Gospel: Mark 4: During a bad storm, Jesus ordered the wind and sea to be still, and his disciples were quite amazed at his power. The image was exposed at the Immaculate Conception Basilica of D.C., Franciscan Monastery and churches around the area. Many who touch the Tilma of Our Blessed Mother are able to hear the heartbeat of Our Blessed Mother and the heartbeat of baby Jesus. There have been instances when Our Blessed Mother wept tears of oil and her hands felt warm to the touch. Still others have smelled the heavenly scent of roses. Bereavement Group - June 28th The Blessed Virgin Mary herself revealed to St. Bridget that while on earth there was not an hour in which grief did not pierce her soul." (St. Alphonsus Liguouri) St. Timothy's Bereavement Group will be meeting once more on Sunday, June 28th from 3-5 pm in the Fr. McGivney Room. Our Holy Mother Mary knows the tremendous pain of loss, but is so ready to offer us the treasured gift of Hope in our Faith. Our group is dedicated to Our Lady of Sorrows and Our Lady of Hope. As always all adult parishioners who have been experiencing the sadness found with the loss of a loved one are gently encouraged to attend these prayer-filled support sessions. We are here to show you that you do not need to walk this path alone. Fr. Stefan is our spiritual advisor for the group and Colleen Dundon, R.N. is the facilitator. (703) Mr. Joseph McLaughlin, Principal DATE: July 6 & Seeing a deeper meaning in Scripture It s true what they say: Ignorance of Scripture is ignorance of Christ (see CCC 133). Maybe you ve had the desire to get to know Jesus better by reading the Bible but you ve been deterred by various difficulties. Is reading the Bible sometimes dry or burdensome? Do you find you don t get a lot out of it? This talk will provide a way to engage Scripture at a deeper and more personal level by looking for the spiritual senses of the inspired Word of God. it will also provide much fuel for meditation with Scripture, showing how the New Testament is hidden in the Old and the Old fulfilled in the New. DATE: July 13 & Praying with Sacred Scripture Is it tough to commit to prayer or to know what to do or to say to God? One helpful and time-tested practice is Lectio Divina, or Sacred Reading. It is an ancient practice in the Christian tradition of praying with Scripture. The union that Jesus desires with each of us does not merely involve an intellectual knowledge of the Scriptures, but a dialogue with Him that reaches the deepest parts of our being. DATE: July 20 & Learning to see how God is at work in our daily lives We might feel God s presence strongly in Church or in prayer, but then experience frustration because of how unaware of Him we are the rest of the time. Maybe we make all sorts of resolutions to God in prayer, but then we are forgetful of Him and we go back to living the way we always do. God, humble as He is, often works in our lives in hidden ways. It is much easier to be aware of His abiding presence when we are aware of His manifold gifts and the many ways He is at work in us. When we are aware of God s grace and we freely cooperate with it, our lives will be transformed. 8
