1 Dear Family of God of Philadelphia, The Proclaimer Philadelphia Baptist Church 5709 Philadelphia Church Road, Marshville, NC 28103; April 2017 From the Pastor s Desk: Maybe you have seen the new Direct Auto Commercial, where a man is stuck at a traffic light behind a group of bikers. The light turns green and the bikers aren t moving. The man decides to tap his horn, but the horn gets stuck. The biker in front of him is about 6 4 and strong. The biker turns to look at the man who now realizes that he has made a mistake and is about to die. Suddenly, the biker gets a smile on his face, and gives the man a thumbs up. The camera pans to the back of the bike. There is a sticker located on the bike that reads: Honk if you love bikers. Then, there is a voice over which says, Now, that s a pleasant surprise. That is what Easter is all about. On Friday, all hope was lost. The disciples were scattered. The Messiah was buried in a tomb. Judas had committed suicide. And Satan was celebrating. On Saturday, everyone in Jerusalem took a deep breath and tried to come to grips with what had happened. The false witnesses had to come to grips with the fact that they had helped to put an innocent man to death. The Pharisees now realized that they had sold their souls to the Roman government. The High Priest could not stop staring at the ear of his servant. The disciples were confused and ashamed. And Mary was grieving. Come Sunday morning, there was just one more thing to do; go and properly take care of the body of Jesus. As the ladies made their way to the tomb, they began to discuss the practicality of what they were about to do. How can we move the stone away? they wondered. But then. they find an empty tomb. Now, that is a pleasant surprise! Because of that surprise, we have hope. Because of that surprise, our sin can be forgiven. Because of that surprise, everything changed. I look forward to celebrating this great truth with you this Easter. May our Father bless you today. It a great honor to serve our Lord with you. RCA

Donations accepted. COMING SOON: Lifetouch Online Directory! GOLDEN AGE Our March meeting was quite green! We had a great time learning about St. Patrick. He wasn't from Ireland, he was a slave, used in the fields to herd sheep, he spent most of his life converting pagans to Christianity and used the shamrock to teach about the trinity. We learned it's more than just a day to wear green. We had a great meal of potato soup, vegetable soup, green cupcakes and homemade Irish soda bread. We were all left with a few Irish blessings and everyone took turns sharing what their own blessings were. It was a very special time. April is going to be a great time as well! With our mild winter and warmer days leading up to spring, the strawberries are ready! On Tuesday, April 11 th we will take a trip to McLeod Farms in McBee, SC. We will be leaving from the church on the bus at 11:00 AM, you can follow us or meet us there at 11:30 AM. Lunch will be provided at Big Meats, located next door to McLeod's. We won't be picking the strawberries, but they will be available to purchase. If you haven't joined us in a while, please come! Mark your calendars for Tuesday, April 11th. Easter Sunday is the Sunday after our trip. It's a great day anyway, and now you can add your favorite strawberry dessert to the menu! As always, a huge thank you to Teresa and Pam! Love you all! 3 Strawberries and Cream Cake (2006 STRAWBERRY RECIPE CONTEST WINNER Second Place Winner Roberta Howle) 2 ¾ cups cake flour 2 ½ teaspoons baking powder 2 cups sugar 1 box (4 oz.) strawberry flavored Jell-O 1 cup butter, softened 4 eggs 1 teaspoon vanilla ½ cup pureed McLeod Farms strawberries 1 ½ cups whipping cream (heavy) 2 tablespoons sugar ½ teaspoon vanilla 1 ½ cups sliced McLeod Farms strawberries 1 ½ cups quartered McLeod Farms strawberries 1 cup milk Heat oven 350 degrees. Grease and flour 3 pans. Mix cake flour and baking powder; set aside. Beat 2 cups sugar, the Jell-O (dry) and butter on medium for 3 minutes. Beat in eggs, one at a time. Beat flour mixture and milk alternately into butter mixture. Beat in 1 teaspoon vanilla and the pureed strawberries. Pour into pans. Bake for 30 minutes. Cool 10 minutes; remove from pans to wire rack. Cool completely. Beat whipping cream, 3 tablespoons sugar and ½ teaspoon vanilla in chilled bowl on high until stiff. Place one layer on cake plate, spread with ¾ cup whipped cream; top with ¾ cup sliced strawberries. Repeat with second layer. Add third later. Frost sides of cake with cream cheese frosting. Spread remaining whipped cream on top of cake. Top with quartered strawberries. Store covered in refrigerator. Cream Cheese Frosting ½ cup butter, softened 8 oz. cream cheese, softened 4 cups powdered sugar 2 teaspoons vanilla Beat butter and cream cheese on low speed until blended.
