Do you offer your encouragement and support for his ministry and life as it unfolds in new ways and new places? Congregation: We do, with the help of God. Leader: Let us pray. Creator God, whose steadfast love for all has been there since the beginning, we give thanks for remembered times when we have shared the life of faith. Savior God, who sacrificed so much that we might have eternal life, we thank you for the times we have gathered in worship, in learning, in service. Our times together saw laughter and tears, hopes and disappointments, victories and failures. Comforter God, guide us as we hold these cherished and challenging memories. Inspire us to move in new directions until that time to come when we are completely one with you and with each other. Until that moment, help each of us to look to the future with the confidence, trusting in your abiding care and grace. In the name of Jesus who is the Christ. Congregation: Amen CHARGE CHORAL BENEDICTION The Lord Bless You PETER LUTKIN (Members of the congregation and Keep You who wish, may come forward to join the choir for this benediction.) POSTLUDE Sent Forth By God s Blessing ASH GROVE We are sent out from worship to be grown as disciples of Jesus Christ and to serve throughout the week as we live out His ministry. 2 THE ORDER OF MORNING WORSHIP 33 RD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM 10:00 AM NOVEMBER 13, 2016 THE FIRST NOTE OF THE PRELUDE begins our worship. Please use the prelude time to turn your attention to God s presence and help. As worship is not an obligatory offering unto God, but a natural response to God s goodness, take time to consider all the reasons, big and small, for which you are thankful unto God. Nurturing our relationships and friendships in fellowship is essential to our life as a congregation, so please continue to do so following our time of worship. Those who are able are invited to stand. Latecomers may be seated. WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS APPROACHING GOD PRELUDE For the Beauty of the Earth KEVIN MCCHESNEY CALL TO WORSHIP FROM 1 JOHN 3 Leader: See what love the Father has given us, that we should be called children of God; and that is what we are! People: This is God s commandment, that we should believe in the name of his Son Jesus Christ and love one another, just as he has commanded us. Leader: All who obey his commandments abide in him, and he abides in them. And by this we know that he abides in us, by the Spirit that he has given us. People: By the grace and guidance of the Spirit gifted to us, and in light of the truth of God s love, let us give thanks to and worship God with our songs and with our love for one another! HYMN #275 God of Our Life SANDON CALL TO CONFESSION SILENT CONFESSION AFFIRMATION OF FAITH Leader: People: ALL: FROM THE CONFESSION OF BELHAR Friends, let us confess our faith! God has entrusted the church with the message of reconciliation in and through Jesus Christ. The church is called blessed because it is a peacemaker, and because we witness both by word and by deed to the new heaven and the new earth in which righteousness dwells. God wishes to bring about justice and true peace among people, and calls the church to participate in this. God teaches us to do what is good and to seek the right, so that justice may roll down like waters, and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream. THANKS BE TO GOD! HYMN OF ASSURANCE #579 Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, World without end. Amen, Amen. SENT OUT AS GOD S PEOPLE LITANY FOR PASTORAL TRANSITION Leader: For everything there is a season. A time for reflection and a time for action; a time for cheers and a time for tears; a time for saying hello and a time for saying goodbye. Over the past five years Faith Presbyterian Church has grown in wisdom and in strength, guided by the caring and insight of our pastor, Tim Dooner. Leader: With growth comes change. During his time with us, Tim has baptized new life among us; joined couples together in the sight of God, family and friends; welcomed new members; presided over the Lord s table time and again; led us in self-examination and decision-making; and helped us bid farewell to those moving on. Now it is time for us to say goodbye to Tim as his ministry takes on new shape and new place.
3 F AITH LIFE S UNDAY, NOVEMBER 13, 2016 Welcome to worship at Faith Presbyterian Church. We re blessed by the presence of each person here today. We hope you ll join us following worship in Fellowship Hall for a Potluck Luncheon, beverages, snacks, and fellowship. TODAY! TODAY! Pledge Dedication Youth Groups Presentation on Aging Watch for NEW, IMPORTANT and UPDATED announcements each week. W ORSHIP HANGING OF THE GREENS SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 20 11:30 AM IN THE SANCTUARY All are invited to join in decorating the sanctuary and church building for the Advent season! The decorations help us mark this special time of year when we excitedly prepare for the arrival of the Christ child. Their presence is an indication that the four weeks of Advent are special, and different from other times of the year. Their colors and symbols also contain meanings that are relevant to the season. Many of our decorations incorporate the color gold. Gold symbolizes what is precious and valuable, and so symbolizes majesty, joy, and celebration. Because of its brightness metallic gold also symbolizes the presence of God. Our decorations also include a Chrismon tree. The word Chrismon is a combination of the words Christ and monogram. The word Chrismon has been adopted to refer to special Christmas tree ornaments that have been developed to display symbols of Christ. The designs of the Chrismons have over the years been extended to represent symbols of Christianity. All the ornaments are done in white and gold. Start your Advent preparation a little early by helping with this joyous and meaningful task! For questions or to let us know you'll be attending, please contact a member of the worship committee, or Lisa Heineman. STEWARDSHIP SUNDAY S TEWARDSHIP Today we celebrate God s blessings through our pledge dedication. Your pledges allow us to plan for the many ministries of Faith Presbyterian Church. These ministries encompass programs within our walls, in our neighborhood and across the globe. Please place your pledge card in the offering plate. If needed, you can find one located in your pew. D EACONS C OLLEGE S TUDENT GOODIE BOXES The Faith Deacons ask for your help again this year to bring Good Tidings and Cheer to our college students.
