Our Rector s Ramblings! Dear friends, brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus Thank you for the warmth of your welcome to Gill and myself. I know that my attendance at All Saints and my call from within the congregation is out of the ordinary, yet I believe with all my heart that God has called me to be the Parish Priest here. I would like to thank Bishop Philip, Acting Archdeacon Fr Timothy Lipscomb, Area Dean Rev Alistair McHaffie and Fr Nicholas for all their hard work at the Licensing service. I am appointed as Associate Minister / Assistant Priest, but I am sure that most people will call me Rector. Fr. Nicholas at Tarleton remains our Priest in Charge and he and I have known each other for many years. Indeed we were Curates in neighbouring Parishes in Darwen and Ewood. We are looking forward to working with you to further the Kingdom of God here in Hesketh Bank. It was good to see so many guest clergy, readers, congregation, friends and family at Church on the 17thJanuary. Of course, most of the hard work happened behind the scenes; the preparation of the service by Tim, John and Mary, the setting up of a legendary spread for the feast after the service by too many people to mention by name and the preparation of the Church itself. It will be a good thing for the Parish to have the ministry formalised, but it is good to stand with Lesley and Rev Brian in this work and an especial word of thanks go the them and the musicians for all their hard work. As an ex-teacher it was a joy to hear the children singing during Holy Communion. Thank you to all concerned. Gill and I live in Banks, we did try to find a home in Hesketh Bank, but we couldn t manage it so we moved slightly further out. We are less than 5 miles away and it takes us about 8 minutes to get to Church and the Village. If you need help please give me a call on If we are not in please leave a message on the call-minder. We do sometimes screen the calls, so please don t be put off, tell us who you are and we will get back to you as soon as possible. So, what do I stand for in Parish ministry? The short answer is The Kingdom of God. The song says Seek ye first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added unto you and John 3:16-17 says For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. 4

My dearest wish is to see souls saved, then to see new Christians go on to a full mature discipleship. I adore worshipping God more than anything (even more so than seeing Preston winning). I love to connect with those who have kept the Gospel light alive for many years and have been faithful. You will find me approachable and amenable so, if you have a question or you feel the need to ask for clarification on a particular matter, please feel free to have a chat. I would far rather do it this way than for people to keep things stewing. Gill is a retired Music teacher, having taught the Clarinet, Flute, Saxophone and keyboard / piano in several schools over the years. Gill supports Liverpool and looks after me a full time job I can assure you. Gill keeps her hand in by playing the flute in the side chapel when the choir and organists come up for Holy Communion. I am a retired RE teacher, having served for 31 years in schools in Liverpool, Birkenhead and Blackburn. I have a special place in my heart for the young and their needs, but families and older friends will not be neglected. I look forward to getting to know you better and working with you to see Jesus grow the Church in number and in love. I am from Chorley originally being born in Eaves Lane Maternity Hospital. It used to be the Workhouse. Make of that what you will!! I follow Preston North End and love Cricket. I used to open the bowling for my University Team. Our main hobby is family history. We are building our family tree and indeed some of the branches of the tree are Hesketh Bank, Banks, Tarleton, Churchtown, Bretherton, Mawdesley and Croston people. I have a wide experience of different styles of worship, both traditional and modern. I believe that we have a good mix of services here, but don t be alarmed if an experiment appears from time to time. We have one daughter Jenny who sings in the choir. She is also an RE teacher. It is a joy to us to be able to worship together. God bless you and keep you. Yours in Jesus Rev Dave x x x 5

