5 Special Notices: Mount Royal does not currently have any Presbytery reps and is looking for 2 volunteers to fill this requirement. If you are interested or have questions please contact Jim Morris at The Art Club will begin meeting on Tuesday, Sept 26 th at 1pm. Each artist works on their individual pieces (mostly watercolours and oils) while getting encouragement and support from others. All welcome. The Writer s Circle will begin meeting on Monday, Sept 25 at 10amnoon. Each writer is welcome to share pieces they have written. The Sept/Oct issue of the Upper Room is now available at the back of the sanctuary. Please consider making a small donation to help pay for the subscription. There is a coin receptacle underneath the books. The Fall Rummage sale is coming up on Friday, October 13 th and Saturday, October 14 th. Please put aside your gently used treasures for this fundraiser for the church. The items may be delivered to the church the week before or call the office to have large items picked up. The Memorial Hymn Sing is coming up on Sunday, October 22. The notice has been sent out by and forms may also be collected at the back of the church. There will be an Eats and Treats pot-luck lunch after the service. There will be a workshop entitled, "The End", offered on Wednesday, Sept 27 th at 1:30pm at the church. It will touch on topics related to end of life planning. The Bremner Unit UCW will be hosting a Halloween Coffee and Muffin Party on Tuesday, October 31 from 9-11am. Free will offering. The Craft Group will be selling crafts during the party. The UCW continues to collect: Postage stamps for Oxfam Canada. The border of the stamps should be trimmed to ¼. eye glasses for distribution to Third world countries. Milk bags for sleeping mats for Haiti (Hillcrest School). Plastic bread bag closure tabs Aluminum pop can closure tabs You may drop any of these items in the containers at the entrance of the Bessborough door. Thank you for helping with these endeavours. For your information, these items can be dropped off at a collection box at the YMCA. Community Notices: International Pot-Luck: Good Food, Good Fellowship, and Lots of Fun! A Pot-Luck meal will be held on Sunday, September 24 th, at St. George s Anglican Church, 51 Church St. The doors will open at 5:30 and the meal will begin at 6:00 pm. Participants are asked to bring a dish native to their country of origin and, if possible, a non-perishable item for our local community. All welcome! Come and bring a friend! Hillsborough UC: Casserole Fundraiser - Ready-To-Bake Casseroles to cook immediately or freeze! 4 featured recipes all made with Lean Ground Beef: Shepherd s Pie, Cheeseburger Casserole, Meatballs, and Hamburg & Tomato Dish. A Hundred Thousand Welcomes, the Caledonian Orchestra of Nova Scotia will be performing at St. Paul's UC, 404 Cleveland Ave. Riverview on Sunday, September 24, at 2:30pm. This group will bring the traditional sounds of "Old Scotland" with lively marches, strathspeys, jigs, reels, laments and waltzes. Tickets $15 at the door. Children with parents are free. 7 CHURCH COUNCIL Highlights - CORRESPONDENCE A letter from the Scouting groups who meet in the church asking that we sign the charter form to confirm our continued support, invited a member of council to join their group committee, and offered to help with any projects in the church such as the pancake breakfast. A thank you card was received from Ben McMichael for our donation of grocery cards to the Food Centre. MOUNT ROYAL CHURCH FINANCES there has been an increase in envelope and other givings over the past few months. The areas of increase were due to the Roast Beef Dinner, Emily Logan s concert, the UCW s contributions, church rentals and loose offerings. The current year deficit to the end of August in 2016 was ($18,532) while the YTD deficit to the end of August this year is ($12,026). PROPERTY MAINTENANCE replaced some exterior light bulbs and put a removable ramp in. It was noted that the ramp should be made more stable and have some grip tape. CHIGNECTO PRESBYTERY There are currently no Presbytery reps from our congregation. Two are needed. PASTORAL CARE They are drafting a code of conduct for elderly persons. The mandate of the committee was discussed briefly. In 2016 the roles and responsibilities of the Pastoral Care Committee were amended and the welcoming and transportation parts were removed. They are very important but not considered part of Pastoral Care. There may be some gaps in keeping in touch with all. Would like to have a welcome themed pot-luck lunch to get to know new members. It was mentioned that there is an Eats and Treats pot-luck planned for October 22 after church. CHRISTIAN DEVELOPMENT/BLAST The BLAST opening and the Blessing of the Backpacks were a success with 16 children registering. Confirmation classes are planned for after Christmas. It was suggested that more programs for adults should be offered. UCW/CRAFT GROUP the UCW have catered many funerals this summer. The Bremner Unit is planning a coffee and muffin party for Oct 31 and the Craft Group will have crafts and baked goods for sale at this event. The Craft Group is going to purchase 3 microphones for the church. MINISTRY & PERSONNEL 2 new members are needed for the M&P committee. She asked that council appoint 2 members to assist with the work of the committee. WORSHIP COMMITTEE It was noted that Valerie Tremble provided the music in August when France was on vacation. Also, the food bank is in need of non-perishable food items. TRUSTEES as of Sept 30 Sobeys has changed their policy of allowing the bulk purchase of grocery cards with a Credit card. This will impact our ability to continue this program. Secondly, will the point of sale terminal be necessary if we discontinue the grocery cards?

8 No Scents make good sense. If you are aware of a member of the church who is in hospital and would like a clergy visit, please contact the office at Please remember to continue to bring non-perishable food items for the food bank the second week of each month. Thank you. If you have and would like to receive notices regarding cancellations and other items of interest, please put your name and address on a piece of paper in the collection plate. Thank you. We now have a transport wheelchair, rollator and walker in the church. These will be stored at the back of the sanctuary and are there should the need arise for anyone experiencing mobility issues during services or activities at the church. Please be advised that we now have the technology to permit the screen operators to record and post on the church website, any regular or special services held in the sanctuary. If anyone would like have a copy of an upcoming service on a disk, they should contact the office. The call for 2019 Bulletin Photos is now on. Please consider submitting them. If you are interested, please help yourself to the yellow sheet on the bulletin board with more info.
