3 June 30, 2016 Message from the Vicar Dearly Beloved in Christ, Greetings. It is indeed a joy to pen my first letter in the pages of the Thane Mar Thoma Parish Messenger. The wonderful leadership of our beloved Jolly Thomas Achen and Leelamma Kochamma boosted the growth of our parish and the building up of faith of our members in the last four years and the parish will ever be grateful to Jolly Achen and family for the same. Praise God for all the blessings thus far in our ministry in Thane. The love, care, support of each one of you has enriched our life and ministry in Thane. Though we accept our limitations we believe that God wanted us to be here in this place in this time since He has a special purpose about us and we hope and pray that it will also be a blessing to all the members in this parish. Christ calls us to be disciples who are willing to make disciples in this world that we are. Our world represents the living space that we occupy and the people who we come in contact with. People of all age, occupation and race who have accepted Christ as their Saviour have the divine call to share this love of Christ with others. For us this call is to be implemented here in Thane in all possible manner. We need to take stock of how faithful we have been to this call and how much more better we can do it in the coming days. The activities of our welfare society will surely be the best platform for us to reach out in this community. The Good shepherd Mar Thoma School is a great initiative of our Mar Thoma Educational & Welfare Society to illuminate the lives of children in our locality.

4 The Palliative Care programme under the initiative of the Senior Youth Forum (SYF) is another unique platform for us to reach out the people in pain and despair and comfort them in the love of Jesus and strengthen the family to tide over the crisis. Our parish has a great blessing of human resource, rich in experience and leadership in various fields, which if harnessed together can enable us to achieve greater heights in the growth of our projects. The question remains how each one of us can be a part of such programmes which is an opportunity for us to be a part of the mission that Christ has given to all of us. It is not if but how. The Choristers evening arranged on the 3rd of July is also a unique programme in the whole of the Mar Thoma Church since it is also an opportunity for us to involve in a musical celebration with choirs of various denominations and cultures. Let us thank God for the blessings in the past two years and pray that this year too the programme will be a blessing to all. I hope and wish that all the members will support and encourage this programme by their presence and resources. The Vidhyadhaan project - sponsorship of educational kits through the Yuvajana Sakhyam of our parish received overwhelming support from our members and we were able to support 172 kids. A big thank you to all of you. The Yuvajana Sakhyam of our parish is also organising a camp Back to Basics for all our youth members with a desire for faith building and commitment of our youths in Christ. The parish has the responsibility to pray and support this initiative by making sure that all our children in this age group participate. May I also request well wishers to contribute generously for this need. The support of the parish in the Diocesan project - Streams of Living waters by collecting Rs. 124,500 for this need in a period of two weeks was a meaningful response to the great need of drought around us and let us thank God that 4

5 He gave us such an opportunity to be a part of the visionary response and leadership of our Diocesan Bishop Rt. Rev. Dr. Geevarghese Mar Theodosius Episcopa. In this quarter we will be having the Episcopal Visit of our Diocesan Bishop on the 11th September 2016 and since we also have our Onam Celebration we shall start the Holy Communion service at 8 am on that day. Martin Luther said, A religion that gives nothing, costs nothing, and suffers nothing, is worth nothing. Let us introspect if we practice a faith which is ready to bear the cost involved and make the appropriate sacrifices or do we desire a comfortable easy going faith. May God enable us to realise our roles as disciples of Christ and do things to our best possible way and not as mere spectators.
