First Reading: Revelations 7:2-4, 9-14 John recounts for us the details of his vision. An angel bearing the seal of the living God demands that the land and sea not be destroyed; huge crowds stand before the throne of the Lamb crying out that salvation comes from God; angels gathered round and praised God; an elder questions John and explains that those dressed in white are the ones who have survived the great period of trial. Second Reading: 1 John 3:1-3 Once again John speaks to us of love. He points out to us the great love that the Father has for us by allowing us to be called children of God. John explains that the world doesn't recognize us because it never recognized Jesus. Our future will be revealed to us and in that light we shall see him as he is. Gospel: Matthew 5:1-12a When Jesus saw the crowds of people he went up to the mountainside gathered his disciples around him and began to teach them. These families are in addition to the families we support on our regular Food Pantry Day, but like them, they are screened to be sure that those most in need receive these gifts. To help one family at Thanksgiving or one family at Christmas, we ask for the following: 2 cans of corn oz 1 lg. box or bag muf in biscuit mix 2 cans green beans oz 1 large can pumpkin pie mix 1 can sweet potatoes 40 oz 1 can evaporated milk 1 box instant mashed potatoes 1 package pie crust 1 box or bag of stuf ing 2 cans fruit 2 cans or jars or pkgs. of gravy mix 2 cans cranberry sauce 1 large box JELLO 1 box cake mix and 1 can cake icing *Gift Certi icates to purchase Turkey or Ham and Fresh Produce * Please place food for Food Pantry Day and food for the Holiday Food Project in the Food For the Poor Box located in the back of church beginning the weekend of October 25/26 and ending Tuesday, November 17. 7 The Dark Side of Life has been ictionalized in the character of Darth Vader in the Star Wars Trilogy. For a truer and unsentimental experience of the battle that we all wage with evil or sin or the devil read Genesis 3. Here we experience real evil or the absence of good as he begins his mission on earth. It is Satan..a force that cannot be killed, that is envious of Man, and always smarter. Worse of all it must be battled every day from the personal level to the grand scale of human existence. There is no break in the action! We know that God rules over evil and has allowed evil to exist in the world. At the same time He has given us the tools to overcome evil by his way, his truth, and in his life if we choose to let it work in our lives. This week we look at the way the devil works within us to twist our desire to be like God. Or how the devil uses our own impulses and converts them into arrogance and pride that leads us to seek the fruit of the Tree of Knowledge that the evil one says will make us like God, and give us the knowledge of good and evil. Men join us for a trip to the Dark Side so we can better know what we are up against and protect our families.
