Give us this day our daily bread. Ad forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass agaist us. Ad lead us ot ito temptatio, but deliver us from evil. For thie is the kigdom, ad the power, ad the glory, forever. Ame. February

2 Let 2018 The Seaso of Let Retired Bishop of Lodo Richard Chartres has writte that, Let is the sprigtime of the Church year, a period of preparatio for Easter. God s gift to us i the resurrectio of Jesus Christ ad the sedig of the Spirit is life i all its fulless, but we kow that there remais a udertow i daily life that carries us away ito egativity ad forgetfuless. Our lives become old agai. We eed a aual review. Aother writer refers to Let as a time for Sprigcleaig. It is a time to sweep away the cobwebs ad remove the clutter that we have accumulated i life. Let offers us this time to review ad reew. Based o the forty days that Jesus spet i prayer ad preparatio i the wilderess, Christias joi Jesus o retreat. We eter a special seaso of reflectio, prayer, ad spiritual redirectio. We spiritually make a pilgrimage to the cross with Jesus, i order that we might come to experiece his love more fully. Let gives us the opportuity to practice the disciplies of faith that brig us closer to God: worship, prayer, fastig, special acts of givig, ad service. At Caterbury, our Lete jourey together will focus o prayer. The sermo series will look at the Lord s Prayer, which is a model for all of our prayer. There are studies o prayer available for small groups ad Suday School classes ad special worship services plaed throughout the seaso. It is my prayer that as a cogregatio, we will coveat together a specific way to make this a time of spiritual growth for our etire cogregatio. You will fid iformatio o our Lete Coveat ad special services ad opportuities i the followig pages. Dr. Adrew Wolfe Iterim Seior Pastor The Caterbury Lete Coveat Let is a seaso that ivites us to give icreased attetio to those ways i which we grow i the grace ad kowledge of God. We ivite ad challege you to eter ito The Caterbury Lete Coveat, which ceters o the classic spiritual disciplies of Christia faith: 1 Pray daily. 3 Atted worship weekly ad receive Holy Commuio frequetly. 2 Read the scriptures daily, usig the provided guide. 4 Egage i acts of service. (ex.: assist a elderly eighbor, sed otes of ecouragemet, etc.) 2 CANTERBURIAN

3 Let 2018 Lete Sermo Series: The Lord s Prayer Rowa Williams, the Archbishop of Caterbury, has writte that if someoe said, Give me a summary of the Christia faith o the back of a evelope, the best thig to do would be to write the Lord s Prayer. Bishop Will Willimo writes, Who is a Christia? The best aswer you ca give is, A Christia is oe other tha someoe who has leared to pray the Lord s Prayer. Of course, what they are referrig to is more tha just sayig the words. To truly pray is to lear to bed our lives to God, ad allow God to shape us. For this reaso, Rowa wars us that the Lord s Prayer is ot a easy prayer. He writes, It is ot a prayer that preteds; it is a prayer that requires our lives to chage. It requires that we become differet sorts of people, but it ackowledges that will oly happe whe we lear how to deped freely ad lovigly o the God who s made himself Our Father. Because of this the Lord s Prayer is a radical prayer. It challeges our assumptios about who we are, who God is, ad what the world is like. What is beig prayed for is a radical chage i us ad for our world. We are prayig for God s kigdom to come ad God s will to be doe i a world that is more ofte at odds with God s will. The Lord s Prayer also serves as a model, or a template, for all prayer. Whe you pray, pray like this, Jesus said. Christia prayer is always addressed to The Father. It s always prayed from where Jesus stads. All prayer ackowledges our frailty, our eeds, ad our depedecy o God. All prayer makes us aware of the ecessity of forgiveess. Durig Let, we joi the disciples i askig Jesus, Lord, teach us to pray. Joi us each Suday morig throughout Let as we more deeply explore the Lord s Prayer by separately examiig each part. If you re uable to joi us i perso, live stream of worship services ad audio of all sermos are available at www. caterburyumc.org/livestream or through the Caterbury app. LENTEN SERMON SERIES: THE LORD S PRAYER Suday, February 18 Teach Us To Pray Suday, February 25 Our Father Suday, March 4 Hallowed Be Your Name Suday, March 11 Give Us Our Daily Bread Suday, March 18 Forgive Us Our Trespasses Suday, March 25: Palm Suday Deliver Us From Evil Suday, April 1: Easter Suday Yours Is The Kigdom, Power, ad Glory Forever ASH WEDNESDAY WORSHIP SERVICES WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 14 Noo i the Chapel 6:00 p.m. i the Sactuary The seaso of Let is marked with a special service makig use of ashes, the Biblical sig of repetace.
