2 FROM THE PRESBYTER'S DESK Greetings in the precious name of our Lord and Redeemer Jesus Christ. The measures of protection for Environment means the protection of Humanity. (Anonyms ) This month we are celebrating as Ecological Sunday. The Church of South India is the first Church to address the concern towards the environment and the role of Church in it. It was in the year 1992, that the Church formed a committee under the heading of Ecological Concern and proclaimed ecology as a part of our faith. The CSI constitution is the first to declare that Ecological protection is a part of our Church Mission. Also in 2009, the Church of South India is the first Church in India to receive an award in the field of Environment Protection by UN. This year the theme of Environment Day by UN is Connecting people to Nature. Our Church is also meditating on the theme related to this: Connecting to Nature. The main problem of today's world is that we are lot dependent on technology and development; the consequence is we are detaching ourselves from nature. As Christians, we believe and proclaim that God is our Creator and Creator of the Universe. Unfortunately, we forget that God has created us with a responsibility. In Genesis 2:15, narrates this concept in a beautiful way, The LORD God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it. The key words in this verse are 'Work' and 'Care'; it depicts that sustenance of nature is to be done by Human that is our responsibility. The reason for the ecological crisis and degradation are 1. Over-dependency on Technology: God created man to live in harmony with all His creations. To live in harmony is done by protecting and caring everything that man is surrounded with. Today people are overdependant on technology. Technology considers everything as machine, as it deals mainly with the machine. We think, we use machines to reduce our efforts and time but now it has come to such an extent that machines are draining up all our efficiency and thinking capability. As Albert Einstein said, I fear the day that technology will surpass our human interaction. The world will have a generation of idiots. Machines donot have a heart or mind to think, they are converting us into the same because of which we forget about the responsibility assigned to us by God; that is to care and work. The outcome is we start to exploit the surrounding and it will endanger our own existence. So this year our theme is to bring back ourselves to nature in short it is to reduce the use of technology and welcome back the life. 2. Capitalistic development Culture: The feature of the capitalistic culture is profit making only, irrespective of the means through markets. For markets, there is no view of humanity or compassion, as it is always wants to make the maximum profit, there is always a competition about who wins and losses. For their gain, the market, use the environment mercilessly. God had created this universe and saw everything was beautiful and in perfect harmony and he ensured that everything was enjoyed equally by all. Now-a-days this is only enjoyed by few people who are exploiting this earth. This is against our responsibility assigned, work and care. Our greed for profit is disfiguring the harmony of the creation. Mahatma Gandhi said, Earth provides enough to satisfy every man's needs, but not every man's greed. Bible also teaches the same that the earth and its resources should be enjoyed by all and not to be greedy and think of one's own gain. As Christians we consider the whole universe as the mirror of God's love. Let us join together and take an initiative to ensure our existence because without nature we cannot survive. So do not forget the responsibilities of work and care assigned to us by God. Come let us bow down in Worship, Let us kneel before the Lord our Maker - Psalm 95:6. May the Almighty Lord bless us all. Mrs. Mariyamma John (92), Mother of Mr. Samkutty John and Mr. Moni John, was called to eternity on 12th June, 2017 and the funeral was on 15th April at C.S.I. Christ Church, Kunnida. We offer our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families in this irreparable loss and pray that the Almighty Lord provide comfort to these families. ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING The Annual General Meeting of our Parish will be held on 6th August, 2017 (Sunday) immediately after the Holy Communion Service at the Trust Office at All Saints Church Compound, Khadki. Formal Notice will follow. Please uphold the AGM in your prayers. NATIONAL YOUTH CONFERENCE Our Diocese is planning to bring together the Youth residing outside Kerala. The Koinonia of Youths will be held at Kamshet Marthoma Center on 20th -22nd October, I request all the youth to attend the conference. Also uphold this venture in your prayers.