Mothers Union Hello everyone, We went to the Rufford Arms last month where we all enjoyed excellent food and wonderful fellowship, and our new Rector the Rev. David Dickinson and his wife Gill and daughter Jenny joined us. We welcome Rev. David and his wife Gill to our parish and ask for Gods blessing upon them, and we look forward to working with them in the future. Our meeting this month is on the 16 th and Marion Clarkson will be demonstrating "Dutch and Flemish Flower Painting". We look forward to seeing this work of art. During lent we will be collecting items for the "Back Pack" project which is associated with "Mary's Meals" which we heard about in November through out speaker Jim Watt. This will be a joint venture with the school and we will be giving out leaflets soon which will explain what we need to collect. We pray for the work of the Mothers Union throughout the world and ask God to guide us in all that we do. And as we reach out to those in need may they see the love of Jesus in us. God Bless you all from Mary and Sue Ephesians 2 : 10 We are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them. Prayer, Lord, we can't thank You enough for Your passionate love for us. Help us to see that You bring us together in this beautiful body of believers known as Your church. 7 Determined Disciples If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. John 8 : 31 A disciple in Jesus' time was someone who followed a teacher or philosopher. A disciple was both a learner and a follower - believing the teachers message and then putting it into practice. Jesus gave the word disciple added meaning, however, because His disciples also went out to tell others about Him. A disciple of Jesus, therefore, is someone who has committed his or her life to Jesus, and seeks each day to learn, to follow, and to share Him with others. Does this describe you? No, the first disciples weren't perfect, and neither are we. Like them, we need to learn more and follow more, and share more. But all of us who belong to Christ are called to be disciples. Unlike the original disciples, we can't physically spend time with Jesus, but we can learn from Him by reading His word. We can follow Him by obeying His will. And we can share Him with a world that desperately needs to be saved. Please join us 7 For Children & All. The second Monday of the month 4:00pm until 6:00pm Children must be accompanied by an adult. Craft, Stories, Fun & Food

Thoughts of the Month For surely I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord plans for your welfare and not for harm, to give you a future with hope. Jeremiah 29:11 Consider... What are your hopes for today? Are they for confidence or protection or rest or safety? For success or wisdom or insight or care? Name your hopes. Who or what are you hoping in today? Have you placed your hopes in a person who is able to deliver them? Or has someone set their hopes on you? What would it mean to put your hope in the devine - what strength or help might you be calling on to do so? However good or challenging the situation in your own life today, can you believe the devine has a grand plan for you? Can you believe that plan is precisely about your welfare and your future? If you realy believed this, what effect might it have on your attitude to the day? Perhaps you have hoped and been disappointed. Can you ask for the hope that you need? "For He is coming, for He is coming to judge the earth, He shall judge the world with righteousness, and the peoples with His truth." Psalm 96:13 Gracious Father, in darkness and light, In trouble and in joy, Help us to trust your love, To serve your purpose, And to praise your name; Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. 8

Thoughts of the Month WHEN WILL, JESUS RETURN? ARE YOU READY? I stood in the supermarket carpark and stood at length with a Christian friend about a number of great concerns in our country and across the world. We touched on the state of the church, the goverment and the economy, the likelihood of war, the problems of immigration, the increasing levels of hate and lawlessness, we shared the same views and same anxieties and frustration. One thing is clear: it is only likely to become worse. Is there a solution? Do we have any hope? For Christians the answer is YES! When will this be? WHEN OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST RETURNS! None of us knows when this will be. Many individuals and sects have come up with formulas over the centuries and all have been wrong. The Bible (Matthew 24:36) makes it clear that it will be the decision of the Lord, God the Father; He alone will determine the exact moment when His Son, Christ the Messiah, returns in glory that great, but also terrible "Day of the Lord". why terrible for many? Because a huge number are sleepwalking towards eternal death. The message in God's Word is crystal clear: We must all be READY for Jesus' Second Coming, and that means having committed our life to Him. He is "the way the truth and the life", and the only way to the Father. What does it mean to be committed to Jesus? We must have faith in Him that he is God's beloved Son, and died upon the cross to redeem us; His Precious Blood paid the price for our sins. When we truly repent of all we have done wrong, we are forgiven. He rose from the dead and His promise is that we too will live eternally with Him. but our faith must be living and active it is far more than ticking the boxes and saying "yes" to a lot of beliefs. We are called to love God; we cannot love anyone if we do not know them. And so our aim should be spend as much time as possible in prayer and study of our bibles, in order to grow in the knowledge and love of our Lord and also of course, each other. Our lives will then reflect our Lord Jesus, as we live a life of love in the spirit and serve Him. We will bear the the Fruit of the Spirit. Loving God means keeping His commandments. (John 14:21) We must be ready before Jesus' return; are You? 9
