The items we currently need are: dried or canned beans (black, lentil, red), canned: fruit, meat (tuna, chicken, ham, salmon, etc), cereal hot/cold, corn flour (Masa), rice, peanut butter, jelly, shelf stable milk, canned evaporated milk, pasta. The Sacrament of Confirmation for Adults: Those Catholic adults wishing to be confirmed please contact the CCD Office at to register as soon as possible. There will be five mandatory confirmation classes in April/May to prepare for the sacrament. Dates of those classes are Mondays, April 29 th, May 6 th, 13th, 20th, and 27th, 2019 from 7:00 to 8:30 pm in the school library. Fr. William Schierer will teach the classes. Prolife Prayer Volunteers Needed to help save lives of both the mother and child: In Virginia alone, over 15,000 children's lives were reportedly snuffed out in the womb (source: VA Dept of Health for 2017). Can you help? Beginning March 6 thru April 14, you are invited to put your faith into action and join with other Christians for 40 Days for Life 40 days of prayer and fasting for an end to abortion. You re also invited to stand and peacefully pray from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm during the 40-day vigil in the public right-of-way outside Falls Church Healthcare at 900 S. Washington Street, Falls Church. FOR HIS DEATH THEY THIRST AND CRY. One of my favorite hymns for Passiontide (the last two weeks of Lent) is My Song is Love Unknown, which appears in our hymnal (#196, text by Samuel Crossman). Most relevant to today, Palm Sunday, is the third stanza: Sometimes they strew his way, / And his sweet praises sing, / Resounding all the day / Hosannas to their King. Then Crucify is all their breath, / And for his death they thirst and cry. Today s liturgy began with the acclamation Hosanna Filio David Hosanna to the Son of David! And then we sang in the opening hymn, All glory, laud, and honor / To thee, Redeemer, King! Yet moments later, during the solemn reading of St. Luke s passion narrative, we cried out, Crucify him! This practice of taking the angry crowd s words on ourselves is a reminder of how often we pay lip service to God, saying the right words at all the right time at Mass, and yet fail to follow through when the pressure of culture, friends, and selfishness make it difficult. The Holy Week liturgies, from today through Easter, are a beautiful antidote to this problem. In the course of the week, if we follow them carefully, they take us from sin to repentance, from death to life, from spiritual nomads to members of a heavenly kingdom.
